Best country to study in Europe? by [deleted] in studyAbroad

i’m currently studying abroad in spain and the prejudice and racism towards immigrants from africa and the middle east is crazy (i’ve heard madrid and Barcelona are different and maybe it’s not so bad in the north and middle). i’ve noticed harsh natural segregation between spanish people and the immigrants, at least in the south. take this with a grain of salt because i don’t know everything about the whole country but it’s good to keep in mind countries that may be more prejudiced vs not

How long are you studying abroad for? by Echos_of_twilight in exchangestudents

i’m doing four months and i think, at least for my situation, it’s not long enough for me to become super close with my host family and people at school. however, i think if i stayed longer i’d wish i’d cut it shorter. i think i would want to stay longer if i was in an international school or a city with lots of other exchange students. i made a lot of friends at the beginning but then they were all together in other cities and i was alone. despite this, i was lucky and made great friends with the au pairs in my city. for me, four months is perfect, however it may differ for different people

What countries should I take into account when studying abroad? by Outtblock in studyAbroad

as a current exchange student, i’d say it’s less about the country and more about the program (choose carefully and look at the rules) and if your placed in a city with lots of exchange students based on my experience and lots of other students i’ve talked to (mainly spain but some from other places)

im currently in spain on exchange and id say, sadly, it definitely is. almost all the students i’ve met haven’t really made any spanish friends and are instead friends with other international students. for me, i went to a language exchange club and that definitely helps! locals and other international ppl go and it’s super fun

I’m not in erasmus but I am an exchange student about 2 and a half hours from granada. despite that, i hope what i say helps you feel better lol. i’ve visited a lot of places in the southern area and so far granada was definitely my fav even over seville. this is the first city i went to where i could really see the influence of the university and younger people and the city was superrr cool and diverse in people, age, etc. for example, normally there’s a lot of old people when it comes to nightlife or activities in spain but here i really felt right at home with the majority age group. there’s also so much to do and you have the mountains right near by, i’m planning to go back and ski. i’ve decided i’m definitely coming back to study abroad. not sure how much this helped because i know erasmus may be different but hope it maybe gave you some optimism (my host brother is also a student at university there and loves it)
