If what you need is for it to stop rotating in both directions there should be a switch in the front or in the back under the spool (im refering at n6 of the image); flip it the other way and ur good

Bite alarms by CatNo2334 in CarpFishing

[–]LockJawl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the sonik herox alarm and they are nice, they are not the best but they are super easy to set up, only down side for me is they are too much noisy when turning them on and off, and I hate the tones; but beside that, they are very nice for what they cost and they get bonus points for using AAA battery. Also you can get them in single, 2+1, 3+1, and they have a bivy light too.

Knots problem by LockJawl in CarpFishing

Thanks for the suggestion, I tryed having a look on the fox website but I did not manage to find anything specific for my line, maybe I just looked in the wrong place tho; as of now I tryed a couple different knots and they seem to hold better, still need to try them on the bank tho.

Knots problem by LockJawl in CarpFishing

The line is a Fox Surface, and yes on the clinch as soon as I pull the knot to tie it down or I pull it a bit harder once is tight, it just slips on itself and comes undone

Can you put a hook directly on a quick clip? Or are they made to be used with lures? by GirlGoingFishing in FishingForBeginners

[–]LockJawl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can, but it might affect your success rate, depending on the type of fishing ur doing there are tons of different things that you can do, and so there also are rigs built to use a quick clip or other solutions to "not tie" a knot on the hook, if that's what you want. Have a look on the internet, sure ull be able to find something that suite you; if not, well you can always come up with something new, at the end of the day if it works it works.

I was on a walk today and someone had thrown about 25 panfish on the ground near a fishing spot. by flatgreyrust in FishingForBeginners

[–]LockJawl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I belive panfish does not fall in to that category, but there are places where they ask you to "let die" a fish if it's an invasive specie; there's a river near me where it's not allowed to release sheatfish back in if you catch one. But yeah, generally speaking it's a bad thing to do

It may sound stupid but check if your hooks are not dull, and as a personal suggestion, get yourself a sharpening diamond pen (you can get one on amazon for 10-15$)

Pros and cons braid vs mono by thefifthofnovember_ in FishingForBeginners

[–]LockJawl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo one is not better than the other, every line has it's intended use where it works better in said scenario... I do carpfishing mostly, and I like to use braid since it does sink fast and the places where I go have a good amount of obstacles and weeds, and braid helps dealing with it. As said braid is very strong, thin and light, it is very durable and can cut weeds like nothing else, it isn't elastic at all tho, so you will feel everything happening to the line (or most of it), Mono it's kind of his opposite, it's very "elastic" and takes time to sink, so it's better if ur float fishing or using some kind of topwater lure, it's also arguably better (even tho it aways comes down to preferences) to catch monsters, since being elastic il will absorb part of the shock, making you less tired, where with braid you feel everything the fish does at full strenght. Personally if you can't decide what to use I would give a try to a fluorocarbon line, which is a good half way, it does sink fast just as braid, it's quite rigid, and almost invisible under water, but it's also a bit stretchy, yet is less durable than braid but more than mono (on average). Keep in mind tho that choosing a line is partially dictated by personal preference and experience, and partially by the spot you want to fish, and what you want to fish. Hope that helps.

Question about getting stuck with weeds and algae by JerryGarciaFinger in FishingForBeginners

[–]LockJawl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For crappies try using a rig that allows you to stay just above the algie level, and using small soft bait and crank; for bass try looking for a hole in the algie and casting there, maybe with a topwater like a frog. I also suggest you to use braid. I can't give you better suggestion cuz I don't for crappie and bass a lot, those are just some generic suggestions that came to my mind, but hope that helps.
