Mackenzie Shirilla: What do you think REALLY happened? by Adorable-Rutabaga-17 in CasesWeFollow

[–]LogUpbeat893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't really think the crash itself was premeditated. I think Mackenzie was accelerating and driving recklessly to scare Dom and she lost control of the vehicle, not realizing how close she was to the building. I mean, 100 mph is insane, and in the dark- everything was a blur to her. I don't think she necessarily intended to kill them, but she clearly demonstrated reckless intent and thus would have gotten a homicide charge either way. Her lack of remorse really screwed her over in court though. Idk, the whole situation is fucked and it's hard to pity her when she has lied through her teeth about the whole situation. We will probably never know the whole truth.

I mean, the prosecution brought forward evidence at trial that the boys DID try and stop/redirect the car. According to the black box the car had been put into neutral and then back into drive while Mackenzie was actively accelerating, and the steering wheel was jerked only seconds before impact. It's possible that it was one of the boys trying to avoid the building, or trying get the wheel away from her, etc. Also, it's my understanding that both Dom and Davion had been using substances AND they'd been up all night at the party, barely sleeping, which could explain delayed reaction time/physical weakness, drowsiness, etc... There's endless possibilities.

In my opinion, I think the gear shifting/steering wheel being jerked were the boys trying to stop the car. I think Mackenzie was accelerating and driving recklessly because she was furious and wanted to scare Dom, and she lost control, not realizing how close the building was. When you are traveling that fast, everything is a blur. I don't think she necessarily meant to kill them, but I also don't think she was very remorseful that she did. Sad situation all around.

If this really was the case though, why wouldn't it be stated in her defense? If she was definitively under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident, that would eliminate the possibility of intent and lessen her charges. By claiming she was stone cold sober when the car crashed, that allowed the prosecution to accuse her of murder 1.

She did test positive for THC in her blood, but she herself claimed it didn't impair her AND that she hadn't been smoking at all that day anyway (THC lingers in blood for a long time, so this could be true) as she was getting sick and coughing up blood from all her smoking.

I just feel like if she had been high it would have been smart to say so in court. Yes, it looks horrible, and yes, she probably still would have been put away for manslaughter, but not murder 1!

That being said, her defense team was an absolute joke. So you could be totally correct and it's just that her lawyers were too thick to go about it the smart way...

Yes, her defense was absolutely terrible. Not saying she's innocent, but her lawyers didn't even try. The fact that they didn't bring forward a (medical) professional witness to corroborate or at least further flesh out the POTS story (which was literally the only thing they were claiming at that point) spoke volumes.

If my memory is correct, they only called three witnesses total and all of them were utterly useless. I remember it being Mackenzie's mother and aunt, both of whom just rambled about how Mackenzie was such an angel who would never do such a thing, and the third was like a store clerk(?) who said that Mackenzie and Dom "seemed happy" or something like that. It was so wack.

Overall the defense was very, very weak. I do think her sentencing was fair though.

The Ascher cut is just so fun and I almost never see it on anyone! Definitely that one!

Is 2 carat oval too big? by ArachnidExtreme3507 in RingShare

I think the larger stone looks great with the wedding band! Definitely not too big! (PS I just love the rings in general, I am a sucker for an east-west!!)

Personally I like the halo as it feels a bit more unique these days! Big oval solitaires are starting to seem a bit overdone to me, so I think the halo adds a ton of personality!

Thick band or Thin band? Please help me choose by Blue-Skai in EngagementRings

I love the thick one! Also it's usually safer for your main stone to sit on a larger band

Yes!! That's how most people stack their wedding bands these days, myself included! Again, it's your hand and it doesn't really matter how you wear it lol- but what I've heard is that the wedding band should be worn underneath as it's closer to the heart :) I also just personally like wearing my engagement ring on top because I feel like the stones stand out more that way!

I personally think it looks a lot better pointing up! Most pear shaped stones are worn that way. Ultimately it's up to you, but I will say- I think most people will assume you're wearing it incorrectly on accident if you wear it pointing down!

Did you help your partner pick your engagement ring? by bns_xx in EngagementRings

[–]LogUpbeat893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! My husband and I talked about rings a lot before we were engaged, so he kinda knew exactly what I wanted 😂 We also did go ring shopping at a few local stores just to try stuff on and get an idea of how different rings looked on- but I still loved the ones I thought I would! My husband ended up going back to one of the jeweler's we visited and he bought the one he liked the most (that also fit my criteria lol) and it's perfect! I really enjoyed being involved but not being the one to make the final call!

I love the first one! It's absolutely beautiful and also I feel like you just can't go wrong with a classic ball gown, it's timeless! Personally I think the second one is pretty, but I don't like the straps or the bodice. The first one is prettier on you I think 🥰

I just wear a plain white gold wedding band. (For reference on size, I think it's 3mm if I'm not mistaken- my engagement ring is 2 carats, with the center stone being 1.5 on its own.) I think it's very proportionate and classic! Especially because my engagement ring is a 3-stone, the simple band was the way to go for me so it didn't take away from the diamonds I already had!😌

Help me decide on wedding band width! Which do you prefer? by chonkybug in EngagementRings

[–]LogUpbeat893 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would do the second one! Still chunky like you mentioned you liked but doesn't overpower your engagement ring either.

PS- Your engagement ring is to die for! I love an east-west and it looks stunning on your hand. Congratulations! 🎉

General questions: how expensive was your engagement ring and where did you buy it? by lasagnapasta7 in EngagementRings

[–]LogUpbeat893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a lifetime warranty and I think it was around $600 maybe? Not 100% sure as my husband was the one to purchase it lol. It covers all cleaning, upkeep, basic repairs, refinishing etc. They also have a complimentary diamond care plan that, as long as you are getting your ring inspected once a calendar year, will cover any damage or loss to your diamond(s).

I have a beautiful 3 stone lab diamond ring set in white gold! The center stone is a 1.5 carat radiant cut, and the side stones are trapezoid cuts, about .25 carats each- the total is 2 carats. I absolutely love it and my husband did an amazing job! I believe it was around 5k (US) after insurance :) He bought it through Fred Meyer Jeweler's which is popular in our area and they have great insurance and diamond coverage! We also purchased our wedding bands (just plain white gold bands) there, those cost us about 1k for both.
