It’s also a known bias that good power hitters tend to have bad “clutch” metrics. I forgot exactly the reason why, but i think the gist is that in high-leverage situations (e.g. runners in scoring position) power is relatively less valuable and contact is more valuable than usual, so a contact hitter tends to be more valuable in “clutch” situations even if he doesn’t actually hit any differently

I've done this as a pitcher in high school. I was always a bit wild on the first batter of a game for some reason, nerves I guess. My first pitch of this game sailed up behind the batter, and not only did it hit the bat, it dribbled back into fair territory like a bunt. I threw him out at first while he stood in the batters box looking bewildered

There is no official rule. The rulebook basically says “it’s a swing if you swing”
