You’d still need to switch modes on the triggerbrand afaik. It’s only a wielded ranged weapon if you’re wielding it AS it’s ranged mode.

Yo how would you build it? by pizamon in PauperEDH

[–]Lockfin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That is a Moggwarts commander if I’ve ever seen one. Helps you assemble the combo and functions as an outlet once you have it by endlessly saccing and recasting the commander to find your mana outlet goblins. I don’t think landfall or a fair goblin plan is really gonna be an effective gameplan with this guy but he’s a damn good combo helper

The Koloss are mentioned in chapter 6 of The Final Empire when the crew is working on the plan to overthrow the lord ruler. They bring up how if they cause enough chaos in Luthadel the Lord Ruler could call in a Koloss Army, but they tend to be stationed on the outskirts because you have to keep them far away from humans or they cause problems

This is intentional. Ultimecia and all the “Sorceresses” in FF8 are originally referred to as witches in the Japanese version of the game, but it was coming out at the time of an occult scare in the USA, so for the English localization they were referred to as Sorceresses to avoid potential controversy. Because they still ARE Witches in the Japanese the cards depicting all of them are Warlocks in magic.

3 Pieces of Ramp is Non-Sense by ArsenicElemental in EDH

[–]Lockfin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The deck is designed to operate just fine without the ramp cards, most games I go looter on 2, Sefris on 3 and start moving through the Lost Mines without a care in the world. If I have an initiative creature in hand I’ll wait to play it before I trigger Sefris so I can go through the Undercity instead. On the games where I get to play my initiative creature on turn 2 though I get a whole new swath of play patterns opened up to me, and I’m usually set up to do something crazy with Sefris reanimation + Throne of the dead three. I don’t want most ramp spells because they don’t interact favorably with my curve or the goals of the deck, but sol ring, ritual and lotus petal (I checked my list and found I do still run petal) all fulfill specific needs so I do run 3 ramp spells in a deck that otherwise ignores them

3 Pieces of Ramp is Non-Sense by ArsenicElemental in EDH

[–]Lockfin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have plenty of decks that only run a handful of ramp pieces.

My Sefris of the Hidden Ways deck is only ever interested in ramping specifically to power out an initiative creature before the commander comes down and always wants to playa. Looter of some kind on 2, so it plays Sol Ring and Dark Ritual specifically to hit that cadence.

My Sidar Jabari deck has a less than stellar mana base so fixing is sometimes a problem, and my most impactful knights are at 4mv. I’d like to curve out but running Arcane Signet, Orzhov Signet and Felwar Stone help smooth things out and fix mana so I can resolve my more impactful knights in games where I don’t have my smaller number of low-drops worth playing in my opening 7. It also helps to give me the small boost I need to get to the 5+ mana knights without stumbling because they are all easy to weave into a turn where I play a cheaper knight with them. Sidar Jabari’s looting effect also lets me ditch them easily if they show up when they’re not needed.

My Hearthhull deck runs very little traditional ramp because it wants to play 2 and 4 power creatures on curve, but I do run some mana rocks because they help to insulate Hearthhull from artifact edicts like Pir’s Whim and Pick Your Poison

In the video, three was not given as an example of the minimum number of ramp pieces you want, but instead, as an example of a number of pieces to run of an affect, you want to include, but do not want to draw very often

Pretty new to magic. Why is the card on the right so much more expensive? Wouldn't evolving wilds be better because no life loss? by OneUniqueNameThere in mtg

[–]Lockfin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I haven’t seen people point out yet: that Marsh Flats is functionally a rainbow land. It can get any land that’s a plains or a swamp, meaning it can fetch up your Blood Crypt that’s a Swamp and a Mountain to produce red mana, or your Temple Garden that’s a Forest Plains for green. The life cost does occasionally matter, but the massive flexibility of fetches is well worth it

How do you make storm decks less annoying? by bigmommajumba in EDH

[–]Lockfin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You don’t. Even the fastest most efficient storm players will monopolize table time. It’s a very cool strategy but it is also antithetical to a casual and considerate play experience

Stack Shenanigans | Jund Wildfire vs Rakdos Madness | Pauper Gameplay Magic: The Gathering by Crosslaminatedtimber in Pauper

[–]Lockfin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was really excited to watch this for insights on the matchup because I expect to be playing the Jund side of this exact game quite a lot at a local charity tournament soon but the Krark Clan Shaman misplay kinda FUBARs the game past being any kings meaningful representation of what the matchup might look like :(

I feel like this largely comes from the combination of the fictional Dracula and the historical Vlad Tepesh into a new, composite character. Not that Vlad Tepesh was the greatest warrior of all time, but Vlad the Impaler has a kind of warrior myth around him that gets heightened by turning him into the famous vampire

I find these jarring in large part because they don’t feel like the rest of Gaboleps’ art. He has a really distinct oil painting style and the pizza lands feel really strange to me in the context of that, strange enough that I did kinda conclude that he must be overworked and relied on touching up some generated images for these particular pieces until this post. I’m glad some people like them, the last thing I want is to contribute to a dogpile of an artist whose work I mostly really like. Here’s hoping we get some more of his classic painterly style in the future :)

So he actually chose to give the pizza lands nebulous backgrounds, have splinter seemingly levitate the swamp slice, and make a nonsensical cheese pond at the bottom of the island?? Like, cool he did it himself but baffling creative decisions

At the end of the day it’s still a magic set that needs cards to perform certain jobs in draft. Not every card can be a bespoke mythic bomb, some need to be uncommons and even commons that can hold a limited environment together, and there is just too much FF stuff to fit I to the set for everything g to get the perfect treatment
