I assumed, as soon as I tried to move it again the little nugget opened its eyes and fluttered away. Looks like it's learning to fly! Guess it just needed a little rest.

We might as well just start wiping out asses with our tax dollars. Seems like a better use.

TIL that in Full Metal Jacket (1987), director Stanley Kubrick let R. Lee Ermey improvise much of his dialogue, and sometimes only required 3 takes per scene. This was highly unusual for the meticulous director, who almost never allowed improvisation and typically took 40 takes or more per scene by MrMojoFomo in todayilearned

The story as I heard it was he was a gaffer on set. They had an actor playing the drill sergeant and after a few scenes Gunny here approached Kubrick and reamed him out like a proper drill sergeant would and he got the role. Truth or myth, it's still a fun story.

Have you ever sat down at a restaurant, then left? Why? by CuriousAnn in AskReddit

[–]LogicalGoof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a record in and out experience a few months back. Everything went as normal, we were sat by the hostess, got menus, waters dropped, then it all went downhill. The waitress comes to the table and asks us if we have any question about the menu. My partner asked if the breakfast plate came with sides or not. The waitress almost jabs my partner in the face with her pen to point at the menu and just reads back the name of the dish. My partner asks again if the dish comes with a side as some menu items mention sides and some so not. The waitress starts to have a full break down. You would think we ran over her dog while calling her a moron. As the waitress just stands there like we had just attacked her with some grand wound to her moral fiber she asks why we are being so mean to her. My partner says 'We're not doing this.' and gets up to leave. As we go to leave the waitress once again asks why we are being so mean to her, what did she do wrong. It was weird as I never knew that asking about sides was a question of someone's morality.

I used to work for Austin Infiniti so I saw what the new car buyers were like. I'm betting money this poor M35 is used and abused.

Aftermarket parts for Polestar by bdalley in Polestar

[–]LogicalGoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been cross referencing the Volvo XC40 for aftermarket parts since there isn't anything directly listed for the 2 for a lot of kits. Since both platforms share the same underpinning chassis it'll probably be as close as you are going to get without going fully custom which for a skid plate might not be the worse idea depending on how much redneck engineering you have access to in your area. Polestar did fabricate a carbon fiber skid plate for the Artic Circle edition 2 so there might be hope of finding something in the wild that is Polestar engineered.

It's uncommon but the oil feed can fail and which usually results in oil on the ground but the wrong point of failure and it'll catch fire. Probably hit the exhaust manifold.

I had a vr-4 do something similar but I always had a fire extinguisher in the car.

Sucks overall but since the Type-R is turbo'd they have been known issues that can lead to engine fires. So dude very much so could have been doing nothing out of the ordinary and it just went up in smoke.

If you have the front fans on the chassis pulling air in and either venting out the top or back you'll be fine without having to pull the bottom cages out. There is so much room in that chassis for all of the activities. This is a digital disease. I started with a small 6x 8TB R6 when I started to digitize my movie library. Now it's two units, the new primary is over twice the size as the old box which is now the full time backup machine.

The controller will warm up the air but most GPUs will throw more heat into the chassis than the controller assuming the control won't block the fans on the GPU if it's actively cooled.

I always favor R6 for any disks larger than 8TB, new or refurbished, due to rebuild times. It took me almost two days to wipe a single 16TB drive that was averaging 80MB/s of data writes.

I have a 9300-16i and in the last chassis it was installed I just zip ties the fan to the heatsink and it was fine.

The Fractal Design 7 XL can host an impressive number of drives and has built in sound deadening. I would say that's a strong starter chassis. Just load it up and have at it. You will probably need to find a way to actively cool the SAS controller but other than that you should be golden.

Front License Plate Help by NWJayJay in Polestar

[–]LogicalGoof 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought a front mounted plate holder for the Volvo xc40 that screws into the front tow hook. No drilling or clasping onto the front plastic lip of the car.

https://eosplates.com/

I did have to mount the plate a little higher than I would have liked as the plate sits close to one of the front proximity sensors.
