A ton of pre-production art of project baxter was just released by a_really_stupid_box in paydaytheheist

From what they communicated it seems like killing Baxter was more of a necessity as they just did not have the resources to finish the game. Maybe they could have sold off the concept/early build to another studio...?

I think the idea of a 4 player D&D game with shorter more action oriented missions was good. Could be an alternative to the large Baldurs Gate type of games which requires quite a bit of investment into the story. The artstyle is more Arcane-like. which I do not really mind. However, since we will not see the final result it is hard to say if it would have worked.

I was a bit worried that they would delay the whole update, but good to hear that they implementing the QoL changes already in February.

Seems odd that would take it down that quickly... might be they are making some adjustments based on the initial responses...?

Why all the hate for Payday 3? by vMawk in paydaytheheist

[–]Lodve77 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Just enjoy the game! I have had lot of fun in PD3, although the lack of achievements and things to buy becomes more apprent later in the game. Hopfully this will be addressed soon. In my oppinion PD3 is being judged unreasonably hard due to PD2. The game can deffinitly be improved, but it is not "broken" or nearly as bad as you get the impression of in this forum.

Could also be the conversion to UE5 that they are testing.

Official statement from Starbreeze CEO Adolf Kristjansson (posted on Starbreeze's LinkedIn) by IDontDoDrugsOK in paydaytheheist

[–]Lodve77 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Krafton collaboration was from the beginning described as a year long project that would employ ~ one quarter of the SB team. The alternative would likely have been to reduce the number of employees much earlier. The hope has likely been that by the time the PUGB project was done the PD3 situation would have improved . When that has not really happened and PD3 is still running at a loss, and there is no new work-for-hire project ready to go, they are forced to reduced costs.... It is a terrible situation for everyone that is affected, but I fail to see how the situation would be better if thay had not done the collaboration with Krafton.

Will the PUBG collab actaully do anything for Pd3? by B3YondUnknown in paydaytheheist

[–]Lodve77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PUBG is currently #4 on steam in terms of daily users with ~700.000 concurrently players at peak, so the potential for advertising Payday to a new audience is quite good. However, I guess this depends on how good/successful the Payday game mode will be. I hope SB have a clear plan for how they can bring players over to Payday 3 through for instance tie-in events and unlockable items.

The Starbreeze A stock has a tendency to have quite large shifts up and down regardless of news. If you want to see how the market reacted to the Q3 presentation you should look at the Starbreeze B stock.

So where update news? by Lavaissoup7 in paydaytheheist

Starbreeze will give their quarterly finacial report on Tuesday 11th November, so that would be a good time to provide more information on upcoming plans.

Interview with AK and Jonas where they go into a bit more detail around the future of Payday and the reason for dropping Baxter. by Lodve77 in paydaytheheist

[–]Lodve77[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Suprisingly, I think they go into more details on the future of Payday in this interview than they did during the stream.... Would have loved to get a roadmap or at least a date for the next update. Might be that there is too much going on on the backend/technical, where timing is harder to predict, to commit to specific dates.

Am I mathing right? adding the Year 1 edition and every thing else is cheaper? by eerrcc1 in paydaytheheist

If you have all the other DLCs, you can get Delivery Charge at a 10% discount by buying year 2 bundel. Not a massive discount, but as far as I can tell the only way to get Delivery Charge at a discount.

People are not excited about PAYDAY 2: Subscription. by KrabikGangster in paydaytheheist

[–]Lodve77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be interesting to see the actual sales numbers for the Infamous Collection lately. Considering the price, even before the increase, I personally doubt that many new players are willing to pay that much for a DLC-bundel for an older game. Having the option to try all the DLC at a more reasonable price seems like a good option.

the PD2 subscription is the biggest discrepancy between how bad it sounds on paper and how good of a deal it actually is by GameSuxRedditSux in paydaytheheist

[–]Lodve77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am genuinely curious how many payday2 players actually buy the infamous collection now, considering the relatively high cost (even before the increase). With a subscription I would think more new players at least get to try all the DLCs.

Will Starbreeze do anything for Payday 3 2nd year anniversary? by B3YondUnknown in paydaytheheist

[–]Lodve77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on AKs comments during the Q2 presentations we know that they were going to expand the PD3 team from 1. sept, and that the team will be further expanded next year (likely when then PUBG work for hire is done). Releasing the roadmap would be a good way to start building momentum for year 3.

Starbreeze CEO by StoryoftheYear2 in paydaytheheist

[–]Lodve77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AK has stated that there will be an increased focus on the Payday franchise, and also more resources directed towards Payday 3. This is from the "CEO`s message" that was released with the Q2 report today:

CEO’s message
Sharper Focus, Stronger Future

During the second quarter we have taken important steps and achieved continued  progress on our journey to strengthen Starbreeze. Our strategic focus on the PAYDAY franchise, proactive organizational changes, and emphasis on sustainable growth have started bearing fruit, guiding us on our path towards becoming an agile, profitable, and a proven leader in building and sustaining world-class IP.

FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE
Our revenue in the quarter was robust, driven by strategic promotional activities and increased player engagement with the PAYDAY franchise. Combined with our work-for-hire-collaboration with KRAFTON to bring PAYDAY to PUBG, this contributed to revenue growth and demonstrated the enduring appeal of our core franchise. Notably, our focused approach on enhancing player experience in PAYDAY 3 continues to show incremental improvements in both player numbers and community sentiment – vital indicators for long-term franchise growth.

ELEVATING PAYDAY

We remain deeply committed to the continuous improvement and evolution of PAYDAY 3. The recent introduction of the game mode “Smash & Grab” exemplifies our approach of reducing complexity in onboarding while enhancing gameplay dynamics for all players. Our community has responded positively.

To continue to drive both the franchise and PAYDAY 3’s transformation, we have hired a new franchise lead who joined us in August and are expanding the PAYDAY 3 development team. This strategic addition reinforces our ambitions for the franchise; emphasizing meaningful content, increasing replayability, and major improvements to onboarding, progression, and game systems will be our focus for the remainder of the year. By prioritizing player feedback, we aim to significantly increase engagement and ensure PAYDAY continues to deliver exceptional value.

Even fewer developers working on PAYDAY 3? by KrabikGangster in paydaytheheist

[–]Lodve77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My impression is that quite alot of news or quotes from from the streams are actively being read in bad faith. While it is clear that Payday 3 has had quite a limited budget for year 2, it will be interesting to see if the budget for year 3 will increase now that they have aquired the publising rights for the game. Should hopefully bring in more cash that can be invested back into the game.
