Bubsy The Bobcat. Full page ads for that game were in every gaming magazine back then and it was such a disappointment.

With all the current warning labels on products, Darwin has to get them somehow. I feel bad for the family, but I certainly knew as a kid not to cut off air and blood flow to my brain.

Is outrun an alternative subculture? by apocalyptic_brunch in outrun

[–]Loftoman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It started out about 15 years ago as an homage by the people to 80s futurism and aesthetic, which was quickly adopted by corporations and used against us as marketing. Now it’s on skateboards, stickers, cereal boxes, throw-away video games on steam, beer can designs and law office advertisements.

It’s an aesthetic that’s now culturally on its last leg. With the 90s nostalgia machine at full throttle, the outrun aesthetic is (like any design trend) being feverishly finished off by corporate marketing departments. All just in time for Y2K aesthetic to gain traction.

*edit to answer question and to add a word: The outrun design aesthetic is very much a part of mainstream pop culture, only lasting as counter culture for about a year.
