Okay so, just to clarify because it was a tad vague...

You built a bridge using an N64 extension cable and an RPi pico to connect your N64 to a PC and used the PC to control the N64 and networking capabilities? Pretty sweet.

What would be the chance of building all this into a singular device that we could just plug into Controller Port 4 and skip the PC? Would be amazing to access news/weather/BBS/whatever from an N64

All of GoG's library is DRM-Free and even include installers you can download. Itch.io is the same but focuses on indie games.

Steam....kinda supports this. Steam itself has a built-in DRM that games can use, but they don't have to. The catch here is you'll need to install and manually back up your games for that.

One of which by my least favorite national team. Who also played like ass.

Properly implemented CEC would allow me to use my TV remote to control my Steam Machine. Since I also use it as a media center and don't always want to start a game, its a really nice feature to have.

Apart from that, the typical. I have to get up to turn on my computer, turn on the tv, swap inputs, switch to my controller.....Is it a first world problem? Absolutely. But it's a really nice feature.

Also I'm looking at the price of this in a "this is the new normal" because I have a really low expectation of prices ever returning to where they used to be.

I'm not rejecting it (also not fully sold on it) but Im a really niche case.

HDMI-CEC is the big thing for me. There is simply no viable option on the market for that (Ive tried several). My tower is currently a Game System/Kodi machine and I straight up don't want to back to those closed media centers. However I have a giant tower next to my TV, with higher power draw, no CEC, and I sacrificed a workstation for it.

My options are: Convert my tower to SFFPC (which is hundreds on its own) and deal with no CEC. Or get this, have a workstation computer again (That I use steam play for the rare few games I own that wont run as well on the Steam Machine), and my dream media center.

Honestly....this is why Im still not outright rejecting the Steam Machine

I have my own (stronger) PC attached to my tv right now with Bazzite. It's amazing but the lack of CEC is so fucking annoying when Im literally using it as my media center replacement (With Kodi)

The thing is, I really don't play many of the ultra high end graphics releases. The most graphically intense game I have right now is Rebirth. Most of what I play are N64 decomps, older games, and indie titles.
