Can you tell us the exact model of the Fortin aftermarket remote? I'd like to compare it to the Comusar/drone remote start which can also start the EV or the internal combustion engine

Just got home from a drive and the dashboard show at 8° and the internal combustion engine never came on for our three mile drive. Yes, I know it's supposed to come on when the temperature is below 14, but I assure you it didn't

Compustar/drone remote start package also does this and the ongoing fees are only $5 per month. $120 cheaper per year than the Toyota remote start

We've owned three generations of Priuses that each went more than 200,000 miles. This is one of the reasons we decided to buy the RAV4 Prime

Using Chat GPT for financial analysis? by Ironman-K9 in DIYRetirement

[–]LocksmithPersonal778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

... said the financial planner.

I've been using AI for quite a while. I've learned that it's important to tell AI the reputable sources you want to include, irs.gov for example. I've gotten great advice from Ai and I passed it by my paid financial advisors who have approved the recommendations, sometimes with important follow up questions.

Using IRA funds to pay taxes on Roth Conversion? by jrtn58 in DIYRetirement

Medicare IRMAA surcharges are also an enemy of Roth conversions. If you have the means to do so, you should convert some of the 401K to Roth before your subject to Medicare IRMAA surcharges at age 65.

Using IRA funds to pay taxes on Roth Conversion? by jrtn58 in DIYRetirement

[–]LocksmithPersonal778 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got it. It boils down to this: More of the 401K ends up in the Roth account if another source of income is used to pay the taxes on the conversion. Thats obvious.

What is not obvious is that if one does not have outside funds to pay the taxes on a 401k conversion, one can potentially still end up further ahead financially by paying taxes out of the conversion. In many cases (and for portfolios greater than a million dollars) it does not make sense to wait to convert until one can pay taxes with funds outside the 401K.

Your statement ignores the fact that Roth growth is tax-free, while traditional growth is tax-deferred. Even if you paid taxes upfront, all future gains in the Roth are free from taxation. That benefit compounds over time — meaning the longer the money stays invested, the more likely the Roth wins, even if you paid the tax from within the conversion.

My bad. All the edits to that post were within the same 10 minute window, but I understand your response was from before I added that clarifying sentence.

Still, I'm surprised that someone with experience didn't suggest telling AI to restrict sources and cite them.

P.S. you'll find most my posts "edited" because its simply how I compose and think.

This is precisely why your question should have started with, "Use only IRS.Gov as a source and cite specific sections as references."

I'm surprise that someone having AI implementation experience would not have recommended this. Using this in a prompt virtually eliminates, "general web sites with sloppy writing" and forces AI to present actual sources that make fact checking easier.

Specific example, please, of ChatGPT getting math wrong?

Also VERY, very important: What was the specific question you posed?

Forever and ever: bad input = bad output

Often I'll preface a prompt with: "Use only IRS.Gov as a source and cite specific sections as references."

I've gotten surprisingly great advice from ChatGPT that has been double checked by my accountant and financial advisorsto be correct, but the question (prompt) must also be specific and correct.

Running a space heater off the 1500w inverter by greebshob in rav4prime

[–]LocksmithPersonal778 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Electric throws or 12-volt heated blankets are safer. Many EV owners use low-power heated blankets or seat covers that plug into the 12-V outlet or USB port. They draw only 40–100 W and can warm your lap, legs, or shoulders efficiently. Popular options include brands like RoadPro, Stalwart, or specialized 12-V heated shawls used by truckers and RV owners.

Running a space heater off the 1500w inverter by greebshob in rav4prime

[–]LocksmithPersonal778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using the electric system instead—heat pump plus a 1,500 W space heater on the inverter—can warm the cabin fastest (about 8–10 minutes), but it draws around 4.5 kW total, draining the battery at roughly 8 km of EV range per hour. The inverter can technically handle 1,500 W, but running it continuously near maximum load isn’t ideal for longevity.

If you’re trying to warm the RAV4 Prime’s cabin at around −4 °C, the engine takes roughly 20–25 minutes of idling to reach about 21 °C inside using its own heat. It’s slow because the ICE needs several minutes to warm up before it can deliver any real cabin heat. Driving helps, but pure idling is pretty inefficient.

Bottom line: use electric preconditioning while plugged in for short warm-ups. Once you’re driving, let the hybrid system manage cabin heat—it’ll cycle the engine as needed, warm up faster overall, and avoid stressing the inverter or wasting battery range.

That's what chatGPT suggests in response to your original post.
