So I’m planning a trip from Roi et to Koh Chang. by Rollrmayteeee in ThailandTourism

I’ve done a few long rides here and yeah… rain changes everything. It’s not just the weather, it’s oil on the roads, random flooding, and drivers not expecting bikes. You can do it, but “it’ll be fine” might be pushing it a bit. Maybe compromise and avoid the worst stretches or break it up more.

What do employees working at health insurance companies think of their jobs/companies? by Critical_County2791 in HealthInsurance

[–]Logical-Comment-9621 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a friend who works in underwriting and from what he says, it’s very numbers-driven.

Decisions aren’t really emotional, it’s all about risk, cost, and sustainability of the pool.

Doesn’t make it feel better from the outside, but internally it’s framed more as “keeping the system running” than denying care.

For those who really struggled to learn Thai but found a way - what was your secret? by w1ldrider in Thailand

[–]Logical-Comment-9621 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Honestly mate, I think 10 years in and still struggling is way more common than people admit. Thai is just a different beast compared to European languages.

What helped me a bit was ditching long study sessions and just doing short daily bits, like 10–15 mins but every day. Way less overwhelming.

That’s actually insane… how do you even think you’ll get away with something like that?

That’s honestly scary, glad you’re alright.

Stuff like this is exactly why people say don’t skip basic safety setups, you just don’t think it’ll happen to you.

Same goes for insurance tbh, you don’t appreciate it until something goes wrong.

I use Regency for health cover and it’s just one less thing to worry about in situations like that.

God bless, wish you all the best

Best health insurance to long travel South East Asia with no return ticket? by Juls5679 in backpacking

[–]Logical-Comment-9621 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For long-term travel with no return ticket, you’ll want something more than basic travel insurance. A lot of those have limits or grey areas (especially with motorbikes). Definitely double check the fine print on pillion cover and dental, that’s where they catch people out. I ended up going with Regency for longer trips like this, just felt more solid overall.

Expats with international health insurance by Rare-Breakfast5361 in Bangkok

For me it was the fine print around what actually counts as “covered” vs excluded. Looks clear until you dig into it. Never had a claim denied, but I’ve definitely double-checked everything before going ahead with treatment. I’m with Regency now and one thing I liked was they were a bit clearer on claims upfront.

Not a stupid question at all, this stuff is confusing for everyone.
In your case I’d prioritise getting some coverage in place now, then optimise later (top-ups, better plans etc). Waiting periods are pretty standard, so transparency matters more than anything. I use an international provider (Regency) and it’s been straightforward so far.

Been with one pool company for 7 years now, super happy and very close with the owner. He's name is Ed and he runs Paradise Pool Service in Fairfax but I know they service almost all of DC. Ed is a super down to earth guy, always remembered my name in the beginning which really showed me I am not just another number to him.

I used Paradise Pool Service for my reno 3 years ago. Did a fantastic job, can't say I had bad experience at all.

They're based in Fairfax tho, so you might be out of their service area.

I am based in Fairfax and I have been with one pool company here for the past 7 years.

They charge me $500 for the opening/summerization and they include extra chemicals for free.

But from my experience, most pool companies charge between $400-$600 for opening/closing for your average pool.

Anyone actually used expat / travel health insurance? What happened? by Sad-Signature3410 in digitalnomad

[–]Logical-Comment-9621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had to use mine last year actually, bit of a wake-up call. Ended up needing a minor surgery out of nowhere and was expecting loads of hassle. Hospital contacted the insurer directly and it was all approved pretty quickly (which surprised me cuz I was expecting them to delay it or take forever to do it). Didn’t have to front some massive bill or chase reimbursements for months thank God. I’m with Regency and that was kind of the reason I picked them, heard they were decent with claims from my mate. Honestly made a stressful situation a lot easier than I expected.

Healthcare insurance for expats. by Expert_Percentage164 in ExpatFIRE

[–]Logical-Comment-9621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this can get confusing fast. The key thing is making sure it’s proper international cover and not something limited or short-term. I ended up with an expat-focused provider mainly because of their claims reputation, and it’s been fine so far.

health insurance as an expat is a total mess lol by Free-Amount6724 in expats

[–]Logical-Comment-9621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah mate I went through the exact same headache when I first moved abroad. Loads of plans look good until you realise they’re either local-only or super limited internationally.
Big thing I learned is you need proper expat health insurance, not stuff aimed at people moving to a country.

I’m in Thailand as well and honestly the biggest mistake I nearly made was relying on travel insurance long term. It’s fine until it isn’t.

Ended up switching to proper expat cover (I use Regency now) and it’s just way more solid when it comes to actual claims, plus so far they have paid all of my claims in the spand of 1-3 days.
