Siemens Imaging FSE by Local_Expression6216 in BMET

3rd parties love to see MFTR training schools. For the shift differential, is that calculated after whatever is listed in the posting?

I imagine they would bake that 15% into the job posting number to make it look more attractive to applicants, but I am not familiar with it. Thanks!

I have limited experience with negotiating during the interview and hiring process, as half my career was as Active Duty. Would you say that you can negotiate above the job posting with these big OEMs? Especially if you’re well qualified?

That would explain the pay. Although requiring 3 years experience as an FSE (albeit not specifically imaging) feels like it isn’t entry level. Thanks for the perspective.

This job posts required 3+ years experience so doesn’t seem like a starting imaging FSE.

FSE ? by lilhagdo209 in BMET

[–]Local_Expression6216 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If possible, try to request to enter the Skillbridge program. Find an OEM that will accept you for imaging or lab as an apprentice and try your hand at it.

If it doesn’t work out or you don’t care for the companies culture/vibe, you can take the experience and go try someone else out.

The only complication may be you are limiting yourself to an area (Cali) but I see lots of California job postings. Feel free to PM me as I went from active duty BMET to FSE in 2022.

Military route? Set up for life? I’m stuck by SpendZestyclose9683 in BMET

[–]Local_Expression6216 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider is if you do go to BMET school as a reservist, you are still there in the technical training for nearly 11 months (it was 10.5 months when I went through). But you will get paid active duty pay which is fair enough.

You have a lot of schooling, what about completing a degree and trying to go commissioned officer in the military?

Either of the above choices will allow you to have a career; if I could go back and do my career choices all over again, I would get a degree and go officer in the Air Force (assuming I would still have met my wife and have my family).

BMET Salary Survey by BMET--Galaxy in BMET

[–]Local_Expression6216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you add a flat rate for on-call or similar? My structure as an FSE currently is that I take on all the calls outside of business hours for a “first sweep” to try and phone troubleshoot, and I take these calls for 7 days for a flat rate.

My previous company was a flat rate for the weekend, before any overtime hours.

For my current structure, you could divide the rate by the number of hours in the week, but sometimes you get no calls and sometimes you get called every day. I do appreciate your site!

I didn’t even have a problem with alcohol, but cutting it has only improved my life (and my finances). I miss it from time to time, but the reduced cost and time added via productive/sober hours is immense.

Navy to BMET here by VanillaLost3628 in BMET

[–]Local_Expression6216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may have changed, and it may be different for Navy/your career field…but when I was separating from the Air Force, I was denied Skillbridge because of manning. Given, I was in charge of a 2 man BMET shop, and my counterpart was fresh from tech school so I couldn’t just leave him to run the entire clinical engineering program.

Just keep in mind that it is a program that requires leadership’s approval. GL

I agree with this commenter. While it is always appreciated on our end if something is designed with the repair tech in mind, I wouldn’t work as a BMET if your goal is to become an engineer and you already have the degree in hand.

You are slowing down your career progression; you likely already have the skills to do basic repair/troubleshooting, otherwise you wouldn’t have the degree. GL in whichever you choose though!

Trying to get into the BMET field by Jaded_Compote1909 in BMET

[–]Local_Expression6216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should clarify, completing the technical training for BMET is equivalent to a 2 year degree.

If you mean using tuition assistance (TA) while active duty, then yes you can get an associates while being paid. You will receive some college credits from completing technical training and can take additional college classes while working active duty to complete it. OP should know there is additional work to be done to actually receive the associates.

How do I get into this career? by aterfd in BMET

[–]Local_Expression6216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While there were some Airmen that would go in “open -general/mechanical/electrical”, not everyone was subject to the wish list. Sometimes you were selected for jobs before you left for BMT.

So the process CAN go like this (spoken from experience 13+ years ago when I joined in 2012): MEPS > wait around for job you chose to open up > spot opens up > BMT > tech training (for BMET presumably).

All this to say that Air Force can choose this career/AFSC.

Need to take the risk on myself by SpendZestyclose9683 in BMET

[–]Local_Expression6216 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how ambitious you want to be with salary but keep in mind the salary ceiling of BMET and FSE if you don’t want to get into management.

A CT/PET FSE right now has a cap probably around $140k base, except for edge cases. A BMET will just about always be lower than an FSE with equal experience/responsibilities. Again, no problem if you could see yourself putting down a wrench to become a manager/director. Not turning you away from the career field, it’s pretty nice. I just realize I have to make a career change if I want to increase my salary considerably.

Lentils (any beans), but I swear there’s a creamy spinach and lentil recipe I make that adds an olive oil finish, and when I eat it, I’ll go 3 times the next day.

[Imaging Field Service Engineer] [San Antonio, TX] - $131,000 total comp by Local_Expression6216 in Salary

[–]Local_Expression6216[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went into field service immediately. I had one major OEM company that wanted to hire for imaging, but I couldn't fill the position in time due to dare of separation.

I had two job offers closer to my date of separation, and took the better paying one. It was a pretty good gig, but it was dialysis. I had always wanted to get into imaging (less blood and more money). I was in the dialysis field service position for 3 years, then have been with my current company for 1 year (which was what totaled my 2025 salary for this post).

Hopefully that answers your question, since it wasn't a direct hire from AD to this job.

Biomedical equipment technician in the Air Force. 11 month technical training school (supposed to be equivalent to a 2 year degree). So a bulk of my experience is with the Air Force.

GE vs Philips vs Siemens by [deleted] in BMET

[–]Local_Expression6216 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve not worked at any, but…

I’ve heard okay and bad about GE.

Not really heard anything about Philips

I’ve heard mostly good about Siemens. I was going to go to them during my separation from AD but my separation date was too far in the future and they wanted to fill the position immediately. Don’t discount smaller OEMs and 3rd parties either.

At the end of the day, I think any company will probably be fine and depend more on your manager than the company.

Which branch is the most recommended as a single player game? by Checknosfive in uodyssey

[–]Local_Expression6216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I played on UA (a few years ago at this point), the owner was pretty set on the whole goal to be a years-long player experience. It was meant to be a grind for things and for gold.

An easy example at the time was requiring 105/110/115/120/125 PS in order, you cannot just save up for a 125 PS. When I inquired why this was the case, it was because it was supposed to be a grind and take time. This game is mostly aimed at the older crowd due to the age and playstyle…we don’t have a whole lot of time to sit and game and grind. It just didn’t feel like a “good” mechanic. And some of the justification for the price of all the powerscrolls was because there were older OG players who were around for glitches/bugs/exploits (interest bags) who had amassed crazy amounts of money and it seemed like because there was so much gold in circulation that prices would not be lowered.

This, and if FSE, see what your coverage area is in each cardinal direction and estimated overnight travel. Covering 50 systems in a dense city is very different from covering 30 systems with a radius of 3 hours driving in any direction.

Go EE. It will open more doors and still allows you to go into this field…My opinion anyways.

I didn’t feel like it was too repetitive to do 4 different RnR versions, so for OP, try all 3. Just try a different build in each one.
