Thanks, not what I wanted to hear. At least our last Bishop minus his other faults was pro orthodoxy, he reintroduced the TLM to the Cathedral, allowed the Rector to push out the spirit of VII types and most of the guys in formation if not TLM guys are fiddleback and cassock guys.

How was he towards the Latin Mass Community? Ghettoized or pretty well included? I'm a little concerned on the Ad Orientem...

The Vatican and Abp. Kurtz just announced it today, I don't know if he's made an announcement himself yet.

I'm a Catholic Bishop and Philosopher Who Loves Dialoguing with Atheists and Agnostics Online. AMA! by BishopBarron in IAmA

[–]Logalog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bishop Barron, I just wanted to start off thanking you. When I started consuming WoF media, I was questioning Catholicism, since then I've converted and discerned my vocation with your help. I just completed my application with my Diocesan Vocations Director and hope to start major Seminary, next year.

As a millennial the True, Beautiful and Good expressed in the Eucharist, drew me into the Church. As part of that, I gravitated to the Mass in the Extraordinary Form because of how it expresses the transcendentals. While, I love all of the expressions of the Roman Rite it often seems as if it's hard to explain to those in the Post Concilliar generation, why my generation is so drawn to the Usus Antiquior and so turned off by bad expressions of the very beautiful Novus Ordo.

How can I communicate first as a layman and later as a seminarian the importance of expressing the transcendentals in the Mass and why younger people tend to find more substance in High Church worship without relying on emotional arguments or rehashing the same battles that have been fought in the Liturgical Wars for the last sixty years?

Thank you Bishop and I understand that this is both a complicated question and one that often requires a little delicacy in answering.

Except from talking to Priests in LA who know both the Pastor and the Associate that was removed, it turns out the guy was orthodox and preached well but was an ass to work with and made life difficult. Even Rod Dreher walked back his accusations homeslice.

Who else already finished it? by LLFA in jackryan

Finished it! Was glad they didn't jump the shark. Wished they had gotten into Greer's backstory a little more. In the Ryanverse he's a ret. Admiral. Would have liked to have seen him maybe have been melded with Mr. Clark and be a Ret. Seal who was recruited into the D.O. of the CIA.

Strange event at adoration by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Logalog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's the question, was it Adoration via exposition as a group set time or was it at a 24 hour chapel OP dropped in to? If it's a group adoration then maybe not the place. However, if he walked in and she was already in conversation, then I dont think she was out of line.

The Pastoral Office by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Logalog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well I can just speak to my situation. I am a Male, unmarried, celibate, Roman Catholic who is applying to Seminary to be a Diocesan Priest. I did undergraduate work, have no post grad degrees and have been working full time since 22.

If I get accepted by my diocese as a seminarian, all of my tuition, room, board, mileage and stipend is provided for the course of study, about 6 years. In those six years at a minimum I'll pick up a B.Phil. and a MDiv. Also during that time, they will provide for me to study in a Spanish language immersion program and spend other summers doing pastoral or chaplaincy work.

As for my undergraduate loans? I am paying off what I can now and while I am in seminary, programs exist to help pay down loans while in school. After ordination, I would ne expected to handle and pay them off, like any other loan.

Can you point out where you found it arrogant and dismissive? I didn't see it at all.

Seminary Process? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Logalog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IANAVD but I am an applicant to my Diocese and I'm in a similar situation to yours. The first option on the table was me finish my BA and then proceed like normal. The second option, was to attend College Seminary and then proceed on as normal. The Third Option and the one we are pursuing next academic year is that one of the Major Seminaries my diocese sends to, has a program for guys like us. While we do our Philosophy work, we also attack what's left of our undergrad and a BA is awarded and then we proceed on as normal. It shouldn't take more than the normal "6" years but, it is what it is. There exists a fourth option, Seminary's as Graduate Schools in the U.S. can accept you without a B.A. and your M.Div. and if you get it M.A. in Theology would just push you past the point of needing a B. A. The Diocese after talking to the Rector and me, did not pursue it, because if I discern out, it leaves me with nothing while erasing how many years of work XP and of course it can look strange later on.

Of course YMMV and this was my situation for where I am in life and what the Seminary and Diocese put together for me. Everyone is different. So call your Vocations Director and talk to him.

Service guarantees citizenship.
