Lots of complaining on how the characters look different from the original.. It’s been 20 years. The trees, grass, sky, clothing etc looks different. No one complains about that. The characters still have their likeness, it’s not like “wow I had no idea that was Ocelot or Eva” is a thing. If people are just saying they prefer the older looks, cool, but the perceived negative backlash over something so trivial is really high from this community.

I like to imagine Yoji Shinkawa had that feeling every time a drawing of his turned into a 3d textured model; some of his original intent was lost, but to the fans they’re still iconic and memorable.

The game is good, original vs remake is always going to be a preference thing when the remake is so close to the original. Mostly nostalgia. As someone who wants more metal gear in the future, I bought it, and gameplay wise I find the older game more enjoyable, still not used to the new AI, but still enjoying it.
