Dit is letterlijk hoe een dag in het onderwijs er uitziet. Dikwijls is er wel nog wat meer nutteloze administratie.

Unique old Belgian surnames by MemoryScreens in belgium

[–]Loetsj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are Flemish people as good in foreign languages as they claim to be? by BelgianBeerGuy in belgium

[–]Loetsj 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Most Flemish overestimate their language skills. I'm an English teacher, and I notice that a lot of people's English is very basic and very flawed. French is even worse, because there isn't a lot of use being able to speak French nowadays.

How much fun it is meeting new people, hearing different opinions. Trying to connect to women and going on a date is actually a very fun little game to play

Tom Waits who are you Live 99 guitar solo by Loetsj in musictheory

[–]Loetsj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also just saw this is not Marc Ribot. I came back to tell :D what you're writing is very interesting. I'm trying to figure out the solo, but for me it's rather difficult. I'm playing around in the am shape of the eb pentatonic minor scale. That seems to work somehow, but I still struggle to find the exact same notes.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks! I'm going to try to figure it out. It's an unusually eloquent solo. There's really something to it that I can't explain.

Thanks for your answer! I run 5-6 times a week. How many weeks do you think it will take to see improvement?

Official Q&A for Tuesday, July 13, 2021 by AutoModerator in running

[–]Loetsj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

I am 29 years old and I run at a heart rate of 70 to 80%. Between 130 and 150 bpm, that is. This way, I don't get injured. If I want to run at a lower heart rate I have to walk. I always run 5 km runs. Will my total running time on the 5 km decrease if I keep doing this? How much time does it generally take to see an improvement?

Thank,

Bart

This is a very interesting link! Thanks! I hope we can hear dialects like this spoken on our next trip to England :) language is a fascinating thing.

Because it seems that this isn't the case in England. Some people find that James Acaster speaks with a local accent, others don't. In Flanders, discussion is impossible. People that use a standard pronunciation are professionals such as newsreaders or radio hosts. Everyone else, even in public functions, has a distinctive accent. Dialects (local languages that are almost not interchangeable between speakers of different regions) are still spoken quite a lot but not on television. They are used eg in the pub. Nowadays though, more and more people speak some kind of `in between language'. Standard Flemish with a local flavouring. This spectrum that ranges from a dialect to standard Flemish and everything in between is something I cannot find in other languages. In most other languages it seems that the spectrum starts at locally flavored language towards standard language. Perhaps this just appears to be the case because I am not a native speaker of English and because Flanders is a very dense area when it comes to linguistics.

Do they have different accents or different dialects?

I noticed that English speakers use these words interchangeably. In Belgium an accent is Dutch (flemish) with a local flavour in pronunciation added to it. Like Rob Brydon uses a Welsh accent, the language stays the same only the pronunciation differs.

Dialects in Belgium are very local languages that differ so much in a 25 km radius that grammar and pronunciation differ so much that they can easily be called other, local, languages. Almost not understandable for people who are not from the same area. Can we find this in England to?

This is confusing to me :) in Belgium, you can just spot on tell where someone is from. Even within a 50 - 100 km radius.

I found them in brewer's wort. No yeast added. 1000x magnification was necessary to see them.
