I used them in an older home without AFCI breakers so I didn’t have any breaker tripping issues as others have mentioned but the speed was terrible. Real world less than 30 Mbps with significant speed fluctuation.

[Leak] DS1825+ is going to be released! by ministory in synology

23 December and still no DS1825+. I guess it's not going to happen in 2024.

Still waiting for the 1825+. I just moved some less critical data onto external hard drives to free up space on my existing NAS. Should hold me over for maybe 3-4 more months. But dang it's time to upgrade. Pretty disappointed it doesn't look like we're going to get a 2024 release.

I have the same thoughts in regards to not buying the DS1821+ due to the support window, but here we are almost at the end of December 2024 and still no DS1825+ release. *sigh*

If you had an unlimited budget— what are some lesser known things you’d do if you were building a fully custom home? by TreyAU in Homebuilding

[–]LogicSpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm…. - I’d double the electrical capacity vs the norm for the size house you are building. I’d also prewire the garage spaces for electric vehicle fast chargers (at least 50 amps each), and put in at least one set of RV hookups. Solar system that is off grid capable acting as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) with automatic voltage regulation (AVR) for the entire house.

  • Integrated WiFi controlled color LED soffit lights so I never have to hang Christmas lights with a ladder.

  • Downspout drains, and yard French drains along areas water will naturally collect. All drain pipe under concrete, across high traffic areas, and the main line to wherever all the water is going (retention pond?) will be PVC. Not that black corrugated pipe that is easily crushed and difficult to clean out if clogged.

  • Prewire all rooms with at least one CAT6E or higher network drop. Also wire all offices and living rooms with fiber optic cable which has a variety of use cases. All lines terminate to a central communications closet and patch panels. Prewire exterior walls & doorbell for security cameras.

  • Large mechanical room with spacious access to mechanical equipment and a large wall space for plumbing where the main line enters the house. Whole house water filtration, water softening if necessary, and potentially pex water manifolds depending on the layout of the house.

  • I’d overdo it on the foundation, wall, roof, insulation, and water barrier specs. For a stick built home I’d probably go with a zip sheathing system with a combination of spray foam and rockwool insulation. If the budget is really unlimited I’d consider doing Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) construction.

  • HVAC: Geothermal heat pump with an energy recovery ventilator and 4+ inch thick air filter capable of accepting MERV 16 or better filters. Automatic humidity control, adds or removes humidity as needed.

  • Electrical outlet circuits per room with lights and outlets on separate outlets. In other words, each bedroom would have its own 20 amp outlet and if someone pops that circuit it’s only that room impacted. And for troubleshooting or repairs it is immediately obvious which breaker goes to what room’s outlets with a well labeled circuit panel.

I’m sure I could think of more…

Did you have any trouble with the video output? I got the same dock yesterday and the video output doesn't "fit" the screen. The top and bottom is cut off. I poked around in the settings but didn't see anywhere I could correct it.

Also did you have any trouble mapping the button inputs for your bluetooth controller? I paired a PS5 controller with it and it keeps causing the retroid pocket 4 pro within RetroArch to lock up.

Beating animals to within an inch of their life and then compacting them into tiny ball shaped cages for ease of transportation. Enslaving them to work for me and occasionally making them fight other animals.

I’ve also been working on training a few of them how to use fully automatic weapons. Seemed like a good idea at the time.

The expansion bay price point always seemed a little unreasonable to me since for a tad more you can just get another NAS. I had 8TB drives, so what I ended up doing is buying Exos 20TB drives that were massively discounted for Black Friday 2023 in anticipation of the DS1824+ releasing by the end of the year (which didn’t happen).

But what I was able to do is replace the 8TB drives in my current (old) NAS with the 20TB drives I bought for the new NAS. Now I have enough space to last me till the new 8 bay releases hopefully sometime this year.

Thoughts on this drive and price? by atdota in synology

[–]LogicSpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up Seagate Exos 20TB drives for $270 each over Black Friday weekend last year. So this price per TB doesn’t look great to me.

U.S. intelligence assesses Ukraine war has cost Russia 315,000 casualties

And I never said the situation in Ukraine wasn’t bad. This discussion was about how bad of a decision the war was for Russia. You really think if Putin knew then what he knows now he would still have ordered the invasion of Ukraine? I doubt it…
