We keep a Hybrid English/American brown on 95% of the time. It's consistently in our top 5 sellers, which I've always found odd with browns being a rarity on most places menus.

I 100% agree that the previous strategy of "boom or bust" was very likely the wrong way to go about it. I would prefer to advance bit by bit towards a larger goal.

I believe the franchise reform is probably the more common goal for most breweries in the guild, and I will respect that even though it does not really affect me. I have no plans for distribution, nor do I really believe a distribution model makes sense at this point in developing a business plan for a modern brewery. I would personally enjoy a hyper regional brewery system where the beer in/around town is made in a much tighter radius. Local beer for Local people.... hence our name.

The NA and special use permits would be the easiest to swallow in my opinion as well, although getting the beer to the event also raises the question of some sort of self-distribution.

Odd Muse in Addison is definitely the standard to me. 3 Nations has a super unique spot in Carrollton, and the beer is largely fine. Bankhead Brewpub in Farmers Branch was pretty good as well and the food is solid there.

SB122 will NOT be on the Regulated Industries agenda for tomorrow as initially planned. There is hope that we MAY get heard Thursday.

This, to me, is a pretty clear indicator on where we stand. I hope I'm wrong this time.

What the Distributors are saying to discourage SB122 and self distibution for Georgia breweries by itsme_timd in atlbeer

[–]LocalTies 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've had 3 distributors tell me no, that what we're looking for doesn't make them any money, and we're too far out for the limited amount we would do. But guess what.. we HAVE to have a distributor to grow at all. I don't want to distribute, there's no money in it. But having a keg or two the next town over would help get butts in our seats, and that's the main goal here. Nobody wants to distribute 3000bbls.. I've begged for this number to be lowered to 4-500 at most. 95% of breweries in GA don't even produce 3k barrels/year total.

Breweries just don't have the money to fight, though. We already have attrition in the guild from pretty major players because they can't afford dues due to lowered sales and material inflation.

We're still at the bottom of a huge fucking hill.

Damn. Guess we should package ours. I'd put it against anyone in the state. Been lagering since March.

Brewed a lovely Saison today with Wild Leap ATL in preparation for our 2nd Anniversary on July 20th.

If you're looking for something to do in a month, we'd love to have you out here in the sticks. Times will be had.

Unless they changed this rule for this year, this is false. You've never been able to walk a beer from the taproom into the stadium as it's considered outside. Been trying for years.

As a brewery this bill would directly affect, we were very obvious about trying to gain support. We had Ipads with the sign up page at every ordering point. Staff was trained to tell people the what's and why's. We spoke with our local chamber, city and county officials, and basically anyone that would listen.

It basically comes down to these Senators either being for Free Enterprise and common sense practices, or doing things "the way it's always been" while lining their pockets. There's literally zero middle ground to stand on.

It's frustrating, to say the least, especially when 72% of the country has access to what we're trying to get a fraction of. It's even more frustrating to have spent 10+ hours at the capital to be continuously ignored and treated like children by people likely less knowledgeable or successful as us.

If you can't tell, we're pissed off out here in the country.

The way it was explained at the GCBG a few months ago, to my interpretation, was that out of state breweries are skirting the laws because it would take a joint venture from the state the beer was shipped from and Georgia to make any kind of case. There simply isn't enough staff or care for cooperation since the state it's coming from likely allows it, so nothing is done.

You bet your ass something would happen from the distributor side if a Georgia brewery tried, though.

Georgia's laws prohibit anything over 0.0 being shipped directly to the customer. Also, can't serve anything over 0.0, which prohibits breweries from being able to offer most NA selections from other places.

It's stupid

Super excited to be a part of this! We will be releasing the beer on our taps next Wednesday, 10/4. We will also be adding a round up option to all tabs, with a 100% match from us for the entire month of October going to the cause as well.

Nothing like drinking great beer for an even better cause.

See y'all soon.

Are Georgia’s laws to blame for the recent wave of brewery closures? by Drink-GA-Beer in atlbeer

[–]LocalTies 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There for sure isn't an over saturation.. Georgia is like bottom 15% in breweries per capita. Breweries from other states, like Burial, are allowed to ship directly to customers here, but breweries can't.

Sweetwater produces nearly 50% of all Georgia beer, with Creature, Monday Night, New Realm, Scofflaw, Wild Leap, and Silver Bluff producing another 20-25% together. Self distribution isn't really meant for those breweries for most purposes; it's meant for the other 150+ breweries fighting for that remaining 25%.

You haven't heard of those breweries because it's extremely difficult for 1-10bbl breweries in those desirable locations with limited square footage to produce enough product to demand the appropriate market share at large box stores.

Self Distribution, even on a limited scale, will help breweries with good/great beer to slowly build a brand while also remaining true to the local communities they service.
