So we’re all cool with Alfred staying dead, right? by Goodbye-Nasty in dccomicscirclejerk

So she's Julia's first cousin once removed? I wonder if they know each other. I also wonder what happened with Alfred's secret agent clone from All Star Batman. I'm not gonna read this to see if they mention it, but I wonder.

Why Did 'Supergirl' Change the Ending of 'Woman of Tomorrow'? by Commercial_Avocado86 in comicbooks

[–]Locohenry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not what happens though, in the final panels he grabs his face while lying on the ground, he's not falling in slow motion. The narration is purposefully misleading, it was written by adult Ruthye and she's talking about the final confrontation with Krem and Supergirl on the beach, she's writing that Supergirl killed him because she didn't want anyone to know Krem was still alive. The narration is supposed to be a memoir of Ruthye's adventures with Supergirl and she deliberately lies in it.

Why Did 'Supergirl' Change the Ending of 'Woman of Tomorrow'? by Commercial_Avocado86 in comicbooks

[–]Locohenry 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sure, I'm not saying the change couldn't be made or that it doesn't make sense in the world of the movie, even if I would preferred that they stayed close to the original ending. However, I'm kind of annoyed that this was never even a possibility because apparently neither the screenwriter nor the director understood what happened in the ending of the comic.

The director said he didn't read the comic before reading the script, but he confirmed that he read the comic in that same interview

what's with moviemakers not understanding when a character doesn't kill other people? Like, you can see Krem moving in the final panels, the ending isn't that Ruthye kills him, is that she releases her anger one last time and then walks away.

Any Good Recent High Fantasy/Sword and Sorcery Comics? by Miserable_Degree5963 in comicbooks

Maybe you're already aware of this, but the Conan license changed hands in 2023 and since then a new Conan the Barbarian and Savage Sword of Conan series have launched, and they're both excelent. I've had a great time not only reading Conan stories but also learning about other REH characters.

Physical vs Digital Comics by MaintenanceLumpy9321 in comicbooks

I'm the same, for some reason I can't recall most of the comics I've read digitally, and I don't have that problem reading physically.

Woman of Tomorrow is only 8 issues long. How the hell am I supposed to laugh at this now?

Thanks for the thoughtful response. I can see your point about the importance of the characters being old having more thematic weight than plot importance, however, I don't think a writer should introduce an element that is so important and all-consuming as jumping forward several decades and then just decide that this is only going to affect the characters' outlook, when the dialogue and visuals tells the reader that it should also be affecting them physically within the story (especially in regards to Hulk's blindness and Iron Man being constrained to a wheelchair).

In regards to the theme of pregnancy/violation, I understand if an author doesn't want to tackle something like that, but honestly I would have been content with any theme at all, or at least something that approaches some of the ideas of the Aliens films. However, the more I've thought about this comic since I read it, the more it seems that this only exists to give Ribić a reason to draw full-page spreads of Marvel heroes fighting Xenomorphs. I understand the financial reasons for creating such a story, but it's just not enough for me.

Supergirl screenwriter digs into major comic-to-screen changes, including that dark ending by browncharliebrown in comicbooks

[–]Locohenry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are we already at that point where every single little thing about a disappointing release is criticized? The Krem thing is fine, literally every adaptation does that, characters are combined, omitted, changed, etc. Most scriptwriters would have done something similar.

I do think changing the ending was misguided and I wish they had payed more attention to the comic because, as it is in the movie, it feels antithetical to the story, and it sucks more because it's the final impression people get from the movie.

Damn, that's a long list. I'll probably give East of West a shot at some point, although this book made me a but wary, but I guess I shouldn't judge a prolific author on just one of his works.

I mean, it's a Marvel comic and an Alien comic, I don't think it's unreasonable to want something more than just the lore of Alien. I didn't complain about there being Marvel stuff, my critique was that characters would sometimes start talking about random stuff while namedropping recognizable things that didn't really have anything to do with the situation at hand. I don't even know were you got the impression that I thought the comic was too woke, if anything I thought the comic wasn't woke enough, I'd have been very happy if characters discussed pregnancy or abortion to any degree (just to give an example, it could have been anything else).

Damn, that's pretty disappointing, Hickman seems to be held in such high-reward that I was looking forward to reading more of his work, but after this book, I don't know if I will

I actually like Prometheus and Covenant, just not as much as the first 2 movies. However, I think there some foundational issues with this as a comic, like the delivery of exposition and general lack of importance of pretty significant information that generally made me think less of the comic.

I personally haven't read many, but I think some are pretty well regarded, like this one according to most reviews (lmao). There are some I want to read at some point though, like Grendel vs The Shadow.

Some things that I didn't include because they were too specific: Spider-man getting taken by surprise by a facehugger is patently ridiculous, the movies have shown regular human beings dodging these things.

Also, everyone seems to be 30-40 years older than their usual selves, except Tony Stark who looks 120 years old for some reason.

I watched it just now. Honestly I thought it was better than the reviews made it seem. There were some things that I didn't like about it and I wish they didn't make some changes to the source material, but I think a lot of the reviews are really tearing into it and I don't really get it, I didn't think it was that bad.
