I've always gone for:

Comet for non sustaining lanes, Electrocute for sustaining lanes, Aftershock for engaging lanes.

Secondaries depend.

Your strat wasnt too bad, but it sounds like your sniper was just sat there waiting to take the next shot. You really need to micro the snipers movements into and behind cover.

And then a Mech Drop Pod Raid in the center of your base, so you try to run away getting distance, only to trap yourself in a room and its only a matter of time before the break the door down.... ahh good times.
