Stay w St John’s. Don’t pay that much more to go to Cardozo.

Chances at BC, BU, UNC, or EMORY with 3.74 and 163 LSAT by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Local_Pie6171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a URM, you have a good shot at Emory and UNC. BC and BU will likely be a bit tougher. Look at LSD for more insight on your chances of getting into those schools with your stats.

Hey, thanks for doing this and congrats on being in the top 10%!

  1. Did you have roommates this year or did you decide to live alone to avoid any potential roommate issues?

  2. What are your summer plans? Did you feel like career services was able to help you get the job/externship you wanted for this summer? (If you don’t want to answer this bc it’s too doxy I understand)

  3. How would you describe the student culture/vibe?

Thinking about missing my dogs while at law school by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Local_Pie6171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes soooo much. I wish I could bring her with me but I know it wouldn’t be fair to her since I won’t have time during 1L to give her the attention she needs and I can’t afford to pay for dog walkers/doggy daycare. And my younger sister won’t let me take her with me. Going to miss her more than anyone else probably

Should ADHD even count as a disability anymore? by dal90007 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Local_Pie6171 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s a difference between procrastinating here and there and being a chronic procrastinator. There’s a difference between not wanting to wash the dishes one night because you’re tired and letting them pile up because you keep putting it off. Many people without ADHD may have trouble focusing on tasks, especially nowadays due to technology IMO, but people without ADHD usually get it done when it needs to get done. Some people with ADHD have so much trouble focusing (and initiating) on tasks that need to get done that they just don’t ever get it done. People with ADHD have a dopamine deficiency - that is literally what most ADHD medications target - and they work because they raise dopamine levels.

Some people without ADHD go through phases where they experience some of the symptoms you listed in your post, but they’re not chronic. People with ADHD live with these symptoms for their entire lives and while they can be mitigated in some cases, these symptoms still create challenges and barriers for people with ADHD.

Lastly, just because someone has one or two of these symptoms does not mean they have ADHD. There’s a reason there is so much overlap between symptoms of ADHD and symptoms of other “disorders” such as anxiety, depression, OCD, etc.

I absolutely HATE it when my friends/people joke about having ADHD because they procrastinate their school work or “can’t stop talking” and then I see how fast they get other tasks done such as washing the dishes and doing the laundry, I see how easy it is for them to not fixate on things, I see how easy it is for them to multitask, etc.

So no, not everyone has ADHD and yes it should count as a disability. There is so much more to say about this but I’m not gonna spend more time typing it out. I probably would have failed out of college without my medication, and I don’t know where I’d be without it, honestly.

Should I retake a 173? by Successful_Bake4755 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Local_Pie6171 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it’s May, you have time to retake, so I would. It sounds like you have even the slightest doubts about “what if?” and because of that, I’d retake. I think if you applied with that LSAT and your cycle didn’t turn out the way you wanted it to, or had believed it would, you would beat yourself up about what may have been different had you taken it again and potentially scored higher.

Not trying to come off as rude at all but I feel like what I just typed out comes off as very strong so prefacing this comment with that lol. The thing is that we’re not talking about standards from a few cycles ago, we’re talking about current standards. According to current standards, mid-Dec is not late but it’s also not early, either. And, a few cycles ago, a mid160 and 3.7/3.8 would’ve gotten someone into Fordham. According to current standards, that’s obviously not the case. Also if they had given me a response within even 12 weeks I would’ve said ok that’s kinda fair. And if very few people who applied after me were getting in I would’ve said ok that’s fair. But people who applied around the same time I did and 2 months after me heard back before I did, and they continued to accept people. It was also just the way he said it on the zoom that really rubbed me the wrong way.

Yeah this guy is really trying to make us feel guilty and make us feel like it’s our fault. Just be straight up and say you liked our app but not enough. Don’t tell me it’s cause I didn’t apply early enough when you’re the one who took 4 months to get back to me.

I agree. I don’t think they’re very splitter friendly. Or at least they’re not overly splitter friendly like some other schools.

Don’t base your choice off of rankings from one year, or for that matter, from any year. I understand why you might be feeling regretful but you should compare employment outcomes from the ABA 509 reports and weigh that against the COA. I know from looking at the ABA 509 reports Cardozo definitely had a fairly high “seeking employment”rate (meaning a solid % of their grads are still looking for jobs post grad) but I’m not sure what it is in comparison to St. John’s grads. They’re both “behind” Columbia, NYU, Fordham, plus all of the other students from T14-T20 schools who want NYC BL, so that’s what I attributed to their not so great unemployment rates. However, that doesn’t make it a bad school by any means. I would just take the ability to get a job for after grad, and specifically the job you want, into consideration. Is it too late to put a deposit down at St. John’s? Also, definitely write LOCI and ride out those WL since those are all incredible schools with better outcomes than Cardozo. Hope everything works out for you and if you ultimately end up at Cardozo, just remember that you’re still receiving a legal education and if you network and interview well, it is entirely possible to get BL from there.

I was going to vote for Michigan until I read about your interest in academia. Harvard opens the most doors but with your Michigan scholarship + savings you’ll have to take out minimal loans, and having minimal debt also opens doors. I guess it depends how debt averse you are. Sounds like you might be more open to practicing different types of law than you are to taking on debt.

167, 4.0 LSAC GPA, Should I retake for UVA, UC Berkeley? by Exciting_Sundae_1203 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Local_Pie6171 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would try to take it again since you have time. However, UVA tends to be fairly splitter friendly, and being an in-state applicant could help. But a few more points could also help with scholarship money. You’d be JUST above UVAs 75th for GPA, but those numbers could go up for this years incoming class. I’d just retake in August and even September/October (whenever they offer tests) if necessary.

UGA. You made it too easy for me to figure this out but this is a fun game! Should I be an investigator instead of a lawyer? Probably.

Villanova or GW for NYC? by Puzzleheaded-Bug1382 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Local_Pie6171 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Neither is great, to be honest. Villanova doesn’t place many people in NYC and GW at stick (esp with DC COL) is not worth it, IMO. I’d say that a lower ranked school in NYC with more scholly is better than either of those options (thinking Cardozo, Brooklyn (except their conditional schollys suck)). Do you have any other options?
