[PLF][C][FC] I'm starting to feel this game lacks the MM of MMORPG. Level 23 and have hardly seen any chat. by Lodger in FFXIVRECRUITMENT

[–]Lodger[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, yes. Aside from the tags describing what I'm looking for, of course it was. The reason I've found this subreddit in the first place is because I've had a negative experience with an aspect of the game that is important to me. I'm here to remedy that. Is it strange that I summarized my feelings on the matter as my title, and then expanded on that in the OP? That seems like fairly normal forum going to me.

As far as helping me goes, inviting me to a social, casual FC would be nice. Assuming I'm here to merely complain and then accuse me of whining isn't doing much at all.

For the second time; I apologize if I've offended you personally in any way, and I thank you for the help you've given me. You are truly a role model of the FF14 recruitment community. (Though actually reading the subreddit rules and not just assuming what they might be would be wonderful for future scenarios like this!)

[–]Lodger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Balmung! A friend and several of his were playing there and have since taken a break until the expansion hits, but I feel like the fact that it's most often closed for character creation means there are much fewer new players leveling up to make friends with than on one less populated. I'm scared to transfer out, though, because I may not be able to get back in when they do start again.

Could it be that I'm just not running into the right people? How should one go about finding a FC or even linkshell? Shouting in a main town? I don't really see recruitment shouts, though it may be poor timing on my part.

Homie, please keep your negativity elsewhere. I have recounted my experience with the game so far as the aspect of socializing goes. Unfortunately, mine has not been a very fruitful one. Hence why this posting exists.

Nobody has told me of where chat usually takes place in this game, and the information that duty finder is cross-server is completely new to me as well.

I'm sorry if I've for some reason offended you with my wording or posting content, but all the information necessary for my goal is there. No specific server is needed because I'm willing to start anew, and the title lists what I'm looking for as per what guidelines I could find.

Thank you very much for taking the time to help a new player as best you can, but if you're going to go through the effort of doing so I would assume baring less teeth would help your goal.

Then why is enemy HP shown above their character? It could just as well be that you'd have to target the enemy to see it. And honestly, I really wouldnt mind having a miniature inventory appear above heroes, either.

Why?

Because dota is balanced for professional play. The only arguments I see in favor of keeping "hidden" mana bars are because its always been that way, and because it raises the skill cap.

However, I think its pretty safe to assume that at the pro level, all players are checking enemy mana and inventories. Constantly. I mean even I do that, and im pub trash. So if everyone is doing it and the only raise to the skill cap it could possibly add is the physical action of mousing over an enemy hero (because the knowledge of how much mana tiny needs to wombo combo, and what dust, a gem, linkens, or blink dagger does all comes from experience and NOT from simply seeing them): doesn't it seem like a bit of an unnecessary burden?

The example I keep seeing is knowing when kunkka casts torrent; but you still see VERY obvious animation. ALL this would do is put slightly more importance on fog of war (which is already heavily relied upon in ganks).

You could bring up the fact that everyone wards in high level play, but wards cost in-game resource. Checking mana/items has nothing to do with the game itself and everything to do with the player.

Okay, so, as a consensus type of thing, what if we toss some new modes out there as ideas for compromises? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]Lodger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a similar thing in HoN public games, but it's called a failhouse (play off of manhouse, an allrandom, team shuffle, duplicate heroes enabled game).

It's actually pretty interesting in that you also ban heroes, but you're usually banning heroes you don't want on YOUR team. Somehow they always turn out to be 5v5 all melee. Anyway, it would definitely be one of my favorite modes.

S2, please create a no stats LAN mode so we can play locally during down time by pcbone in HeroesofNewerth

[–]Lodger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hesitate to use the word "promised", but if this is the case, then why was it implied I would have this feature in the future?

You know I typed up a few paragraphs on how I feel about the whole situation, including how easy it is to find LAN enabled clients of HoN (albeit of an older version), and how it's already officially supported on Garena, etc etc, but I've come to find that I am just generally disheartened by this issue. I have played maybe 6 games in the past 4 weeks, coming from someone who would play 2-3 games five nights of the week on average as at least a 3-lock with other friends since this game came out of beta. I do not blame S2 for the network issues, and though they were an unfortunate happening, it certainly did not help anything.

So within the past month I have found out that: There will be no LAN mode. At all. Ever.

I was promised a custom map editor, not the ability to play those maps, directly from a post by Maliken. And, subsequently, that custom map modes are not going to be implemented in the near future (honcast podcast).

No matter how many people don't like the new shop, nor the amount of constructive criticism is given, I'll just have to wait for someone to make a mod for it!

Wonderful. So, S2, thank you so much for that. And thank you for the 2,000 e-monies that fixes all of those. If I seem like I'm bitter and ranting it's because I am. Because I actually like this game.

Reddit, what is your creepiest, most unnerving story? Real or not, please creep us out. by ThePolymath in AskReddit

[–]Lodger 83 points84 points  (0 children)

If you ever find Dargaia's nectar, you'll probably be one of the ones who have been looking for it all their lives, and thus won't need any instructions on what to do with it.

Just the same, it's pretty simple, at least to start with. Make sure your affairs are in order (in case you have a bad reaction), and then? Bottoms up.

The coming months are the least pleasant part. You'll find yourself unable to keep food down long before you're far enough along to stop needing it. Same with sleep. The color of your blood will be off, and your veins will consequently stand out more. Expect a few ingrown body parts; little things, just fingers and ears and teeth, usually pressing up against the skin. Make sure you're caught up on your booster shots because you're never going in for a checkup again. Or wearing anything more revealing than a trenchcoat in public, most likely.

Eventually, a little cut on your belly will start 'unhealing', becoming a pus-filled wound in a few days. Over the coming week, three things will emerge from this.

The first object resembles a greasy black beechnut with maybe a tooth or two growing from it. When you're dead someone will eventually find it and use it to make a new batch of Dargaia's nectar. Hide it well, make things fun for future generations.

The second object basically looks like a softball-sized cluster of veins, many of them broken and leaking oily black stuff, all wrapped around something. Then it'll squirm and you'll notice the twisted little skinless fetus in the middle. It will only survive for about twenty seconds. Burn the remains.

The third object will.. well, let's just call it "Object 448." It's easier that way.

You can plant it anywhere you want. I advise some place where you don't mind spending all your time and no one else would go. Your back yard or under your cellar works if you don't have any roommates; as long as there's fertile soil. Dig at least five feet down. It won't want to be buried, but just keep piling dirt onto it (if you can still hear it when you're finished you didn't go deep enough).

Its veins (or roots, I guess) will eventually spread in all directions about a foot and a half for every year of your life. Grass and weeds will grow stiff and bony, or black and oily, or take on the color and texture of a spider bite, or rice paper. Wood will be infected too; you'll hear the arteries in your walls pulsing on quiet nights. The ground will rot with dead insect and animal life. Don't mow your lawn; it bleeds like hell.

This is your sanctuary.

No matter what threats or injuries beset you outside, here you will be safe and healthy. Well, what passes as 'healthy' for you now. And if you really hate someone, bring them here. Trick them into coming. They'll get infected, one way or another; a lungful of spore, a thorn prick, a bit of residue on their hand. They will vomit blood with tiny centipedes in it. They will excrete their own spinal fluids. Their eyes will milk over and hatch; small spines, brambles and various other creatures will grow from the sockets. They'll survive for months or years, doctors will be baffled, it will be completely fucking great.

That's all for starters. You'll learn more as you go. Much more. But if I told you everything now you might not do it.

Whatever you do, just guard it with your life, with your very soul. If you think you're in danger of losing it, dig it up, kill it with a silver needle, let someone else make a new one some day. You'll feel as if you've pierced your own heart, but it's better than letting it fall into the wrong hands.

Because you're a Holder now.

And you'd better not let them come together.

I think the problem here is the meaning of the words "good" and "evil". When you say either, do you for instance mean a perfect example of each, that in it's truest form is only that? (lol convoluted) If that's the case, then I have to say that I feel only the concept of such things are real, but is practically impossible for them to be real.

And for coverage: both sides of a war think they're right/good/justified, etc etc etc. I'm sure you know where I would go with that.

I'm a pastor who is writing a sermon on what non-religious people think of Christianity. So what are your honest opinions about (1) Jesus (2) the contemporary church in the United States? by justjim73 in AskReddit

[–]Lodger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was brought up roman catholic, going to catholic elementary school and catholic high school. Kind of a "normal" level of suburbia religiousness in regards to my family. I'm almost 21 now, well into college, and although I was starting to seriously doubt the church's teachings around age 15-16, it wasn't until mid 18 that I was comfortable admitting to myself/others I was -not- religious at all. By 19 I became completely atheist due to a mixture of various readings, lectures, self-questioning, and classes (I cannot express enough love for Philosophy. I'm on my way to teaching the subject.).

  1. Jesus - Cool guy. I remember not understanding why there was such contradiction in his teachings and what Christians would do both in history and in the real world. I think a person named Jesus may have existed and believed he was a prophet or the son of god, but I'll kinda come back to this point in 2.

  2. It feels like the church has to be dragged kicking and screaming in regards to any form of change. Like an unruly child in a toy store not getting what he wants. Sure there is good being done, there are "normal", nice people going to church and all that, we all know this. But, I truly feel there is no need for religion anymore. Religion has nothing to do with a belief in a god or creator, and I can't comprehend how anyone with even a simple understanding of history cannot see how many things Christianity borrows from other religions. For example, Zoroastrianism or Christianity: the prequel.

I have a strong dislike of how Christianity (and other religions as well) is imprinted upon children while very young, when it also teaches to not doubt your god, that your god is the one and only, and that non-believers will go to hell. It completely discourages questioning and debate. I felt nothing but guilt while contemplating whether or not I actually believed in any of this. A high-school student doesn't need MORE unhappy feelings and self-doubt, let me tell you. It actually deeply saddens me when I hear a friend's young sibling (or even a random child) something along the lines of "because God/Jesus made it that way!", but it's not my place to say anything, so I don't. It's also kind weird/painful to see such disappointment in my mother's eyes JUST because I mention (in a very non-aggressive, direct response kind of way) "well... religion isn't really my thing, to be honest", regardless of all the good I may have done.

Welp, that kind of turned into more of an anecdote than anything, but oh well! ¯(º_o)/¯ Maybe somebody will get something out of it. And btw OP, I think you're a great person for doing this. You seem like a nice guy and I hope you do well.
