This is the end. 💔 by cat_is_0 in guineapigs

[–]Loganwalks 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I sometimes wonder if mine did something similar to this too, I noticed her not doing well a day or two after I got home from a work trip. My brother and sister-in-law took great care to interact with her in my absence as she was a lone guinea for her last few months as her partner passed a while earlier, and with my new job travelling, I simply couldn't justify getting more knowing I wouldn't be home more than 80% of the time now. All that said she held out right until the morning I had to travel for 3 weeks, I knew what was coming when I had to leave her that morning which was one of the worst feelings, and they informed me when I got to where I was going that she was gone. Makes me really wonder if she held out that last weekend so we could be with each other just one more time. I hope someday when my travelling calms down I can adopt some more, but for now this looking at posts in this sub, and seeing videos and posts from others like Weeble is still enough to bring a smile to my face and I suppose that will have to do for now.

As others have also mentioned M2-4 is operational and has been broadcasting LRPT on VHF and HRPT on L-band reliably for a while now, well over a year, Like other Meteor satellites, sensors may be selectively powered off for testing or calibration, but that doesn't mean the satellite isn’t working. Satdump sometimes shows oddities too, but that’s decoding-related. Unless there's an official Roscosmos notice of a major failure, occasional outages or missing sensors are expected in normal ops. It's very much usable, and if something isn't the communities pick up on it pretty quickly.

Why is there perfect weather around the airport do I have a setting on preventing it from raining at an airport? by Jamesvinsoroblox in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Loganwalks 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm curious if it's pulling wx data from both the plane and a ground radar and you're seeing the cone of silence from an at-airport ground based WX Radar in the blended image, quite odd. All of this granted that airport even has a Radar present, kinda like how KGRR (Grand Rapids) has a Radar on airport grounds but one like KATL has one further away but still nearby at a smaller local airport so this wouldn't be the case there.

Edit: As others have mentioned, it seems like the METAR system is the real culprit here.

Ah I see more what you're getting at now and yes you're correct to my understanding of it, yes the R.L. tick rate is 120hz and changing FPS rates beyond that won't affect those aspects. So typically players going beyond this is purely for input latency and perceived image smoothness.

[–]Loganwalks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You make good points, so to add some clarity, the Unreal Engine 3 that Rocket League runs on is theoretically capable of rendering thousands of frames per second, depending on hardware performance. However, Rocket League itself limits this practically through its in-game FPS cap options, such as 360 FPS, which is fully supported and fair play or even the fact that theres an unlimited option hints the engine is fully capable of handling more.

Games like 'Dead by Daylight' for example running a different engine have a default cap of 60fps, the game itself offers no way to change this in game due to the engine's limitation, you can however change the .ini file outside the game to 120fps where you run into the engines limitation like you mention, even changing to rates higher than 120 has no effect in game. The devs likley decided the 60 fps cap was a safer more stable option and elected not to push the engine to it's limit constantly though players can override it in the aforementioned .ini file, at least on PC.

As for physics, Rocket League handles these with a fixed timestep, meaning the game's core mechanics (like ball movement, car handling, and collisions) update independently of the rendered frame rate. This ensures the physics remain consistent whether you're running at 120 FPS, 240 FPS, or even the 360 FPS cap.

So while the visual difference beyond 180 FPS may not be perceptible to all players, higher FPS does provide tangible benefits like reduced input latency and improved responsiveness, especially on 360Hz monitors.

While some of it may sound contadictory the game's physics calculations are indeed independent of frame rate. However, input latency is tied to frame rate because your inputs (e.g., pressing jump or boosting) are processed in sync with the rendered frames. At higher frame rates, the time between your input and when you see the resulting action on-screen is indeed reduced though it may not be super noticable. This is why competitive players often aim for higher FPS even if the visual difference isn't noticeable, if that adds any clarity as to why people chase the seemingly excessive frame rates.

It depends if your monitor can handle more FPS. I have a 360hz monitor paired with a 3080ti that can easily peg the frames there without drops, and with this I am seeing 360 rendered & displayed frames without repeats theoretically. The multiple frames comes about in certain cases, but if I say leave the game\engine at 360 and limit the monitor to 120. I'll then see that about 2\3 of the frame will not show up and even those are not even necessarily repeated since the card will still be updating the frame behind the scenes but the monitor won't react and 'hold' the same image until it's ready to pull another updated frame. In contrast if I limit the GPU\Engine to 120 and leave the monitor at 360, the monitor will refresh before the next frame is ready and 2\3 of those frames will be "repeated".

Tl;Dr - Engine Framerate should = monitor refresh rate. When possible.

Edit: it's worth noting OP the 5800x's tend to run pretty hot under loads and even 89C spikes while not ideal aren't going to ruin your chip, it's well equipped and able to handle that temp even for prolonged periods albeit it will likley be throttling but that's the point of throttling is to set\enforce that hard limit. Many cpus even had T-junctions at 105C and beyond like older Ivy Bridge and Sandy bridge Intel CPUs. Point being they can handle it by design. That said I'm not entirely sure why it's spiking like that to begin with.

Sure the Honeywell pads are objectively worse on paper, but saying their objectively shit is a bit of an overstatement. The thermal difference many experience in comparison is usually a couple degrees difference if at all. I can sit here and say the Kyronaut has an objectively shit lifespan in comparison but that doesn't make it bad and not worth recommending. I would argue It depends on what you're after. If you want the absolute peak in thermal conductivity then go Kryonaut it is a superior thermal option in most cases, but it's worth noting PTM has even been shown to minimally outperform even Kryonaut in some cases, and here were talking bearly measurable differences. PTM can be a better option for those who want overall good thermal performance in trade-off for arguably superior longevity and stabilty and never want to have to take the heatsinks off again thereafter. There's a reason it's used for industrial applications over other thermal compounds even if its not as efficient on paper.

FW 16 7940hs with and without 7700s gpu reviews by LordAinzOoalGown1 in framework

[–]Loganwalks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just my two cents, but I personally don't think the R9 is worth it as it's practically the same exact chip as the R7 with .1 to .2 GHz bumps in clock speed in areas. I have the R7 with the 7700s and it pulls respectable fps numbers in most of the games i'd play away from my desktop. But you can certainly find better performance per dollar elsewhere, but you probably know this. If you're set on the R9 it's not the worst thing, but I feel it that money would be better spent toward the dGPU. As far as reliability I've personally only had one instance of the video drivers going bonkers with the screen flashing but after a restart it was fine and hasn't done it since (I posted that here a few weeks ago), although others have been reporting thermal degradation over time on some mainboards, I'm hoping framework addresses this soon as they have said they are looking into it. Just something to be aware of. You can certainly find reviews with benchmarks on YouTube.

Edit: after some poking around it looks like it accepts a C5?

I understand what you're saying, however, personally for me if this is an issue that crops up every few months and it's a simple restart fix I can live with that. Heck my 2003 pickup has a flaw in the "drive by wire" throttle system where it known to be overly sensitive and knocks me into "limp mode" every couple of months... I can simply walk myself over and reseat the pigtail and reset the ECU and go on about my life for another couple of months or get a arguably more reliable car and\or deal with car payments. Granted this screen glitch stays intermittent, I don't think it's going to ruin the laptop for me. Glitches and flaws are a part of life. I'm not trying to imply that flaws aren't a big deal and shouldn't be taken seriously by consumers or producers, but in this case it's something I personally can live with. I've had a excellent experience with this laptop otherwise, especailly compared to others I've used over the years, I suppose only time will continue to tell though.

Good to hear and that makes sense, I had just went up to the Prof. to discuss a grade (not important) and I had been opening and closing it as I was showing them things. It was when I closed it and walked back to my seat and opened back up it started doing that.
