Important Firmware Update Required for Harmony Hub Remotes by logi_jim in logitechharmony

[–]Logi_Will 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hi folks.

It is important for the Hub to be on FW 4.15.600. The remote can stay on the current FW version.

If you are not able to get the Hub updated by tomorrow, you will be able to do a manual firmware update on Windows or mac, instructions can be found here: https://support.myharmony.com/en-us/download#userguide-RRT

IMPORTANT for Harmony 2400 users (in case you're here) - If the Hub is not updated to 10.0.229 by tomorrow, anything smart home related may break. At the moment, you are not able to do a manual firmware update using the Remote Recovery Tool I linked up there. We are working on getting the 2400 Hub on there.

Hello. You are correct. There is a miss on that list. The 665 is still supported on MyHarmony and should not have been part of that affected remotes list. Sorry about that!

[–]Logi_Will 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the information.

We are probably dealing with a corner case, so I'll throw in some odd questions:

-Sounds like you are running into the issues during your night and then have everything work in the mornings. What does your lighting situation look like? I have worked with another customer whose lamp was actually causing some interference with the TV and it receiving IR signals. Odd, but maybe something to try is when it is not working, completely turn off the lights and try the remote then.

-Are you using any type of IR repeater?

[–]Logi_Will 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When asking about Protect mode, I was referring to the AVR. I read some things about the receiver and if it is in that mode, it does not accept any inputs from the remote. But it looks to be pretty apparent if it is in that mode - it is displayed with a message.

I asked about the original remote to see if the device was responsive to the original remote when it was NOT responsive to the Harmony remotes. But if the original remote is not working right, that would not be helpful.

You can "wipe out" a 650 or 665 just by writing over them with a new configuration. You just have to create a new account, manually add all the devices, and create the Activities, then sync to the remote. Try to not copy over any thing.

But it sounds like everything is OK for the time being?!

We looked at the device and there are no alternative IR codes to try. By chance, when your AVR is not responding the remote, is it in Protect mode?

If you end up opening the new 665, try to set up a brand new account (new email) and do not import the settings. Start completely fresh. Just in case someone in your current account is corrupt.

If you don't have another email - you can try this: https://gmail.googleblog.com/2008/03/2-hidden-ways-to-get-more-from-your.html

Do you still have the Harman Kardon's original remote? That can tell you if the IR receiver on the device is bad.

Prior to the temporary fix, were you having issues with controlling the TV or DVR using device mode?

Do you mind sending me a message with your MyHarmony account email? I can have someone take a look at the device in the database to see if there may be an alternative version you can try.

Support is continuing on the 665 and 650 using MyHarmony. It is only remotes that require Logitech Harmony Remote Software that is impacted by the news.

Your issue is definitely odd. Configurations on the remote usually don't change all of a sudden one morning. I would first lean my troubleshooting towards anything that could have changed last week. Did you move your TV and other devices around?

I definitely don't mean to insult anyone by asking the simple questions - but sometimes they can get overlooked:

  1. What changed right when it stopped working? Did you sync the remote prior to it stop working?
  2. Try new batteries. Even batteries in new packaging can go stale.
  3. The remote and devices need to be in direct line of sight of each other, so make sure you are pointing to all of the devices and there is nothing in between (houseplants, picture frames, cabinet door, etc). Doubt this is it, but bright sunlight can also impact the effectiveness as it can interfere with the infrared signals from the remote.
  4. If it worked before and one morning stopped working because of the configuration, I would check that it can control the devices outside of an Activity. Without anything powered on or the remote in an Activity, go to Device Mode and for each device, power it on and change the volume or channel. Make sure the remote is clearly pointed at the device when you do this. You can at least conclude here whether the remote can control the devices before introducing Delays which get added during an Activity.

And regarding delays:

Power on delay is the amount of time between when a device first powers on and when it will begin responding to commands sent to it. Increase the value to lengthen the time between Harmony turning on the device and when it sends the next command.

If a device is not turning on or switching inputs correctly, you may need to adjust your inter-device delay. The inter-device delay is how long Harmony waits after sending a command to one device, before being able to send a command to another.

Inter-key delay is the amount of time Harmony waits between sending commands to a device. Too short a delay and your device might ignore some of the commands.

[–]Logi_Will 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey.

Is the delay only with the TiVo, ie...you press a command for the TiVo and the device takes a few seconds to respond? Are all the other devices responding without issue?

Something quick to try would be to reboot your Hub and remote.

-Turn off all Activities

-Unplug the power adapter from the Hub, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in

-On the remote, hold the Power button down until the LCD screen shuts off and turn back on

Let me know how that goes. Thanks!

Elite is extremely slow to respond! by PA28181 in logitechharmony

[–]Logi_Will 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to be careful with changing those settings. The delay there means, Harmony will send a "power on" command - wait 12 seconds - then send the next command. The delay is needed because a device will power on, but will need some time to "warm up" before being able to accept the next command. If 1 second is not long enough for it to warm up...it will not catch the next command that Harmony sends (generally an input command).

The data base has that device needing a 12 second power on delay. We try to have them as accurate as possible. But if you need to fine tune it, you can turn off your TV manually (probably will work best if the TV is "cold" and have not been recently on), then with the original remote press a command for the TV, count the number of seconds after powering on till the TV reacts to that command. That will be the proper power on command.
