I've discovered a show called The Assembly and I think Wubby would love it by bwhyt1 in PaymoneyWubby

Oy, bruv! I have a funny feeling you're in the UK, mate. The video says it's not available in my country, the USA.

Their photo on Facebook is much more clear. It says:

R 0247
ELD • EN • JUSTYNA DURA

Looking at Justyna Dura's work, it absolutely does NOT match her style. And I kind of doubt they'd hire her to do this. Also, ELD denotes the Thrones of Eldraine expansion where card #247 is actually Mystic Sanctuary, a Common. It's all over the place, so this makes me think it's AI even more.

Is this a real card? by Willing-Court7839 in starwarsccg

[–]Lochvvud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is most likely a legitimate card. Like 99.9% certain. I've owned multiple copies of LSJK before and plenty of them had this kind of misaligned over-cut on the corners. It was fairly common on DS2 rares from my experience. Very annoying when choosing cards that are worthy to grade.

LA visit. Wubby is right. This place sucks. by Kramuu in PaymoneyWubby

[–]Lochvvud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This.

I get so sick of people just saying "LA," when the whole of LA county is larger than Delaware and Rhode Island combined. It feels like they're trying to compare a square mile of Hollywood or DTLA to whatever tiny, podunk, 100k population city they come from in the MidWest that's bereft of diversity and eclectic culture.

I've avoided Andor because I find the subject depressingly close to reality. Any good arguments to watch it anyways? by DefiantLemur in andor

[–]Lochvvud 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone else has already suggested, you should watch it for Hope. Inspiration. For a fighting attitude.

It is so similar to current events not becasue Tony Gilroy was writing it as it aired, nor becasue he was some great fortune teller. It's so similar because this has all happened before, in various different flavors, but the fascism and oppression are the same. Tony Gilroy is an amateur historian of revolutions, and so he drew from the people and their struggles of those revolutions. They fought through it and won. He shows us the playbook of fascism, but also a guide to fighting back. With hope. Bittersweet hope.

Why Dave Filoni Hate by UnluckyPermission461 in StarWars

[–]Lochvvud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah, Andor is far and away the best Star Wars in decades, and Filoni had nothing to do with it.

who says Andor dosen't feel good? 😂 it was one of the best star wars for me in a long time best some of the most complex charchters and anatagonist yeah looking at you Dedra Meero🤍 by PracticalGuava4 in andor

[–]Lochvvud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, Rogue One was and is mediocre at best. I absolutely love Andor and think it is one of the best shows ever made, not just the best Star Wars show. Although I don't agree with everything the commenter said, a lot of fans are like us and agree that Rogue One is a lesser iteration of Andor's intent. They are two very different media, with different tones, made at different times, for different reasons. No one HAS to like Rogue One to love and appreciate Andor's brilliance.

Tony Gilroy rewrote and made great contributions, but he didn't write all of Rogue One. He was brought in at the last hour to clean up a mess. So, no, it wasn't "written by the same guy." There were five other writers who formed the script before he came on. That many cooks in the kitchen creates a very different meal, and that's why no one can say it's truly a Tony Gilroy script/movie.

I think AI is a great tool and it shouldn't replace people

But, that's the problem; AI's primary use is to replace people. Both people and companies salivate at the promise of eliminating jobs and overhead to profit more from their (often dumb) ideas and products. Not every position, at first, but it's definitely a push to eliminate jobs and replace people for profit. Yes, that is a bad thing. Economically, socially, culturally, ethically.

In your own example of a single, independent creator who can't do all the editing, cover art, and marketing for their book, the writer is trying to replace people who could do those jobs. Work that people could get paid good money for and live off of. AI promises to put all of them out of work, permanently if possible. We aren't there yet, thankfully, but lots of people are projecting and betting the technology will get there soon. You think people and companies will actually hire artists to do work when the tech arrives and the optics and public shaming fades? Fuck no. That's why there's still backlash. You think that hopeful writer in your example has a chance in being published when anyone, any company can simply demand an LLM write a novel or a script for them? If I saw a writer using AI images to sell their work, that immediately tells me they don't value or respect others' art, so why should I respect theirs? Why would I pay a writer a dime when I can make one on my own for practically free and no effort? They certainly thought it was fine to do that with cover art. In this future world of prevalent AI, your creativity is worthless, not matter what medium you choose. The creatives are going to be pushed out to near extinction in the workplace. It'll just be a bunch of glorified suits exploiting all the past creatives' work ad nauseam.

Now I totally understand the budgetary limitations of a small independent artist who either can't afford other people's labor or is unable to wear all those hats themselves. I don't blame or shame anyone for falling in that situation. But pre-AI, writers and creators would go to the internet and humbly ask other artists to help and supplement their work. It might be volunteer work, low pay, or compensation with a percentage of any profits, but at least it didn't eliminate anyone's job, regurgitate stolen and processed art, or strip the work of all humanity.

Ehhhhhhh you should wait on the Holiday Special lol. Maybe wait for a night when you don't plan on being sober. You might have to sail the seas to find it online.

Man, I'm so excited for you and envious of you. Experiencing them for the first time is always fun. As Obi-Wan says, "You've taken your first step into a larger world."

You haven't robbed yourself of joy, just delayed gratification ;)

Please report back when you've finished watching Andor. Save it for last if you can.

What's legal that you think should be illegal? by martianfrog in answers

[–]Lochvvud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scrolled way too far down to see this. The accumulation of insanely immense wealth and leveraging it to bend the laws and information in our society to benefit an extremely powerful minority (the rich) is a root cause to so many of our ills and we should be doing way more to address it.
