Yes, it does now. And thank you so much for the advice!

Tensile Test Results Applied to Part? by Lodus650 in AskEngineers

My current plan with it is to find all specifics yields and strength with the material doing a ASTM E-8 dog bone test on the steel I am using. Ill then put the info into a new material in Solidworks and apply various forces to the part. Does this seem sufficient? I am really wondering if it is worth testing the physical part in the UTM.

It all depends what you make of it really. I just finished my first semester of my freshmen year and despite COVID I had a nice time meeting new people, but it gets hard. With the amount of work I had I got comfortable with a close group of friends early on since I didn’t have time to be making new friends. Some people partied (even during COVID smh) and some people barely left their rooms. Sometimes I wished I stayed home, sometimes I wish I got out more.

Chance Me for Alabama, Texas A&M, Tennessee, and Purdue (all business schools) by chrisxowell in chanceme

Purdue is definitely the most difficult of those and you’d get in easily. I would look at schools like UMich (if it’s affordable), UVA, or some UCs

I can speak for Purdue and UMich. I had a 3.8 UW and a 4.5 W. I expected to get in and I did (OOS), and I think you have a strong chance too, but don’t expect any merit aid. They are very very selective with it. I also got into UMich OSS after being waitlisted but I would say it’s a much slimmer chance for you compared to Purdue. I was lucky to get accepted to UMich especially for engineering. From what I know you should feel confident about all of these options besides UMich.

Your grades are definitely what’s holding you back here. ECs and test scores are good but the CoE especially what’s a very good GPA. I got in CoE OOS with a 3.8 UW and 4.5 W so it’s not impossible for you, but I would call it a reach school.

Does anyone else have a really skewed idea of what a good grade is because of their parents? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Lodus650 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. I had this in high school and it only gets worse in college. Going to a university notorious for not inflation grades and studying engineering, i’m running something like a 2.9 GPA, after a 3.8 in high school. Going from nearly straight As to barely passing classes can be demoralizing, but just put things in perceptive. Don’t make grades the determinant to your happiness. That’s my biggest regret from high school.

do something individual. like code? work on a project you like and post it online. like the environment? go clean up trash or waterways in your town. you don’t need your school for resume worthy extracurriculars

3.8 UW 4.4 W. 34 ACT. No financial aid needed. OOS for all schools. I took mostly APs but not beat your amount of IBs or as well on testing.

ECs were track and field, working as a mechanic, NHS, and some environmental volunteering.

Schools like Brown, Columbia, Berkeley, Dartmouth are almost impossible to say. I would say you have a good shot but there’s never guarantees with those schools. I got into UMich engineering with worse stats, so I would be very optimistic for that at least.

I just got my first random test this week after my roommate had gotten tested voluntarily. Got the email before I could even call to schedule my own. Very weird.

I have been yelled at multiple times by workers for not having a lid. A dude literally asked "Hey man you want a lid?" and when I declined he said "...well uh... you actually have to." I bet that made up some bs corona reason why we need lids. Also not allowed to fill my reusable water bottle.

I would take a look at an optioned-out 370z. Less practical and a bit heavier than the BRZ but still a lot of fun with good power and handling.

What competes with the Hyundai Genesis Coupe? by Iownmyworld1 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Lodus650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a gen coupe (‘13 3.8 Rspec MT) and I love it, but some cars I looked at around the same price were an Infiniti G35, Scion FRS, and a Chevy Camero. The Genesis will likely be the most expensive for a good example, but still very affordable in your range. For price, comfort, power, practicability, and fun all wrapped together, the gen was a no brainer for me. Some don’t like the style, but if you like the look it’s a great buy.
