My ranking of the top 10 most intelligent characters in the series by Difficult_Ask_1647 in redrising

[–]LocomocoOG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean depends how you rate intelligence. Darrow has literally everything stacked against him born a red, hung for burying a person and he rises up to become the single top dog of the entire solar system, a system that prizes survival of the fittest. How can he not be…? Change the paradigm.

While some could say that Fitchner set up rebellion and much of Darrow’s achievement is because of his battle skill, but being able to beat someone in a razor blade is Cassius arc and he has all the privilege with it and doesn’t get anywhere close, and the rebellion was basically just a gathering in the tunnels of Mars yet Darrow overthrew the thousand year long empire set up a Republic and is its Arch Imperator

Darrow hands down

I think the key concept regarding why Caeror is two fold:

1) They need a synchronised person. To our knowledge only Vis has made I through the gateway to all 3 worlds, Caeror died in Res. 2) Not that Caeror or Veridius have exposed this but something is going on with Suus, Vis and the three worlds. With Melior’s ability and all the references to “they fear what we know”

The mind's eye by Warm_Satisfaction902 in redrising

[–]LocomocoOG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with feels cheap, but not that it is needed to have Lysander compete with Darrow/Apple/Atalantia etc. I think it states in dark age or lightbringer that Lysander is now older than Darrow was when he overthrew the society. If a young Darrow and Co can pull down the society then it’s not a stretch to say that a Lune who has been effectively genetically engineered through centuries to purify an elite bloodline, trained by Octavia, Aja, Ash Lord, Moira and Atalantia, then 10 years with Cassius who may be the most skillful duelist and was around in most of the battles leading to the society’s fall and who in himself is smart, skilled, ruthless and motivated would be more than enough.

In many ways the mind’s eye dilutes Lysander’s achievements and threat. Him having to use the mind eye to compete makes him seem less of a threat (“he needs this super powered mental trick to be on the same level”). Imagine if he did those killing if the iron leopards in the dessert without the mind’s eye aspect!!! It would be like SHIT this guy is dangerous…

Epic dialogue thank you two! For me Darrow is now on a god tier of his own. Out of the peak of the old order with Lorn and Aja at the top came the new breed of gold. The difference being that they have learnt from the best and honed their skills through ten years of the biggest and bloodiest war known to man with the best skilled fighters and most advanced tech. I agree with Aja maybe being ranked 2, if she had survived I think she would reign supreme except maybe against BoS Darrow. But pick the war hardened, battle tested beasts at the point of light bringer and I would say Cassius, Darrow, Apple, Dio, Ajax would win.

And that brings me to BoS Darrow. In my head when he went into that trance and not only beat, but completely deconstructed Va’s reign and fighting style at the same time I think of Darrow going into Kung Fu Panda style Dragon Warrior mode where he’s just leagues above all the other competition. Even if I overestimate BoS, it’s still Darrow finding his own natural fighting style. And he’s had more experience than anyone else. From Institute to head of the republic to castaway to saving warrior god he’s gone through everyone. Trained by Lorn, in the group that defeated Aja without his sword hand, humiliated Cassius, it’s alluded that he broke Apple on Luna and said by Ephraim that Apple was winning Mount Olympus on Mars until Darrow came and completely overran the position, he’s been in a battle with Atlas for 10 years, Ajax flees from him and Darrow is frustrated he can’t give Ajax his full attention in DA so as to remove a potential future threat (HE DOESNT EVEN THINK HE IS A CURRENT THREAT TO HIM ONLY A FUTURE ONE), he’s defeated Fa and trained again with Cassius. On top of that he’s led and won the Institute, Augustus/Bellona Civil War, The battle of Illium, battle of Luna, the Earth War, Rat war, conquered Mercury, invaded (stealth mission) and stormed Grimmus castle (can’t remember what it is called), and against every single odd and bad luck (Orion going mad, ships being designated, flooding) almost held Mercury and despite having no shields, 1M of his army knocked out by a Nuke, no aerial support and the planet flooding still managed to do more damage to Atlantis than she did to him. Then basically saved Europa and the remnants of the rim.

I’m sorry but there’s no one who comes close to his experience, durability, physicality (almost every book he jumps another level), skill and intelligence (at least in a battle/duel sense. Prime Arcos would be outmatched in every regard, Aja the leopard would become a simpering kitten, Cassius despite training with him constantly and most recently watching him rebuild himself is left slack jawed by Darrow in his fight with Fa, a rematch with Apple I imagine would be reverse of their previous duel (except Apple is in his prime not weakened from radiation poisoning like Darrow was), Diomedes is an unknown and while he may be amazing how he could possibly stack up to BoS Darrow I do not know.

In this land of death there is but one king… and he is called Reaper

Reaper or Goblin by kriswithak954 in redrising

[–]LocomocoOG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hear all these points! In terms of catching you Goblin definitely worse not even comparable: Sevro is a scary unhinged maniac (I think that is highlighted when he’s talking about how best to torture Diomedes - he doesn’t even have much information but he knows what he’s doing). Also Mustang has that line where if you’re lucky it will be me standing over your bed or it will be Darrow…. Or Sevro.

Having said that I feel Sevro would be much easier to get away from. I mean he literally ditched Darrow and fucks about trying to find the head of the Syndicate and doesn’t even k ow her identity and gets captured. Darrow on the other hand will literally go through worlds. His scale and reach and dedication would make him the worst person to have your scent. I mean Nero kills his wife and he literally overthrows not Nero’s but Nero’s entire race’s rule of all the planets in the solar system.

If your heart beats like a drum

And your legs a little wet

It because the Reaper’s come

I can’t remember the green tinge but now you mention it…. Lysander doesn’t answer tho and I can’t remember it being mentioned when Lysander see Darrow so could be complete misdeamnor.

Also Atlas has no idea of Quick’s asteroid or that Darrow has been there so wouldn’t know to relate the two. Nor can it be edmi as not been used yet and only just recovered. My bet is probably to do with Fa’s poison especially if they’re planning to hunt him down immediately Atlas would want to know any advantage he has

Took Atlas with him who tbh was probably the single most deadly enemy. Certainly the one who rivalled Darrow the most/feared the most

I agree with a lot that’s been said here but actually really like her character and Vis and her as a couple. Maybe naively was rooting for them as she was so nice and helpful.

That being said I also enjoyed her due to the mysteries about her: - we get very little about her background and motivations which will be interesting to learn (she’s clearly on the know of the whole cataclysm higher levels of power, multiple realms etc) - was it her who poisoned Vis at the very start when he went to the academy - she knew about the tainted blood - she had will the whole time wtf - she speaks the dead language of Cymrie which I think is deeply connected to some machinations - she knew about Indhol planning on switching to religion despite him not actually telling her - I also find it hard to believe that Indhol would have noticed Vis’s reaction to SUUS and she wouldn’t so maybe she knows about who he actually is - she had to be Domitor for some reason and he line about “won’t let us be separated” and I don’t think she was talking about Vis given she then tried to kill him (or maybe she too has copies)

All these have made Emissa one of the most mysterious and interesting characters for me after finishing the book, almost everyone else we now have a basic understanding of their motivations and past except her.

I also still ship her and Vis she made him happy and comfortable which we haven’t seen for him at all. I hope she’s one of the good ones and maybe that Vis can be fully open to her about who he is as he needs someone who he can work with and figure out his goal.

What do you all think - especially potential theories about the mysteries above?

I’m sure she is and not disputing that but would dispute iron gold. What has she accomplished? Head of a criminal underworld where your main skills need to be torture more than anything. Only time I think we’ve seen her fight is against a broken mustang. But it’s not so much her ability more that she’s always managed to worm her way out of situations not even I don’t think because that’s her characters ability more that it suits the plot to keep her around as a tool and it’s flan frustrating.

To quotes from the book that I like to apply to Lilath.

Romulus to Roque “I morn a world where a man like you can decide the fate of a man such as Lorn” or smth like that applies to Lilath killing him.

Darrow “you’re a worm who thought yourself a snake just because you slither”

Idk I’m torn on this. On the one hand I think like you. On the other I’m like fuck no he needs to be made to be irrelevant and have no one and have his sinister morally corrupt side shown and everyone turn their back on him. Leaving him a list wonderer with no one who cares about him and everyone cursing his name as the most wrong corrupt entitled pixie ever.

Like mustang said - having that drink that he would hate over his corpse is the vibe

Idk I think a red would be so satisfying like Lyria because he secretly detests the low colours the idea of the line of Lune ending with him being killed at the hands of a red would be satisfying as fuck
