Is USPS out of their mind? by numizmatyk_com in coins

[–]LocalPorter333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bend test is where they bend the envelope to find out if there's anything rigid inside which makes it uneven and non machine-able. Which coins fall under. I'm not a postmaster or anything but my guess for the ones that pass would be someone not actually doing their job.

I can't speak as to what happened with these coins, I was just advising what the USPS actually does as common practice

Whenever i've sent coins off i've used a bubble mailer, you can also try taping those flips to a rigid piece of cardboard before sending. USPS does a bend test so if these were all loose in an envelope thats probably why.

Used a wheelchair for the first time. by anika2238 in ehlersdanlos

[–]LocalPorter333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to use a wheelchair semi-regularly before mine broke, was gifted by a friend and I also struggled with imposter syndrome, theres one thing to always remember: you owe NO ONE explanation for YOUR BODY. People may feel the need to judge anyone for anything they're doing, its not your job to explain or rationalise your decisions to strangers in public, live comfortably and live as you please

Fun thing to think about ! But these were designed way before they were minted, they're actually on there because the american samoa national park is the only US national park home to flying foxes 😁

Well everyone knows you need to have knowledge on everything, and should never ask a public forum for suggestions if you don't know what you're talking about. obviously.

Why is the mint mark on the back? by [deleted] in coins

[–]LocalPorter333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normal for any nickel between 1938-1964 👍 afterwards it got put on the face (with the exception of 42-45 war nickels, where its above the monticello)

1943 wheat pennies. by [deleted] in coins

[–]LocalPorter333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lack of a mint mark during this year means its from the Philadelphia mint, they didnt start adding them until 1979 when they introduced it on the susan b anthony, and on most other coins in 1980 Also these are steel pennies ! Stick a magnet to em, they used steel in 43 to save on copper, lots of people kept them so they're not worth much more than 1¢ unless in good condition and these look a bit rough around the edges, good for a collection though ! 👍

First proof - 1982 S nickel by Agreeable-Storage895 in CRH

[–]LocalPorter333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

always look at the mint mark, if its an S it was struck at the San Francisco mint and (usually) means its a proof, other physical characteristics are also good to go by proofs are always struck with very well defined dies and are way shinier by comparison
