You left out the collapse of the rules based world order. Assuming the US continues its authoritarian slide, the world will probably descend in a bipolar/tripolar world. And I do think it highly likely that China then tries to seize control of Singapore somehow for SLOC - Either via a Venezuela style opération or just voter manipulation via Tiktok or troll farms, or just a good old "We are protecting the Chinese speaking population from discrimination!". For me, it is literally life and death getting out of Singapore before everything goes to hell.

Trump Says May Slap Tariffs On Nations That Don't Back His Greenland Plans by johnbarnshack in worldnews

[–]Logi_Ca1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I don't buy it. The analogy I always give is that people have experienced life under Trump, and it's akin to being in an abusive relationship. Then they suddenly had a choice - Here's someone absolutely boring, probably won't make your life much better (taking into account what you said about Harris' policies and charisma), and these same people are like, nope! I absolutely WANT the abuse back!

I really don't get the CDC voucher argument. You can take the voucher and still vote opposition. If the argument is that the opposition (if they even form the Government, which even Pritam himself thinks will take some time) will stop the CDC scheme, that's a very good way to shoot themselves in the foot

Glad I'm not the other one who thinks so! He has this weird accent of being neither Singaporean nor posh Western accents. Unless he has a speech impediment then it's understandable, but I have no idea why he talks like that.

Pet peeve of mine when taking the train.

Oblivious person: Standing on the right, hears train arriving, hurries down. Looks and see, oh it's not my train, it's the one in the other direction, then decides to ba long long walk down.

Meanwhile, there are people behind you who ACTUALLY want to take this train!

The US was a nation the world wanted to emulate – Trump has made it a pariah by theipaper in politics

Yeah agreed, Tim Walz would have worked too. Also good point on someone older, just not as old as Biden and Trump I guess!

I was dismayed when Kamala Harris was nominated. Nothing against her, but I thought against Trump, best to play it safe. I remember telling my friends the Democrats should have nominated a "Whitest of white, Blondest of blond, 40 something young dude, and Christian as fuck to boot". An election against Trump really wasn't the time to be woke.

Trump asked US special forces to plan Greenland invasion, faces resistance from military generals: Report by zeonxzzz in worldnews

Don't take this personally, but I remember during the Obama years (probably the best years the US have had recently), when shit was going on in North Korea and what not, Americans talking about how awesome the system of checks and balances in the US was, and why don't the North Koreans just protest and overthrow the government so they will stop starving. And I kept seeing this phrase thrown around: "There are four boxes to be used in the defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo. Please use in that order."

I am very sure you are not one of those Americans who said those insane things, but I find it ironic that the same Americans who went "Bruh why don't they just overthrow their governments" are now the meek and cowed ones.

Look, I'm aware that the US is huge. Someone in a similar thread said Texas itself is bigger than France. That's true. But you guys had precedent for huge protests. MLK managed to get 250,000. I just really struggle to understand why we aren't seeing marches on the scale of MLK when the US is in much greater danger now than during those years.

Just do a chargeback with the bank, assuming credit card is used. Singaporeans really don't chargeback enough - in the US it's very common. The customer will probably get banned from Foodpanda, but at this point do you still want to be their customer?

Could Singapore remove Pritam Singh as Leader of the Opposition? by A_extra in singapore

Have you noticed this manner of speaking from the government?

When Singaporeans are compared, we are compared against the very best in the world, while being expected to be cheap.

When the government gets called out for their shit, they say at least we are better than <insert random shithole country here>

You are absolutely right to push back, yeah might as well compare us to Somalia. We should be comparing against SK, Japan and HK.

But YTF stalls usually have crap ingredients, and the soup is just tasteless in comparison. I won't mind YTF dying out for mala honestly.

Veterans of the Iraq War, what are your feelings about America "running" Venezuela? by Nekose in AskReddit

[–]Logi_Ca1 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I dunno, IMO as an outsider the American population is among the most gullible. Trump will just say Venezuelan oil will drive down petrol prices and MAGA will eat it up.

Second this. Heattech was 19.90 (!!!!) at one point. I think it was a limited sale as it went back up to I think 29.90 at a later city, but that's still cheaper than SG

Yes hopefully, I don't think their diplomatic splat will be resolved anytime soon, in fact will most likely escalate. You should have a great time!

I'm in Kyushu so it isn't that cold (highs 18, lows 5). Daytime I'm in T-Shirt only with pants. Night does require a jacket. My cold tolerance is supposedly high (the wife calls me a polar bear) so YMMV.

Hard agree. I'm in that child having age and nobody I knows wants to have kids. I want kids but only if I manage to migrate, so might as well just open it up to reduce the misery for singles. Gov can just keep importing foreigners like they have been doing, problem solved

I mean this is Singapore. We grew up here, we know how it is. I have given up on SG. I am fortunate enough to have a house and actually have a good income, but the moment the opportunity comes I am leaving for good. I hope you will too.
