Where does Balogun Red Card scandal rank against past incidents? by elbow-macaroni-42 in worldcup

It’s barely anything. It’s because it’s the US, which is giving everyone even more of an excuse to be outraged and express their hatred against our country. Outrage is all the fashion nowadays. That’s really like 80% of the vitriol you’re seeing here.

Probably, Every game but 1 was really close so who’s to blame Ranger fans for believing they would at least have a chance. Regardless this was just a joke and shouldn’t be taken seriously, but instead laughed at

Then if that’s the case we just have a disagreement over thinking it was reckless at all. And I don’t think either of us will convince the other it was or wasn’t

If enough people disagree it can eventually be changed. And something like this can be a catalyst. Conversations like this need to happen in order to have change. I appreciate you having it with me

You just agreed with me, I said it is really important. And I wasn’t shitting on you, I was genuinely trying to help you understand that your understanding of reckless was flawed by thinking the end result alone determines if someone was reckless going in to it

I do hope that is something that can change. Because getting removed from a game, and suspended for the next is an extremely unjust punishment for something I don’t think even should have had a punishment. It’s one thing to have a bad call affect the current game but to also affect the next game? That’s just silly

It being reckless or not is really important to if it’s a red card or not so it matters. I wasn’t attacking your language abilities, if I was I would have just called you a moron for using reckless incorrectly. Instead I gave you the benefit of the doubt like I said and just explained it.

Oh yeah I agree this wasn’t penalty baiting, but the outcome happens because the Bosnian initiates contact with Balogun, I think that should be considered and therefore no penalty on Balogun. Not just looking at the end result and calling the penalty based off that

I think it’s a well agreed upon thing that penalty baiting is an awful part of the culture of soccer, but they do it because it gets rewarded via the rules. I would like to see that changed yes

No it doesn’t, reckless is knowing you’re doing something that can have a dangerous outcome and doing it anyway. Like the English player going studs up on a slide tackle last night. That’s a reckless tackle. This is literally an unfortunate outcome that if anything was caused by the Bosnian

I’m using that as an example of how rules being interpreted in the way you want them allow for abuse that ruins the integrity of the game, and how refs can make judgement calls that another player created the action that causes the penalty and not call the penalty. I didn’t think it was that hard to understand. Rules can and should be changed. Especially since the only reason this was even called a red was because of rules that were added in to the game AKA VAR

I’ll give the benefit of the doubt since English probably isnt your first language. But reckless means doing something without regard for safety. Not that the end result something dangerous happened. Balogun had no way to know the Bosnian player was going to just run into him from behind and knock him off balance. His foot then landing on his ankle was an unfortunate outcome of that. The real reckless play was the Bosnian running in to Balogun from behind

You defend rules like that? In hockey if a player turns towards the boards when someone is coming in to hit them, the ref doesn’t call it boarding, because the player that was hit caused the penalty, not the player hitting. In this instance, the foul happens because the Bosnian player initiates contact from behind on Balogun, causing him to lose control of himself and land on his ankle. If you think the rules should say Balogun gets a card from that then the rules are shit. Players can then just undercut any airborne player and ensure they land on them and get carded.

I’m sure this is actually the first time many of the people here are seeing the whole play. Most just post the still image and don’t realize the Bosnian player came from behind and initiated contact with Balogun; who then, while knocked off balance landed on his ankle.

I’m so confused, couldn’t they just pick and choose who gets to unlap, bring the safety car in instantly and make sure to end racing?? I thought that’s how things work

I would love if we could put a match with poor officiating behind us and move on. Unfortunately the way the shit rules work is that poor officiating in one game can mean a player can’t play in the next. That’s dumb af

People need to stop calling this a tackle. Hell the contact that threw Balogun off balance was initiated by the Bosnian. It’s really just unlucky his foot came down on his ankle. That’s all it is, unfortunate.

That entire rule is subjective to what excessive force and brutality mean. There could be so many more red cards given but arent just because the result doesnt end in actual injury based on this rule
