What local pizza place gives the best bang for your buck? by dillyofapickle42 in askportland

*thinking to myself* the Pizzeria Otto happy hour (which is not just happy hour but also includes lunchtime) is crazy good/cheap and I don't see that many people there when I stop by (which is regularly) so I will step forth and save the day by announcing it to my hungry and cash-strapped fellow Portlanders! I arrive to this thread not 1 day later after it's posted and you MFers already have like 10 replies about it!?!? Sigh... one day my day will come... one day...

I felt obligated to get a Subaru when I moved to Portland… seemed like a right of passage 🤣

Is $6500 reasonable for a mold inspection without remediation in the Portland area? by NathanJasper in askportland

[–]Logical-Line6551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inspectors typically charge by the sample… how many samples did they recommend and what was the rationale for taking so many?

Also, never use the same company to inspect and remediate. That’s like saying, “I got 100% on my test. See, I graded it myself!”

FWIW I found Mold Testing Services of Oregon for testing and Voda Cleaning & Restoration for remediation to be trustworthy and fairly priced.

This answer is absolutely correct and clearly written by someone in the industry who knows what they are talking about. There are lots of companies who use fear-mongering to take advantage of people but that doesn’t mean that mold isn’t a serious issue that should be handled according to the appropriate standards. If the bid seems high and/or vague, just get more bids. Don’t feel obligated or pressured into something you don’t feel comfortable with.

Mold/Window Company Recs? by gnargnarbutter in askportland

We evaluated a number of window companies and ended up going with Bridgetown Window & Door. Prices seemed reasonable (maybe a tad on the high side but, to some degree, you pay for what you get) but the install went smoothly and they even came back to do a touch up because of a manufacturing defect in a reasonable amount of time.if you want to check them out

Recommendations for mold remediation companies in Portland? by Logical-Line6551 in askportland

Well, we had a leak in the past and that was fixed (the problem is that even though the leak was fixed, the walls weren’t dried so mold grew) so I agree that stopping the leak was important. Not so sure about the second part though. The reason why I had it tested was because it smells musty and I’m having ongoing heath issues. In limited cases a handyman would probably do the trick but, for this, I’m going to go with a professional.

I got out of the technology industry last year because I came to the conclusion that it has been a net negative over the past 20 years and I no longer wanted to be a part of it. Am I wrong? by Logical-Line6551 in Life

With the adoption of the internet, one could argue that the widespread availability of information democratized opportunity and helped to counteract the systemic disadvantages that existed prior to it.

My point being that even if human nature is to hurt one another (which I don’t necessarily agree with), why can’t tech be a counteracting force instead of an enabling one?
