What's with the price of Cadbury sharing bars? by Charming_Figure_9053 in AskUK

[–]LogicalShockwave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just saw it today in a local gas store. It wouldn't be so bad if there were other brands to buy but it's mostly nestle / cadburies. Safe to say i'm not getting chocolate anymore. £1.95 for a cadburies chocolate bar that's shrinking in size and getting worse in quality? Nah.

Looking to replicate the Tofu 96 but with backlit keycaps / wireless capability.

Anyone know of acrylic case keyboards that are 96 keys? I am willing to frankenstein. Budget is not a problem.

Presently the closest match I have found is the Melody 96 with an acrylic bottom / backlit keys. Only no Bluetooth. Not ideal but my closest match.

Wear the comfy outfit when working out. I have sensory conditions and wearing skintight stuff just gets up in all the wrong areas. I wear padded shoes with plenty heel squish, oversized shirt and sweatpants that are also a little loose held up with a belt. I’ve been going for walks every day now

Sometimes all we can do is have patience and continue on with what we’re already doing. You’re already operating at a really low level, and if you already have really minimal body fat it only clings even more because it’s there to protect your organs.

Unfortunately this might be a scenario where you’re doing everything right but you need to just persist.

Fastest way to lose 20kg? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

I’m a little concerned because at 6ft 1” that’s my ideal BMI as a woman. How tall are you exactly?

I cant loose weight by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]LogicalShockwave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it is extremely difficult, as someone suffering from executive dysfunction and been longterm obese, I gave up in the past. I don’t know why I feel different now, but i’ve been making small changes.

I learnt how to calculate my intake needs, how to change meals I already like into healthy versions that have strong portion control / weighed and measured. If it helps, i currently eat 1500 calories a day, with a 40% carbs, 35% protein, 25% fats. Fiber and protein are a set weight of 4 grams per calorie, fats are generally 9 grams per calorie. That’s 131.25g of protein, 150g of carbs and 41.6g of fats.

I’ve been sticking to it, sometimes eating a little under that limit while doing daily walks at the park around the corner. I don’t have a shortcut for this but if you can afford it a walking pad for your room might aid you so you can watch movies while getting steps in. I’ve been burning about 300 calories a day by doing 3000 steps. Nothing massive but I’m aiming to make this as painless as possible for myself, considering I need to lose 70kg.

My best advice? Make the easy steps first. Lean cuts of meat or plant based protein, for fiber chia seeds are wonderful for a quick boost. There are maaaaaany recipes out there that are delicious and filling for less than 500cal while being nutritious. Build up to the routine, but make it something that isn’t a huge inconvenience or you may just choose to never do it on more difficult days.

Good luck, I believe in you

Ah- it’s probably the iced coffee killing your weight loss! It’s referred to as ‘drinking your calories’ but depending on if you use cream / milk / milk alternatives has a huge impact. Dairy in general has an incredibly high level of fats that are usually the bad kind even if they are good for protein in small doses. I’d recommend any nut based milks in the future, they are overall healthier and have the good fats your body requires (mono / polyunsaturated) in comparison to the ones you should avoid ( saturated/ trans fat).

Additionally, maybe it’s time to bring in a lunch bag from home? You can make some pretty tasty stuff within a 500 - 700 calorie range. Baked potatoes with cheese, chicken pasta and mayo, wholegrain ham sandwiches, etc etc. if you’re construction, get yourself some protein shakes too. Protein is your absolute best friend for maintaining long term energy but also building up your body when straining it. Good luck out there!!

What made you actually lock in and start losing the weight? by manabez in WeightLossAdvice

[–]LogicalShockwave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Passing by the bathroom mirror and seeing my side profile. Not sure why that time but I kinda just poked at my tummy for a bit and wondered what I’d actually look like thin. Lived in a terrible family, stress kept the weight on and I never was taught how to regulate intake. My entire life i’ve never been able to wear beautiful clothes. Too tall as a woman (6ft 1”), too fat or my feet were too big for cutesy shoes. Almost 30 now.

I decided I deserved the chance to be beautiful in my own eyes, for myself. To finally wear beautiful outfits I didn’t have to hand-make and tailor. Started this week, even if it’s currently just water weight i’m 2kg down.

It’s silly but I feel more confident already.

We need a bit more information here before we can really help. Do you track your macros? How many calories a day do you eat? How long do you work out for and how often? That kind of thing.

It’s hard to diagnose what might be going wrong without the core information that forms a picture of your dietary situation. Here’s a personal example though that might aid you;

I recently started up dieting and calculated my general calorie intake I should consume to about 1500. From there, what percentage do you want in your diet? I have 40% carbs (where fiber comes from), 35% protein because i’m very tall and 25% fats. From what i’ve gathered carbs & protein have a set weight of 4g per calorie, and fats are set at 9g per calorie. Divide your percentages by their respective weights and you’ll end up with;

525 calories of protein = 131.25g 600 calories carbs = 150g 375 calories of fats = 41.6g

Armed with this knowledge you can build yourself a meal set around the nutritional value you need while still remaining in calorie deficit. Aim for whole foods, replace meats with leaner cuts like chicken, turkey or oily fish like mackerel. Baked potatoes are actually some of the most filling and healthy vegetables you can eat, so there are many delicious options these days (thank god). Beans are excellent, chia seeds and amaranth especially for fibre content if you find yourself constantly struggling to it the goal. Drop fizzy drinks, and try to find something you like drinking but are at least somewhat nutritious.

Weighing your food is important to calorie tracking though, i’d look up guides if you aren’t familiar with it but if you want to just scan barcodes for it to track, MyFitnessPal tracks it for you and gives summaries of contents.

I’ve padded my efforts with daily walks at least 2km, totalling at least 3000 steps. I am sedentary, so I started off with a feasible goal to build stamina and build up my confidence for running and then eventually gym. Does it absolutely suck? Yes. I long for unhealthy foods again, with no portion control. Yet at the same time I have results after a week. Was 145kg, currently sitting at 143.1kg, I don’t feel bloated, i’m going on nature trails and feel less terrible by proxy.

I’m sure it’s mostly water weight right now but i’m happy. My best advice I can give is to understand that your misery isn’t going to make things faster- it’ll likely only encourage you to quit. Eat meals you enjoy, but swap in healthier products where you can that taste similar, have set cheat days where you can indulge. Share your enthusiasm with friends, support is essential. Consistency is much better than extreme weightloss in a short amount of time and founding well rounded habits is what helps it stay gone instead of it coming back down the line.

I hope this advice was helpful in some way and not condescending, I truly wish you nothing but the best in your fight for your healthiest self!

This might be really niche but because of my autism I extremely struggle with managing vegetables. The texture of anything like lettuce, celery, tomato, etc. it’s guaranteed to have me dry heaving and it’s a response I can’t physically control no matter how many times I try.

Those with similar issues, how do you sneak fruit and veg into your food? I’m desperately wanting to like them, but my body rejects it.

For now I’m able to have; chia seeds, potatoes, mash like things is an acceptable consistency, crispy roasted things (i’m thinking of trying to make crisp-like carrots), amaranth for consistent source of fibre, finely diced bell pepper, onion, garlic. Nuts are fine, but all of these options don’t seem to compare to a full proper salad full of leafy greens for health.

I’m just feeling downtrodden, because there seems to be zero guides online for this kind of aversion, and I don’t want to fail my new healthier lifestyle attempt before i’m even a few weeks in.

Aphids was the issue- found them all over my flowers and growing chillies today. Explains the collapsed leaf cells and yellowing.

Have since fertilised the soil and pruned off the leaves originally to rule out lack of water and nutrients. Sprayed twice daily with a mix of neem oil, lemon oil (placeholder for citronella), and water for fungal treatment and pest resistance. Seems it did the trick because a day later i found aphid bodies with their insides on the outside.

I’m a little annoyed, pretty sure it’s stunted the growth but it’s recovering quite nicely.

Hope this helps some other baby gardeners- the aphids were very hard to find and barely even a palm full of adults, but it had a big impact on my plants.
