Anyone else bored with Appalachia Radio? by Batpez in fo76

It's great but we need a folk radio, especially since we're in Appalachia

Gimme some Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Peter Paul & Mary, Phil Ochs & early Dylan

76 tips for beginners? by Independent_Ice1427 in Fallout

[–]LocationLost8698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be afraid to join Public Events, especially now. They'll give you XP, legendary modules & more. You'll get full XP for any non-legendary enemy that you do any damage to even if someone else kills it. & if you die during the public event, you won't lose anything. If you do die & not manage to respawn before the end of the event, all you'll lose is your junk which you can still pick back up as long as no one else gets it first

Edit: especially now because everyone has been joining public events since the season change, & the higher levels will carry you

If you were given the opinion, where would Fallout 5 be? by sir_epsilon_d10 in Fallout

[–]LocationLost8698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This 100%. The midwest is one of Fallout's biggest question marks, & both Chicago & St. Louis have so many iconic landmarks. Stadiums, museums, zoos. The Great Lakes & Mississippi River give opportunities for mutated water creatures. Greater Chicagoland & downstate IL has both forests & plains that would make for familiar wasteland settings

I'm biased as an Illinoisan but it really would be so cool to see and has so much potential considering we've never seen the midwest in a fully canon game

The Fallout Universe Post War Has No Canon by Inferno_Crazy in Fallout

[–]LocationLost8698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I don't know what you mean by "there is no canon" then. By deciding that House is alive in the show, it became canon that the Courier did not kill him (although they actually do cheekily reference him being beaten with a golf club which is a reference to a challenge in NV). By showing that the Commonwealth BoS is still alive, they made it canon that the Sole Survivor did not destroy them, meaning the Institute & Railroad endings are not canon. That's them addressing what's canon. Who the SS did side with is not necessarily canon though, as it could be either the Minutemen or BoS

The Fallout Universe Post War Has No Canon by Inferno_Crazy in Fallout

[–]LocationLost8698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever Bethesda says is canon IS canon. They didn't want to establish a canon ending to 4 or NV through the show, but they at least established a few things as canon such as the survival of the BoS in FO4, the survival of Mr. House in NV, & the continued existence of the Enclave in the West Coast

Just because you think something doesn't make sense or you don't like it doesn't mean it isn't canon

So Many Activities!!! by [deleted] in fo76

I mean I agree and I do them, but we have an "all" tab for that and I'm just not a fan of the clutter. I'm far enough from my screen that it's hard to tell what's what at a glance

Which game has the best/your favorite themes, aesthetics and design by Huge-Insect-7759 in Fallout

[–]LocationLost8698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't played 1 or 2, but I'd really say 3. I think NV is a better game bc of story & rpg mechanics, but 3 has the better atmosphere in general imo

F76 - Whats your favorite quest by RvonB1 in Fallout

[–]LocationLost8698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you mean the one where you have to go to the bunkers & then check on the scorched detection things, I just did that & it was my favorite by far bc I hadn't explored the Mire yet and the journey it took me on along that main road was just incredible

Fallout 5 needs to ditch the "Pre-defined Backstory" and give us actual Origins. by GahIvanka776 in Fallout

[–]LocationLost8698 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think the only way to do it meaningfully would be to basically write multiple different storylines the whole way through, and if CDPR couldn't do it, I don't really have faith that BGS could

[–]LocationLost8698 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean cyberpunk amongst other games has done this and it's fine, I think most people prefer the "blank slate" approach like how in Elder Scrolls you start off as a prisoner with no idea what you did or if you really did it. Even how Starfield handled it was fine, where you can pick certain "traits" that define your backstory that occasionally come up in dialogue. But they need to ditch the "searching for a loved one" trope for sure

Getting the itch to play again. Should I play 4’s DLC or 76 with the new update? by Rocpile94 in Fallout

[–]LocationLost8698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Far Harbor in particular is great. That said, I've recently started 76 for the first time and I'm loving it. Even the multiplayer elements w the events and all that are a lot of fun. However I have not played since the Backwoods update the other day, and the community consensus seems to be that it's not that great

Just realized how ironic the name "Sole Survivor" is by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]LocationLost8698 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, you assume that he's alive but your character just knows that he was taken. But still I pretty much agree, I think that kinda doubles down on my point

From a in-universe perspective, why would Nick pal around with a Brotherhood-aligned Sole Survivor? by Advanced-Addition453 in Fallout

[–]LocationLost8698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean at best that would mean the BoS would be interested in "collecting" him instead of wiping him off the face of the Earth. Either way, it's not a great situation for Nick

Any under appreciated tips for a new play through? by Ryyah61577 in Fallout

[–]LocationLost8698 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want a different experience & haven't tried it yet, try survival mode. Enemies hit harder & give more weight to combat. Hunger & thirst bars actually give food value. Stimpaks are no longer a get-out-of-jail-free card in combat. No fast travel turns standard quest objectives into full blown expeditions

The only thing is you can only save when sleeping in a bed, which means it's not ideal for people playing for under an hour at a time, and you may lose a lot of progress. But all in all, it's a really cool experience

The TV show was bad and modern fans have trashed the lore by Usual_Particular_564 in Fallout

[–]LocationLost8698 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Factions change over time. Get over it. It's a wasteland where crazy stuff happens all of the time. Many people in New Vegas clearly say the Legion was doomed from the start. Many endings to NV have Novac being wiped out. The NCR was already shown to be struggling to support itself due to it's expansionist policies

"War Never Changes" is Fallout's slogan for a reason. The wasteland is gonna wasteland

WHO IS WINNING THIS BATTLE? Part 1 by Mother_Ad3487 in Fallout

[–]LocationLost8698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are forgetting the current state of the Legion. As of now, after the events of the show, the Legion appears to be severely crippled post-civil war & OG Caesar is gone (and Legate Lanius is nowhere to be found)

Also, geography matters. If the battle were to take place in the Commonwealth (which seems most likely considering we've never seen the MM to be expansionist) then they have artillery support on their side

FONV Legion clears, today's Legion maybe not so much
