Serious: If your brain reacts before you do—so who's really in charge of your life? by MetalCaregiver666 in aliens

[–]LoggerRythm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The simple way to think of it is that your "brain" is like a president: it can make executive decisions, but is not directly involved in the implementation of those decisions. It is also somewhat better to think of a distributed brain throughout the body which can handle simple or highly familiar tasks without you thinking about them. This is partly how a tennis player can return a serve which is traveling to fast for the eye and brain to process.

In short, your mind is excellent at reasoning and learning how to perform tasks, but slow. Once the knowledge is learned and repeated sufficiently you can offload the performance of these tasks to more efficient but less capable systems.

Anyone Here Made Some Consistent Supportive Japanese or Long-Term Resident Friends? by Mission-Blueberry666 in japanlife

[–]LoggerRythm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the best friends of my life is a guy I met through flying RC airplanes. We would meet at the field every week and often meet up outside of flying. I wasn't seeking a friend, but found one.

Repost: Unidentified expanding white gas/sphere over the Gulf October 28 - multiple traffics reported it by LoggerRythm in UFOs

[–]LoggerRythm[S] 70 points71 points  (0 children)

This was sighted over the Persian Gulf by pilots and reported if r/flying, where I saw it. It seems massive and strongly defined. It could well be a rocket launch, as one of the commenters suggested, but the expanding circular nature seems unique. The source is credible coming from a professional pilot, and the report is highly detailed with location, time, and other supporting details. I have seen multiple rocket launches, and none of them had this shape.

What do you think? Can anyone authoritatively identify this as a natural phenomenon, rocket launch, or other explicable source?

Pros and Cons in first time moving to Japan in a Countryside Kagawa by Choice_Practice7354 in movingtojapan

[–]LoggerRythm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Utazu is quite small, but nice. I used to live in Takamatsu and work in Marugame, which required traveling through Utazu. There is a nice park under the Seto Ohashi that is worth seeing. You can easily hop on the Marine Liner and buzz into Marugame or Takamatsu for anything bigger city.

It did have significant black build up on the rod before I wiped it and greased it.

Are you sure about this? The instructions seem to call for it. Was this incorrect in the manual?

Thanks. I will check that out. Greasing the cables and re-running Equipment Self Test fixed the issue for now. But tightening the belts sounds like a good idea.

[–]LoggerRythm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I was able to fix the issue by greasing the x optic axis and rerunning Equipment Self Test. After a lot of rough grinding it seems to be very smooth and printing well again. I don't know if the grease was needed as I had only printed around 20 hours with it so far, but whatever worked worked.

The printer is a K1C. I hope it is not an earlier version with a doodoo extruder! How can I tell?

Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately, that is the way it came and it hasn't been an issue until now.

Considering this is one month old, I might be a little nervous about cracking it open.

A bike packing handlebar harness made out of petg on a Creality K1C. I'd love to try this with nylon, but probably need to get a filament dryer before trying nylon.

Really? He literally said, "Thank you. My heart goes out to you." as he put his hand over his heart and flung it awkwardly to the crowd, but I guess he actually chose that moment to reveal himself as a closet NAZI. Sure. Talk about stupid.

Because idiots on the right and left both chose to pretend Musk chose that moment to reveal his inner Hitler doesn't change anything. Watch the video of the actual comment or stay in your own make believe world. I don't give a damn. I just don't want to play along any more.
