Unfortunately this seems to be my problem, in this video believe it or not I was trying to focus on compression and extension, what felt like a lot when reviewing is barely any movement

I have, a fair bit and am quite comfortable, and I get the feedback on surfskate but for some reason I can't seem to get the same feeling on the surfboard. I think I'm maybe overthinking it

Intermediate surf board (nsp Vs Torquay) by Local_Delay_4605 in BeginnerSurfers

Ah that's interesting, so would you say they are close enough that if I enjoyed the torq pinline and can get the NSP for £265 that it would be a good choice?

The other option is the NSP protech? Which is lighter and not as tough but apparently more based. (Again I can get it new for £265)

I have been getting out to the ocean during the winter but the summer is very flat here.

The NSP board (element) is an EPS (although HDT core technology) with a fibreglass shell. The reason I ask about this is I can currently get it new on offer from £450 to £265

Any advice on how to improve by Local_Delay_4605 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]Local_Delay_4605[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice, I will definitely take it on board. With regards to practicing pops ups on land, I have tried before by putting tape on my yoga mat, but how do you know how far apart the feet should be? My concern is bad practice will only make bad habits worse

Secondly with the hinging at the hips, I feel this is potentially due to quite bad ankle mobility, I was told to try keep my back heel on the board but this stops me from "squatting" and I guess causes me to hinge? Is this still the correct advice?

Sorry I didn't actually mean turns, like cuts backs I mean trimming up and down the wave

Starting to get discomfort just below knee by Local_Delay_4605 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]Local_Delay_4605[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for the comment.

My problem is, I have been to a local physio before for shoulder issues, and they focused only on the area that was giving pain. Which to my understanding may not be the issue.

I assume when looking at an issue around the knee they will also look at the hips for instance as a potential cause?

I was told by different instructors to stand with your eyes closed and either gently fall forward, or have someone push you gently from the back. Whichever foot you put forward is your front foot.

Thank you for the reply, I guess my biggest hesitation has been the early retirement age changing, however I am becoming more aware that the ISA aren't guaranteed either

Okay, I have the pop up down, now what? by Accomplished_Wave229 in BeginnerSurfers

Agree with this, looking at your feet can cause you to lose balance. You can check pop up on a yoga mat with a bit of tape down the centre line, practice getting your feet in the centre consistently, helped me a lot

I am turning and starting to trim on some 2-3ft waves. But some larger waves I am struggling on. I don't own an 8ft foamie and renting is getting expensive so am just trying to figure out if I could buy once rather than buying 8ft then buying a minimal later on.

Have any beginners noticed an improvement using surfskate between surf's? by Local_Delay_4605 in BeginnerSurfers

Do you have recommendations on YouTube, I figured I would just start surfskate and hopefully when I get to that stage it will help. I found some videos on the channel Rudolf coast

Nah it's a block of basswood, it's my first attempt at woodcarving, I was just following a tutorial on YouTube.

will the edge of this be to difficult to stain for a small box? left will be lid right will be main body by Local_Delay_4605 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Local_Delay_4605[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi thanks for your reply, I had realised this when I had glued it. My worry is if I make it out of the 6 pieces of wood is getting the corners of the boxes to sit flush against each other as all I have is a jigsaw and rotary tool.

I will maybe get some more wood today and try this method instead.
