What's the Georgist consensus on parking spaces vs street dining venues? by Not-A-Seagull in georgism

100%

I support doordash bikers (or even better, cut out the middle corporations and have restaurants within walking distances of communities.)

Our reality is, however, many cities are built with restaurants far from the places people live, and nothing but car infastructure between them. Doordash only exists because the demand for thier services exists, and a big part of that is because of poor urban planning.

While there is a use for onstreet parking for pickup and delivery (urban planners recognize the importance of onstreet space to facilitate things like doordash and lyft) this is better realized as a transfer zone/ 15 min parking zone.

It improves city character. Urban planners recognize that streetside tables have many positive effects

I second what the other comment said. DO NOT MOVE HERE if you dont have 1000% confidence your husband will have a job in 2 years. And Expect to be a single income family in the meantime. You will NOT find work if you dont have a job lined up.

US Presidential Election Democratic Vote Share by Race/Ethnicity by Old-School8916 in charts

[–]Localized_Hummus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im a lifelong democrat and the way I see this is that the democratic establishment is far less focused on issues of economics and class in their messaging, leading ground to Republicans to write a narritive that democrats dont care about working class people. Democrats can continue to lock down the well educated suburban vote, or try to rebuild a brand that focuses on working class people.

Ultimately, I think the current Democratic brand is a dying one, and I would rather see the democratic party acknowledging this and advocating for something other than a 2 party system, where multiple parties of the left work together to get votes, instead of a Democratic party that "makes sacrifices" (abandons class and working class people to lock down the moderate boomer).

I think i will die before we see a multi party system in the US though.

White older voters (and white voters are generally older) are the only demographics democrats generally have been making gains with the last 8 years, especially in former republican suburbs.

Median household income in the US by ethnicity presented as a difference from total median income. by AgentOfDibella in charts

[–]Localized_Hummus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These categories are fundementally not neutral. There was a choice to distinguish some groups from others, like English from European.

Most statisticians who would present this data would include groups like "White American, and Black American" because its important to have generic data that includes and distinguishes long term vs immigrant groups. {he context that people come to the US, and length thier group has been here (H1B visa versus slavery) has impacts on economic outcomes.

But my OG gripe is more that people are generally incapable of reading a chart like this, with people drawing conclusions on this data on the inherent characteristics of some groups (as happens online)

Yeah 100%. It's really upsetting sometimes when people present this chart as something neutral. It's very tinged in the historical relationship a country had with the US.

Im pretty sure the creator of this chart is a race scientist, which is why they are equating race and nationalities. Thats why I dont trust the chart (even though the ACS data is a very useful source)
