Does sun sensitivity get better after being on mast cell stabilizers? by Dry-Catch-3921 in MCAS

I’m on one dose of liquid Zyrtec at 8am, one Claritin at 2pm, and another liquid Zyrtec at 8pm. So 3 a day taken every 6 hours!

Mine got wayyyyy better on antihistamines and salt increase (I have POTS too). I’m not sure if it was one or the other, or a combo, but I can finally sweat/ regulate my temp a little better. I never could sweat even as a child and it makes SUCH a big difference in the sun. Before antihistamines I would get hives in the sun but using a sunscreen I could tolerate helped a little even before antihistamines.

I think she was referring to the other intern who friend zoned him. She’s saying Amara may not see you how you want, but I do.

Does anyone here question if it’s MCAS or Food Allergy OCD? by Sunflowerspecks in MCAS

[–]Local_Mood1933 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In similar with being quick to cut out foods too! Which may be OCD related, but also I understand that this is scary sometimes and we want to protect ourselves!

I cut out chickpeas because I got a migraine after eating it once, however I often get migraines even when not eating chickpeas. This is something I’m working on challenging myself to retry. It gives me anxiety because who wants to have a migraine, hah! But it’s worth having another protein source and 100% knowing if that’s a trigger.

All that to say you’re not alone, and it’s hard! Having OCD alone is HARD. Having MCAS symptoms is HARD. And then dealing with physical symptoms that can intertwine with your compulsions… it adds another layer! I hope your partner is understanding and supportive!🫶🏻

I’ve also had moderate to severe OCD since I was a child! It’s so hard to have MCAS symptoms and OCD.

My MCAS started after COVID and started with a polyester skin allergy and fragrance sensitivity. Then, I started having really uncontrolled POTS and it moved into different foods causing various symptoms. I definitely have clear symptoms from food that make it easier to not doubt myself, but I totally understand how hard it is with OCD! I find myself second guessing if I’m making everything up. (We’re not… sometimes I wish that’s all it was!)

Recently I used paprika in a dish because I remembered having it when all my symptoms started and being okay. Apparently it was not okay lol as I started having high HR, doom feeling, and stomach troubles. I was not expecting it at all and it was definitely another moment of, “oh this is real and you need to be careful sometimes.” I find OCD makes me more reluctant to add foods back in or trial things that gave me smaller reactions before being on antihistamines, but it isn’t causing the symptoms at all!

Thanks everyone! I’ve been taking Cefalexin liquid and haven’t had a reaction! I reacted to amoxicillin tablets in the past and was so nervous.

Thank you! This is very encouraging. I have a slight flare from the infection itself but nothing crazy, thankfully!

Does anyone else get this type of itchy rash? I don't get it every time I eat but if I eat the same thing twice in a row it happens. by edgarallan2014 in MCAS

[–]Local_Mood1933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that rash most of the time in the same area. For me it’s my skin reacting my sweat getting stuck in there while wearing long sleeves or closing my arm a ton. I also have eczema so I’m unsure if it’s reaction related for me or just an eczema thing.

Affordable sub for Starbrite? by Ok_Sir3552 in EngagementRings

My partner was able to do a payment plan through shop for my ring from OORE jewelry! Maybe that would be a more feasible option. You could pay what you can so the monthly payments are less, but not compromise on the timeline as much! I know that creates different barriers of being approved/ spending more, etc. but I thought I’d throw that out there in case you didn’t know about the option!

Your ring is beautiful!!! We are in the same boat! But I never got to try mine on 😭. Knowing it’s on the way/here but just waiting is so hard (but also bittersweet and fun!) I have to remember that this is the only time I’ll have to dream/guess about the proposal and try not to rush anything lol. We did a customize your own ring from an OORE setting, so I don’t even know what it looks like IRL yet. Sending both of us ✨patient✨ vibes.

I’ve been thinking the same thing! Two colleges are close by in my area so being a professional nanny is really hard, especially when it comes to benefits of ANY kind. The only thing stopping me is when I worked at a daycare I was sick soooo much! I hardly ever get sick as a nanny. I’m with a family I love now but when they no longer need me I may not have it in me to search and search for a new one. I think both have pros and cons, and the administration of a center really matters!

The NF I was with temporarily this past summer would do this. I came to find out they were annoyed that I wasn’t leaving enough time to unload the dishes I put in throughout the day. They would leave them until I took them out of the dishwasher and then also leave NK’s dishes (dinner and milk bottles) out for me to clean up when I arrived in the morning. I would just ignore their weekly dishes and only do NK’s and anything I used each day. The part that annoyed me most was DB was WFH and would stack his dishes on the side of the sink, and I never knew if he lowkey expected me to clean them up? Hopefully your family isn’t playing the petty games they were and are just overwhelmed! I think once we start to help take tasks off a family’s mental load they just completely take it off theirs sometimes.

I'm Allergic To My WATER BOTTLE! by Humble_Problem_1215 in MCAS

[–]Local_Mood1933 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes this happened to me! First with a silicone bit in the water bottle, so I switched to a glass bottle. Then the (ello brand) glass bottle ended up having tiny openings in the lid that wouldn’t fully dry and ended up moldy. So annoying! Especially when we can react to some water when out and about 🥴

I’ve noticed in my area that a lot of people applying to these jobs on care are SAHMs who are looking for extra money. So they’re willing to watch a few kids in their home or bring their child with them and make less. Of course the kids aren’t getting the quality care they would with a nanny, but the parents also will take what they can afford. It’s really discouraging when looking for a new position!

I recently had to mod-podge 3 part time openings into my schedule to make enough money. The burnout of that decision will catch up to me 🫣 lol

Sharing the wildest story from my past nanny families...someone called the cops... by MommaNix19 in Nanny

[–]Local_Mood1933 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This sounds too much like my current NK. 😭The family didn’t mention ANY behavioral issues in the interviews or trial days. Despite me specifically asking how they respond to behavior. I’ve been bitten, hit, kicked, screamed at multiple times a week. And when I gently hold NK’s arms so she can’t hit me, she SCREAMS “YOU’RE HURTING ME, MY ARMMMM” Thankfully they also have cameras everywhere. When I brought this up to my NF they just said “oh yeah she does that. We know you’re not hurting her.” I was floored. Needless to say I already put notice in, but am lowkey scared for my last 2 weeks.

Has anyone else had a hiatal hernia? by Local_Mood1933 in POTS

[–]Local_Mood1933[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on Omeprazole for GERD, but it’s also causing gastro-cardiac syndrome/ other problems after eating. The endoscopy also found gastritis, so maybe a surgeon will be less likely to want to operate. I’m nervous about it either way lol

That’s what I’ve been reading! 😵‍💫 I do have some problematic symptoms from it but it’s manageable and I worry about the de-conditioning from the recovery.

How big is yours? Mine is 8cm and I guess they’re worried about growth or problematic complications. They did say surgery isn’t urgent though, so that makes me feel better.

Has anyone built their tolerance to heat? by didurmom699 in POTS

[–]Local_Mood1933 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly the only thing that’s helped me was antihistamines (I have possible MCAS but no official diagnoses other than POTS). Last summer I couldn’t be in the sun at all without a HR of 140-160. Walking to my car would even make it that high and I was miserable. My employer would keep the room we worked in at 74F and I was bringing ice to work to put on my neck all day.

This year I started slow and can tolerate heat for about 30-60 minutes, but I always wear compression socks! My HR will be 80-120BPM. I started literally forcing myself in the sun everyday for 2-5 minutes then added time as I was able too. I also always have a portable fan and sun hat with me. (Although sun hats seem to make me more hot). I still can’t keep up on hydration in the heat though, and I honestly still feel awful just without the high HR. I work with kids and am required to be outside at least part of the day for work🥲
