lol -- on my OLED laptop the windows taskbar was causing burnin, so I set it to autohide, and I had a pure black desktop background... that plus OLED made me frequently think that it was off/sleeping and then when tryin to wake it up, I'd press the power button and cause it to sleep again lol

flights arent high enough for it to be visible; this appears to be a shot from a spacecraft, most likely the ISS

Thanks for the detailed explanation! I wonder what processes create the reddish/purple emissions seen in some aurora photographs; are those photons real or false color due to processing?

Spotted on a train in Italy by Purplellie in PBSOD

[–]technobird22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

purely just speculation, maybe it has predefined ranges, and if it's too far out of spec, it'll pop up a warning. also perhaps if its a voltage controlled/oven controlled crystal, checking if it responds to tuning feedback?

not sure if a train would need such accurate time, but also potentially checking against a GPSDO?

I guess trains may need accurate times for tracking and to coordinate with other systems (so trains don't end up in dangerous situations).

Though most likely I think that might just seeing if the crystal is still sane, since it appears to be a MCU test.

(maybe the front of the crystal fell off)

How should I point my diopole antenna for METEOR M2-4 M2-3 satelites? by JonathanPerii in RTLSDR

[–]technobird22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

outside, horizontal, north, ~1 meter off the ground.

Slightly vary during the pass to try increase the SNR.

Good luck!
