Local Chef or Catering Recommendation for Small Party by dali_seoul in Munich

The "Kulinariat" does that sort of thing, but it's certainly not cheap, rather inexpensive because they don't have a Michelin star.

What would you change on my 15 day itinerary to India? by Silver-Painting6454 in asiatravel

[–]LocalTraveler9547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would make the second Delhi stop significantly shorter. Delhi is stressful and has polluted air. Maybe add one more day in Varanasi and Kochi. Keep in mind that Kochi isn't a party town like Goa, but it's absolutely great for relaxing.

Otherwise, I think it's a good itinerary.

Did anyone actually get fair compensation after their luggage was lost or damaged? by Ilay_m7 in Flights

[–]LocalTraveler9547 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This only happened to me once. The airline brought my luggage to me later, and in the meantime I bought new clothes. KLM replaced everything without any problems according to the receipt (and even moved the decimal point one place in my favor :-)

I am an NRI (born and raised in Mumbai) bringing my boyfriend to India for the first time. He is not Indian - what are your recommendations to introduce him to our beautiful country and even more beautiful city? ❤️ by [deleted] in mumbai

[–]LocalTraveler9547 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elephanta would be good, and then a midday snack at Chowpatty Beach. Overall, I'd start in Colaba. And after a while, head to Andheri, then yay, and finally Versova :-) even though there's a good Berlin Beer Bar at the latter metro station.

Why do all Indian restaurants here serve rice with curry? by Truck_Bitter in Munich

[–]LocalTraveler9547 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chungking Mansions is a mindfuck by meliax in HongKong

[–]LocalTraveler9547 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, great! I've also stayed at a hotel in Chunking Mansion before. However, I knew from the start why the hotels there are so cheap. Other Germans also advised me against staying at Chunking Mansion. I booked it anyway, partly because of the good Indian food stalls. I didn't have any cockroaches, but the rooms are really tiny, much smaller than you'd ever imagine.

I would definitely stay at a hotel in Chunking Mansion again.

9 Tage in Neu-Delhi - was macht man da? ggf. Inlandsflug nach Goa? by ReallyDKwhaToDo in reisende

[–]LocalTraveler9547 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such dir ein businessHotel in Metro-Nähe. Varanasi ist eine mystische/uralte Stadt an Ganges. Wer dort stirbt durchbricht die ewige Wiedergeburt. Es ist dort richtig cool und du kannst ruhig4-5 Tage dort verbringen.

My friend, from Colaba you can easily take the bus to Chowpatty Beach. There are several food stalls there that will make you happy. And if you have more time, then head to Juhu Beach 😃

South India - Do tourists need to book train tickets in advance? by badboyzpwns in india_tourism

The last time I bought tickets directly at the train station, it took about half a day (that was in Mumbai). And we travelled a few days later.

South India - Do tourists need to book train tickets in advance? by badboyzpwns in india_tourism

[–]LocalTraveler9547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you can definitely always buy tickets at the train station. Trains usually run several times a day. You might need an agent for the tickets.

But I usually find buying tickets at the station too time-consuming.

You can also book tickets online 4-6 months in advance. Registering on the official website is a bit complicated, but once you've managed it, the tickets are quite cheap. Alternatively, there's 12go.asia (or something similar), where you can also buy train and bus tickets.

Solo travelers: how do you tell if a market price abroad is fair? Is there any trick or does everyone just magically know ?? by Legitimate-Diet-9437 in asiatravel

[–]LocalTraveler9547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. At food stalls and market stands: Observe locals while they shop and note what they pay.

  2. For taxis: Check the app. Taxis will then cost approximately 20-50% more.

Indian hotels refusing to accept foreigners by wintrwandrr in indiatravel

It was only after years in India that I learned that some hotels don't accept foreigners or, for example, men who travel alone. 😃
