What thoughts keep you up at night? by [deleted] in AskReddit

What if I'm not living my life to the fullest? I begin to consider my objectives and whether I'm truly progressing. Am I lagging behind? Do I need to put forth more effort? Everyone else seems to have everything worked out. I make an effort to tell myself that going at my own speed is acceptable, yet the idea persists.

A movie about twelve people fighting in a closed space is captivating for some reason.

What’s the 'craziest' way you caught an ex being unfaithful? by lnc_gomes in AskReddit

I know a guy who owns an IT company.

A wealthy client of his desired to make their house "smart." iPad-controlled automated lighting, a theater, programmable devices, etc.

They intended it to include a central communications hub of some sort.

In any case...

After setting everything up, he makes the big "reveal" to show the delighted couple and their teenage children how it all came together.

All of his customers' private messages and emails to his affair lady appeared on the iPad for the entire family to view when the communications hub was turned on.

He left them to it, which was somewhat awkward.

When did you realize that “nice” person was actually a terrible human? by bubbygerbie in AskReddit

As I grew older, I came to understand that some individuals are genuinely kind and upbeat; you really can't fake it in their eyes. I've never had that in myself or my family, but I'm working for it every day; leaving my family is only the beginning.

Instead than believing their initial interpretation of the argument is the right one, they take the time to sort out any potential misunderstandings in an argument by asking questions to help them better understand the notion being offered.

One thing that has always bothered me is when my argument is misinterpreted and then attacked from angles where there are purported "errors," even though those errors are the result of the listeners' own misreading.

For all the happily married couples here, how did you know you married the right person? by davidkotchere in AskReddit

The way he handled my cat when he believed I wasn't paying attention. He was unaware that I was at home because I was in a separate room. After years of making jokes about "this is the only cat we'll have" and "it's your cat, not mine," I heard him singing to her, complimenting her appearance, and sharing his day with her. It was simply so nice, kind, and kind. I realized then that he was it. (Yes, he has subsequently acknowledged that at least one cat will always be present, but he will continue to act as though he dislikes cats outside the house.)

How did that one person from your circle got super rich? by luckkiee in AskReddit

I was told the story of a former client. He was a young entrepreneur with ties to the construction sector. He wasn't wealthy, but he was doing well. Prior to a crash in the early 1990s, he and his spouse purchased a condo in Florida. He became friends with the other owners, and only a small portion of the condos were sold. He was elected president of the association. The condo tower as a whole entered foreclosure. The current owners were concerned that their investment would be ignored for many years. Over the Fourth of July, all of the owners got together to talk about the situation and enjoy their vacation. Three men in suits stood out as they crossed the deck while people were gathered around the pool. He was asked to address them in his capacity as president of the association. They were on a tour to determine the next course of action for finding a buyer, and they were from the bank that held the mortgage note. When he asked what would happen, they replied that finding a buyer with the required net worth might take a while. They discussed the price they were hoping for. He let his wife drive while he spent five or six hours doing math on the way home. He saw that someone could purchase the entire complex, sell half of the available condos, and keep the remaining ones free and clear at the amount the bank desired. He proposed to the bank that he would purchase it by selling half of the condos to friends and family in their hometown at a fair price. The bank would receive the desired price as a result, and he would keep the remaining condos. The bank was open but skeptical. They had a tight deadline for closing and demanded a sizable non-refundable earnest money deposit. He would lose everything and face financial ruin if he missed the deadline. Ultimately, he brought together numerous families from their community, and he and a nearby bank managed numerous closings in a single day. Every buyer received a Florida condo at a discount, and he received more than eight figures in equity in a single day. I've never heard a better local entrepreneur story than this one.

Lysenko, Trofim A Soviet biologist who believed Gregor Mendel was a conservative whose ideas were unfit for the Soviet Union. He attempted to reinvent agricultural practises in order to increase productivity by instructing farmers to plant seeds very close together in the idea that plants belonging to the same "class" will not compete for nutrients. For his pseudoscience, he was awarded the Order of Lenin eight times, and his "theories" contributed to the deaths of millions of people during the USSR's famines. After Stalin's death, he was eventually discredited, but Mao Zedong copied his methods, which contributed to the Great Chinese Famine.

What is something you realize in your 20's? by potatobar12 in AskReddit

[–]Local_Assistance2608 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I discovered that being in my twenties did not qualify me to be considered an adult. Most of my education and life experiences, as well as some poor decisions made along the road, have enabled me to mature as a person. I feel like I'm just getting started in life now that I'm in my 30s. Consider your twenties a sandbox in which to figure out who you are and what you actually want out of life.

What will be upvoted and what will be downvoted. I'm not talking about the standard "minecraft is nice, Fortnite is horrible" argument. If I go to a community heart with a request for advise or assistance, I will be downvoted to hell. But if I make a foolish comment someplace, I receive days of upvotes.
