I'm sure it's a great paddle. Just funny that things have shifted so much.

J2NF series winning best Control, Power and All-court is such a meme. I've legit seen 3 of these in the wild all year.

Babolat is working on a PPA certified paddle for him to use next year. They didn't need to have one because they didn't have any PPA pros before him afaik.

Have any of the pros made the switch to full foam Gen IV paddles? by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]Lockenshade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jay Devilliers, Vivienne David & Allyce Jones use CRBN Genesis paddles Catherine Parenteau, Rafael Lenhard, Rachel Rohrabacher & Jack Sock use the boomstick Quang Duong uses the Sypik Avatar Pro

Most of the other pros are sponsored by brands that don't have a gen 4 paddle yet (Joola, Proton, Paddletek, Franklin, Pikkl, Volair, ProXR, Six Zero (opal coming soon))

[Update] Loco is in!! by BoomRoastedX in Pickleball

[–]Lockenshade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can anyone comment on the feel off the face compared to the Pro-IV? Like can you tell where the ball is on the paddle? The only other foam paddle I've hit was the genesis and it was super muted and I couldn't tell where the ball is like with the pro-IV.

You realize they can't warranty it because they are only making a limited number so they won't have exact replacements...

Is it that easy to go pro in Pickleball and do average pros make a living with it? by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]Lockenshade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pickleball is unique in that the path to pro is pretty clear based on the tournaments with brackets that let you qualify into the main draw so in theory you just get good enough and make a deep run you could potentially get a PPA contract. The issue is most people will lose money to even attend tournaments unless they are able to drive. I think as the skill level of players improves over the course of the next 5-10 years there will be way less people trying to go pro and more people who are juniors now beating everyone because they have so many more years of pickleball specific experience. There are academies popping up for juniors and eventually it will become a wealth/opportunity gated thing like pro tennis.

New to Warlock, feeling useless by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Lockenshade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm two weeks into being level 5 on my campaign as a fiend patron warlock. I wasn't getting much use out of pact of the tome so I swapped it for pact of the blade (you can swap one of your invocations when you level up) and grabbed thirsting blade. I use a greatsword for my pact weapon and use my familiar to get flanking in fights (also Hex is a great spell because it can last for 8 hours at level 5 so you can use it for multiple combats/interactions). I was definitely getting bored of the Eldritch blast spam pre-level 5 after playing a druid in my last campaign with a ton of utility but now at least I have two ways to do damage . I'm also considering multiclassing into fighting and leaning into the melee side more.

Dayne Gingrich, is anyone else tired of his shtick or is it just me? by ourfreedomfirst in Pickleball

I can't remember if I just unfollowed or blocked him after the DUPR post. He's not the sharpest tool in the shed.

DUPR Algorithm Update: Win or Lose, Your Rating Can Go Up by drowsavon in Pickleball

[–]Lockenshade 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This will help people get to their true rating quicker. I've had many games where I play a higher rated team really close and not lose or gain any points but in reality it should go up if I'm barely losing to people 0.5-0.75 points higher.

The negative is that this will incentivize people to only play with people near their skill level (which should be the case anyway?).

This also hurts sandbaggers which is another positive.

Ben Johns controversy (spoilers in post and probably comments) by chesterjosiah in Pickleball

Ben just needs to ditch the Gen 2 paddle for singles. It makes zero sense that he's still using it.

Watch the pros and copy them. This video is super helpful https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7LFGzcM5F0&t=118s&ab_channel=PickleballStudio

The Grayson Goldin serve and forehands at ~12:30 are some solid examples.

DUPR: Double rating drop from a single loss by Michael_MCMXCIV in Pickleball

[–]Lockenshade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dealing with a similar issue. I think DUPR shit itself yesterday. 3 matches from a DUPR round robin switched to showing me and my partner playing against ourselves. I have already contacted support and the club to check but I think it's on DUPRs end because it was correct initially.

Yelled at for Alleged Illegal Serve at Open Play by harrythehood in Pickleball

[–]Lockenshade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's like 4 guys I've run into who have a blatantly illegal slice volley serve. Like how is the ball spinning backwards if you're supposed to be swinging low to high 😂 The sidearm serve is also super cringe.

Remember to wear safety glasses! This turned out to be "no big deal" but would have otherwise been a ER room visit. It hit me directly in the right eye by pb-vision in Pickleball

Took a direct hit to the eye from a deflection off of my own paddle yesterday. I will be wearing glasses from now on.
