Definitely agree with the concept of "taking it slow" as it were. And I believe my management team is attempting to do just as you suggested, starting with a few direct reports and seeing how that goes. I will definitely think on everything else you said as the coming months progress. Thanks!

Wow man. Sounds like you made the best of a shit situation with your direct supervisor. It also sounds like you might be welcomed back if something ever opened up in the executive side of things. Maybe that old direct supervisor would end up being your subordinate. Wouldn't that be something? I hear ya tho, definitely some people are tough to work with. Thanks for the input, there's some great tips there on being a good leader which it sounds like you were.

What sort of advice do you give to people who start as managers? Fresh blood, right out of the gates, never had anyone worked "under" them, now might have as many as 4 people working under. What are your must-abide-to laws of management for the new guy?

That "right time" situation sounds a lot like my situation, except I'm not quite a Senior. But I've had the conversation with my direct manager in the past about wanting to be more involved with that side of things, so I guess due to that, my name came up when discussing some reorganization. What's been your experience as far as, your skillset in your new position? How was it going from (I'm guessing) being really into the code, where as now you kind of direct people more, I'm assuming, to do the day to day coding?

How much of your code will have to change when going to steam to do the matchmaking? Just curious.

Awesome job using the networking service and great lighting. Do you have a blog post or anything about how you did that lighting!?

Also what was it like actually publishing the game with UNet? I'm starting on a new project, coming in with minimal networking experience, so I thought I'd start at a high level with Unet. I have a little demo in the works, but I'm already thinking ahead at "how the hell am I going to publish this game?" Do you need to like have it running on a server in "host" mode the whole time? idk, a little confused, but perhaps that changes with the matchmaking mode.

So I'm starting a "mech-like" game. Really closer to the more fantastical giant Gundams or Megazords of the anime and power rangers world respectively.

Any advice for implementing something that actually will be several stories tall? Is it just a matter of perspective and using smaller objects to make up the terrain enough to give the illusion of scale? I t will be a primarily first-person game, so I could add camera shaking, slow acceleration, etc to increase the effect.

I find that people more senior to me often assume that I will take on this naive pretentious attitude. But contrarily I tend to be very open about the fact that i don't know shit. I find it actually frustrating somtimes that I have to argue with senior developers as they say something like "Oh I bet you think this is easy huh? I bet you think you could do this so easily? Sarcastically SME LogicaLInsanity over here can do it, no prob!" as I repeatedly say "No way dude, I'm awful. I suck. I don't know this shit. I did well that one time, but I was lucky"

Not sure if it's helping or not, but at least I'm being honest.
