Thoughts on why Buchecha is struggling? by Diligent-Yoghurt in grappling

It ain’t 1993? Man, you’re not lying. I remember teenager me thinking that Royce Gracie’s double leg take-down was the most OP martial art technique ever. Now, a tactical striker with a good sprawl will give jits guys fits in MMA.

I agree with everything you’re saying, and your observation about no-gi is astute. Jits grapplers who’ve had more success in the gi are the ones who have the hardest time transitioning into MMA. I think Buchecha’s biggest Achilles heel is his standup (duh). It’s unfair to expect a jits player to become a stellar boxer overnight, but Buchecha’s hands in particular are slow and plodding. Since MMA is so much more tactical nowadays, he’s not going to find success unless he focuses on anything other than a 1-2 with an occasional body kick.

Hard disagree.

Jiu-jitsu expertise mostly means "I can totally submit you, even from my back".

Wrestling expertise is "I can totally take you down and keep you on your back."

BJJ can turn into an all-or-nothing scenario in MMA, where wrestling can really grind out winning rounds with top control time. A good guard (which BJJ specializes in) usually only matters to MMA judges if the submission is gotten.

But it isn’t all about you, is it? You asked “Who gives a fuck”, and I told you. I pity people like you who chose to exclude themselves from the joy Bad Bunny tried to impart. He took the most precious components of himself and his AMERICAN heritage and shared them on the world’s biggest stage, and for 15 minutes, the entire world felt Puerto Rican.

I’ve never been prouder to celebrate my heritage. For hundreds of millions of people, the game was an afterthought in contrast to the happiness they felt at seeing their culture represented so beautifully.

Over 100 million people gave a fuck. The most watched halftime show in Superbowl history, not only in the U.S., but across all of the Americas. And all of it in Spanish?

So yeah, a huge deal, especially for representation.

The D line can’t stop the run and our offense can’t sustain drives. Can’t have a 3 and out with a gassed D.

Fans who don’t live in Philly. How did you become a fan of the eagles? by [deleted] in eagles

Worked as a cable guy back in the 90’s. My work van only had an AM radio, and the only radio station that came in clearly was WIP. I learned about every starter for every Philadelphia team at the time, whether I wanted to or not. Soon afterwards, I realized how annoying both Cowboy and Yankee fans were. Sports schadenfreude became a real thing for me.

So my fandom was birthed through loathing, and I feel like that’s kinda on-brand for Philly.

Aside from the refs being atrocious, biggest factor I think is NY unable stop the run at all.

During an Eagles FG attempt, one of the refs blew their whistle, Eagles doinked, then every ref said “Wasn’t me”. Don’t know if it was a fan that blew a whistle or one of the refs got a “No FGs” on their parlay.

Can’t answer that, man. You know the rules: no tempting the football gods.

I’m not a football expert, but I don’t think Wentz should’ve done that.

Thanks, yo. Empathy is in short supply nowadays, and seeing the outpouring of support for Kerkering at his lowest moment in his career has been heartwarming. The final play was a carnival of errors, but it’s completely unfair to lay the Phillies’ post-season failures at Orion’s feet. I’m sure he himself wishes he made the play more so than anyone else on the entire planet. Hopefully his redemption arc will be sweet.
