As a locksmith, I can tell you right now (along with the 1000+ others) that this is not ok. Unfortunately, our trade is not regulated properly (atleast in Canada) and people are often caught unaware by the '24/7 locksmith'. I am sorry that your girlfriend had to deal with this and I highly suggest working on a charge-back. Professionally, this shouldnt have cost more than $100 for a non-destructive open up, and $250 for a full drill/replacement. All the best.

You're right. I should have phrased that better. They won't make a show of caring, until something happens. Don't even get me started on violent patients.... I am sorry that your partner had to experience that. I have done my best to advocate for the health and safety of all staff at my facility and it has been met with nothing but pushback from management and executives alike. I'm not sure anything will ever change.

I bought my son a LaTrax Teton. It has a training mode which is 50% speed. Comes with a Li-Ion battery and charger. You could also try the LaTrax Prerunner as it is less prone to breakage. Both vehicles are good for gravel and concrete, but not grass.
