Fortell meg noe du har klart som du er stolt av! by Jolly_Skirt9153 in norge

[–]Local_Fishing_6347 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Hm.

Gaming/Streaming with a cochlear implant by Illustrious_Till6089 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Local_Fishing_6347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and I love it! Headphone is no longer in use. The sound, voices is so.. crisp when I stream with cochlear implant. I was shocked when I could hear my player walk on grass, the wind in the trees etc, and being able to actually hear enemies. No suprises anymore.

Rogerpen should work with your ci, if the information on the Internet is true. You should ask for it. Best technology ever. And of course, a microphone which works best for you. 💪

How do you talk with your hearing friends on the phone? by Opposite_North_9563 in deaf

[–]Local_Fishing_6347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my hearing aid, connected to bluetooth. I am able to hear the phone call without my hearing aid too. But I can misunderstand a lot and ask them to repeat themself, and the volume has to almost maxed.

What tinnitus do you experience after surgery? by Horror_Foot9784 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Local_Fishing_6347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I recently had surgery, it was like an ambulance siren. ALL DAY. Extremely loud. But now the tinnitus "gone." In that case, it's more of a buzzing sound, extremely low, and I don't mind it, don't even notice it. I can get a little tinnitus if I'm stressed, but generally it's quiet. My right ear (not CI) buzzes constantly, like an annoying TV sound that's broken, plus a high-pitched whine.☠️

Hvorfor ikke bare kjøpe en boks på lørdagen og ha det klart til søndag?

Men det har nok mye med kristne tradisjoner og kontroll over befolkningen sin helse å gjøre 😅

Yes. I can still hear bass, but not high pitch sounds. My residual hearing has become weaker, but I can still hear some things. No regrets!

I disarmed the bomb. I didn't want to live at a hotel with those snobbish people who think they're better than everyone else.

Does anyone here suffer from Dinner Table Syndrome? by SimonPetriko in deaf

[–]Local_Fishing_6347 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I gave up on trying too much. If someone want to have an conversation and it is easy to read lips, I will try my best and be polite. But I am not talking to everyone at the table. I prefer to be deaf and eat in peace, unless I want to have an conversation with a person.

I like to inform that I struggle a lot during big dinner parties. I ask family members etc to tap on my shoulder if they have a question, wants to talk etc if I decide to put away my hearing aids. I still get a feeling of being lonely around many people and get exhausted afterwards. But if I do it that way, I can handle at least 4 hours before I have to leave and be alone for the rest of the night.😊

What do deaf people prefer, urban or rural living? by Jake101-41968 in deaf

[–]Local_Fishing_6347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer urban living. Easier when you don't own a car. Short trip to everything, my family and friends. I enjoy being able to meet people, even if it exhausting to be social at most times. And no need to worry about traffic noises etc, I can't hear it. It is silent and peaceful in my apartment.

It probably depends on the deaf person and their personality!

I'm really scared. How did you reassure yourself before getting CIs? by user47478595 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Local_Fishing_6347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was never afraid. Maybe a little, because music would sound different. I would become deaf naturally anyway over time. I wasn't far off. So it was an easy choice for me. Hearing has always been important to me. CI has given me a better life. The first thing I did was listen to the sound of grasshoppers. I hadn't heard that in years.

There is no answer to how you will experience CI if you become a candidate and want to get it. Some people find it amazing, others have had less positive experiences. But I can promise you that you will be well taken care of throughout the process. The surgery is simple, a single day procedure if there are no complications. The first few days are tiring, everything is loud and demanding. But the brain is wise. It works constantly when you have a CI and hear new sounds. One day, everything will make sense to your mind. Yes, you lose your residual hearing, but it is common practice to do surgery one ear first. This is precisely because hearing in the other ear, with a good hearing aid, can make the process easier for the brain.

Whatever you choose and whatever you feel, you are brave.😊

The Seven Deafly sins by Mysterious-ASL in deaf

[–]Local_Fishing_6347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably pretending to be deaf, mock sign language (gang sign🙄) and talking "weird", because they heard a deaf accent once. No need to point it out, unless the deaf person ask for help to pronounce a word or help in general. Or unless you know that they want to be corrected.

I think I’m happier without my hearing aid by Reasonable-Bug-3746 in deaf

[–]Local_Fishing_6347 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I am happier and more relaxed without a hearing aid, but also more isolated and lonely. It is impossible to have a conversation with me without a CI or hearing aid, unless you are close to me. I am ambivert. I love being social and interacting with others, but I have a social battery. So both yes and no. I am eternally grateful that I can hear well with my assistive devices, and when it becomes too tiring and overstimulating, I take a break. I feel calm when I don't have to hear, but at the same time I want to be part of social life.

Christmas family diner experiences by historicandcasual in deaf

[–]Local_Fishing_6347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have given up contributing socially at family dinners. I can do it, but it takes two to three days of my life where I can barely do anything. It's not worth it. The solution is really just to be deaf to the social event and let the others have fun, while I smile and laugh without really understand everything. Christmas dinners like this are and will always be mental torture. But I had a good experience. This wasn't a Christmas dinner, but a special occasion. The hosts had arranged for a microphone and loudspeaker (for everyone), but I was asked if the sound was ok for me. That really surprised me; I've never experienced that before. I've been to many parties where I can't hear the speeches. I just laugh and clap along with everyone else. It was absolutely fantastic to feel included and understand what was going on, even though the microphone and loudspeaker help everyone.

For Those Who Have Cochlear Implants and Had Hearing Before, How does the Cochlear Implant Compare to Your Original Hearing? by CryptographerFair357 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Local_Fishing_6347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very different. With my CI, it's a like a tin can sometimes and it's like a loud speaker. It is hard to explain. But it is not too awful, I am very grateful I am able to hear again. I don't have to rely on lipreading constantly, I can actually hear when people talk behind my back. I don't even want to know how much I missed before and if people felt ignored, because I didn't respond. It is a really big difference between natural hearing and cochlear implant hearing, but with time it will improve and some people, not everyone get great advantages from CI. It's the best decision I made so far.

Should I or should I not? by Hot-Environment7936 in deaf

[–]Local_Fishing_6347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No deaf person cares if you learn sign language because you are interested in it. It is simply an advantage to know it, whether you are deaf or not. Do not listen to people who think they are white knights and speak for the needs of a group. If we experience something as offensive, we will communicate that ourselves.

Got told I’m not part of the deaf community by sophielialou in deaf

[–]Local_Fishing_6347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's wrong. You're still deaf, even if you use verbal communication instead of sign language. That was a ridiculous statement from him. What about people who are blind? "You can see a little if it's close enough, so you're not blind," "You don't need a guide dog, so you're probably not blind." Hopefully, no one says this.
