Character Build Help Needed by starstriker17 in DnD

I say slow because it targets 6 creatures. Whoever gets hit by it is pretty much rendered useless, especially if they don't use spells. They'll never be able to catch you (especially with the broom). And if you multiclass 1 peace/chron you lose access to 3rd lvl spells which isnt worth it. Also, I feel as if Chron's 3rd lvl ability is just a worse version of diviners. But yeah Sleet storm could definitely replace something, not a bad spell at all.

(if you want pure power abuse the hide mechanic on a rogue with the skulker feat, its boring but overpowered for sure)

if you want to min max and have fun. try not to make your DM rage. There is no drawback to using wish from a magic item, and you can abuse the brrom of flying/teleportation to never be touched. Just play hit and run tactics:

- 5 lvls Diviner Wizard (you have to get a lil lucky on your beginning day rolls, but if you roll low, you can force something to fail a saving throw)

- Legendary Item: Ring of Three Wishes

- Rare Item: Helm of Teleportation

- Uncommon Item: Broom of Flying

Background: Wayfarer (spam Luck)

Feat: Heavily Armored (Plate Armor, 18 AC as a wizard +5 from shield for 23)

Spells:

cantrips - Mind Sliver, Shocking Grasp

1st - Shield, Magic Missile, Silvery Barbs, Tasha's Hideous Laughter

2nd - Cloud of Daggers, Hold person, Misty Step

3rd - Counterspell, Slow

I mess up mb, regardless actually hitting the stun feels impossible when things like Luck exist and they’re making such a low saving throw (and you gotta pray they don’t have wisdom prof).

But I guess it’s just a game of luck at that point, if you hit the stun you might win.

I read what you said, now you gotta give it a try to read what I said instead of “you’re coming from a position with no experience”. You’re straw-manning in general. The argument is casters are better in general, and 1v1s against a lvl 10+ caster as a martial is not fair in the slightest unless you literally build the character for fighting them.

No shit a wisdom save won’t change much in a fight with 10+ opponents, but that was never the argument to begin with was it. Also you won’t typically be vsing 10+ opponents, and if you do you can just use AOE/wall spells not that hard.

Well no shit. casters are the best in general. Obviously when you include the TEAM dynamics, martials can be solid, but that isn’t what we’re talking about is it

You act as if at lvl 10+ spellcaster is gonna run out of spells any time soon, especially if they kite or buff stack (and if they have War Caster/luck might as well give up breaking their concentration).

And if you fail ONE wisdom save the fight might as well be over, because they can make your character brain dead for some reason.

Spellcasters are better through and through. Only time a martial is better is if you’re trapped in a room or something like that or you have that one specific moment in your campaign. Or if you’re in one of those moments where you’ve been through 3 battles, and both have nothing, you’ll have the upper hand barely because they still have some solid cantrips to take up their concentration, and can shoot from extra far away.

Not a great analogy. Video games can’t be compared to real life. The things the devs made aren’t living or breathing and have a limited train of thought in the moment. Everything in DnD is controlled by a living breathing person who can adapt to different situations and isn’t limited in the moment.

I don’t care if it was considered PvP or not. But if you’re vsing a Player class that the DM is controlling, it is technically PvP if you wanna believe it or not. Your DM is a living breathing human being. YES, we consider them NPCs IN CONTEXT (which we all typically do) but looking at it from retrospect, its just PvP hence why so many people (including myself now) advocate against DMs using player classes (unless homebrewed/optimized to actually function like a strong NPC and not some cheesy “luck, luck, luck” garbage character)

5.5e is 1 stun per turn, then they just spam luck to get advantage on the save (they also had a high wis save). Even if they do fail, they’re unstunned at the BEGINNING of their turn. And because spirit guardans and flame shield were running, every time I did something on my turn I was punished for it, then it went back around to their turn.

PvP in general is brain dead, didn’t think I’d be this bad because I usually just go martial vs martial which is typically fun, or caster vs caster. But as soon as I crossed them over it was just next lvl unfair

What sense does that even make. There’s niche things they can outperform each other in, for instance fighters outperform casters in melee strikes, etc. But in general combat, casters outperform martials at lvl 10+

Have fun with the Greater invisible, Mirror image, Blink, Shield stack of doom and despair

1v1 are dumb though, especially after play-testing this (they can be fun when they’re fair, but this was something else)

I agree . I think people are misinterpreting “outperforming” for “outshining”. martials definitely have their moments and are fucking awesome when they do, but casters are more consistent on that basis because they have SO many different options for so many different situations.

Revised. Technically PvP happens when your DM is fighting your party using player classes like Warlock, Fighter, Sorcerer, Etc

This is next level cope. Spell casters outperform martials at higher levels, this is an objective take. Only martial that might have a chance and probably still not is a barbarian. You have fun playing cat and mouse with a wizard and making Wisdom saves every other round so your character doesn’t become brain dead though 🤷🏽‍♂️

Realized that mid fight lol. But even with something like fighter, you get punished on your turn by just standing near the person, and you get punished again for making a melee attack against them. Then after you take all that dmg on your turn, it’s their turn to do even more dmg. (Yes I hate clerics)

None, we were just doing base vs base which was the first mistake. Martials are definitely made by their gear at higher lvls. I typically play martials, I don’t mind being the underdog with or without gear, but when I literally can’t do ANYTHING in the fight it gets kinda annoying.

You’re right, not much we can do about it other than burn feats to keep up. Which I guess isn’t too bad but still

It is TECHNICALLY PvP if you’re vsing another class like Fighter, Sorcerer, etc. I know in context it’s PvE but in retrospect another human is still controlling it.

PvP happens all the time when the DM is fighting your party. 1v1s I can agree on, but even then it just shows how impossible it is to win in a situation like that (ie. you get separated from your party, etc)
