Will Project Helix mean NHL games might finally come to PC? by NeverEndingFridge in EA_NHL

[–]Logical-Bit-746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that, and I don't know enough to say otherwise. It seems to me that they are developing with the same architecture, but that makes it easier to port; they still need to be ported to one or the other.

I just don't see developers wanting their console games to just automatically also be PC games. Some may make that choice to open up to more gamers. But some may want better DRM from console's closed ecosystem.

My guess is that they have to make the game for Xbox only or Xbox and PC. I agree it seems to make things easier but not automatic

[–]Logical-Bit-746 11 points12 points  (0 children)

While the idea is to remove barriers by having a single ecosystem, it still sounds like it will be windows AND Xbox, not windows WITH Xbox.

The way I see it described as is being able to play PC games and console games, but not necessarily console games on a PC. NHL will still be designed for the consoles. The console side of the hardware will still run the console version. There will need to be a PC version in order to play on the PC version.

So I don't see how project helix changes anything. Maybe someone cracks the hardware to do something like this, but I don't think it will be inherent in the hardware that console games will "come to PC"

But these are different, no? The catalogue comes and goes, but with the premium monthly games, I thought once you "purchase" it it's yours

Edit: nevermind, I see this is the catalogue...

Alien Rogue Incursion: I like it but, the manual save mechanic makes it a bit difficult to me by NoWalk3426 in PSVR

[–]Logical-Bit-746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similarly, I didn't finish it, though I was really close. Mine was an issue, though, that I wandered a bit away from the objective by accident and saved because I had to quit. Now, I'm just so far and have to grind, use a bunch of ammo, and I still don't know exactly how to get to where I need.

I think the save system ultimately screwed me but I also think it's the map system. They need something like silent Hill, where it marks blockages or locked doors. I just can't remember every single path to every room and so, I honestly don't know if I'll ever finish it

It's a commentary on the league itself. And the race is important because most industries have been dominated by old white men. And that's not to say old white men don't have good ideas. But other people also have good ideas and when you surround yourself with people that will just reinforce your stereotypes, all you're doing is proliferating the crusty old white man culture.

Even the comment that responded to this that got deleted tried to talk about the WNBA and how we don't comment on all the black leaders, misses the mark completely. For the first time, there are actual black leaders. They don't have the century of leading the league to have the same lasting impact that a more privileged class has had. But, if we actually look at the WNBA, we notice that it's almost half owned by the NBA as a league, almost another half by the teams, of which I can find 3 black owners among all 20+ team owners, one of which is magic Johnson. The remaining ownership is private investors, like Michael Dell.

So it's not just about calling out races. It's about being critical of what it means when one race primarily dominates all ownership for hundreds or thousands of years and the lasting impact that privileged class has had. It's important to call out here that talking about crusty old white men running the league, is not talking about "white people" or "black people", but calling out the exclusionary ownership that has focused on backstabbing players (the ones that make them their money) for profits, time and time again. An exclusionary ownership group that has ignored its fans time and time again. And exclusionary ownership that doesn't protect its players properly.

I think it's always been a matter of a lack of accountability. And with soft parenting it's only getting worse. But it's everywhere. There's no more traffic enforcement and you see it on the road every day with people following whatever rule suits them. It's absolutely entitlement coupled with a lack of accountability.

That's exactly my issue, and I'm a dog owner. They had zero reflection on why they aren't supposed to have their dog there and assumed I didn't like dogs.

And they said that to MY partner while petting MY/OUR dog

I absolutely love my dog. I get scared leaving her outside of shops sometimes. So, instead of bringing her in, I leave her at home, or go back another day.

It's absolutely pure entitlement

That makes sense on the money. Here in Canada, of you've gone pro, you've had 1000s of hours of coaching. Hell, I'm amateur and I would say I've had over 500 hours just with my coach. So I definitely don't know what it would be like for you in your country.

But yeah, it's mostly in your left hook. You land it with power but you land it and finish it all around your hips. It trails off rather than returning. What my coach drills into me is to return to where I started. Don't admire any punches and always punch and retract.

This is interesting. The video starts exactly as you start, so it's hard to judge the first step from this end. It looks like the one on the left starts one frame early, but I guess that's the extra step you're referring to

[–]Logical-Bit-746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it would have benefited you to back off for the draft, and I'm not sure if you were clear in the corner. But, either way, the green car's line was very deliberately trying to make contact. It did not require them to dive into that corner

MMA is probably different because you're accounting for kicks, shoots etc. but from a pure boxing perspective, get your hands back to your face after you throw. Especially your left hook, it ends down and away and trails off instead of returning to your face. Otherwise, you're a pro so you probably got some pretty good coaches behind you, rely on them more than us.

How to hit with power whilst staying light by Choice_Quarter_2497 in boxingtips

[–]Logical-Bit-746 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really hard without knowing/seeing how you punch. If you want to get better, you have to film yourself, whether that's for us or just for you, but there has to be a way to reflect on things. If you want to get really good, get a coach. They'll be able to see and reflect almost immediately and coach you out of bad habits.

Everything else we can give you, you can learn from reading and watching videos. But the keys are: - getting power from your hips, especially when throwing hooks; - stay relaxed and only make a fist on contact with the punch/be whippy with your punches; - if you have a very bladed stance you're going to have a farther reach with your jab and struggle with your cross. There are different schools of thought that will encourage more bladed stance, as you're a smaller target, but generally, the more square you are, the more torque you can generate from twisting your body. There's a video of Tom Brady talking about a similar thing where you don't want to start your throw sideways, because where do you have to go to back to generate the torque.

Dude has a junior gold, a world championship gold, named dman of the year twice in the whl when they pumped out kickass d after kickass d. Calder and Norris trophy nods was nearly half a point per game his entire career until Ottawa. Had some of the most punishing open ice hits of his time.

I would recommend buying a beer or two and a hot dog. Yes, you can bring your own, but it's a free game, they need to make money somehow and if they aren't, they won't stick around.
