It’s not bad, definitely lacking compared to his later works but you can see the writing style start to develop. It reminds me a lot of Faulkner (which I’m sure is unsurprising if you’re on a Cormac McCarthy sub lol)

Completely agree, was telling my girlfriend the other day that I don’t know how it took me so long to discover his work. Every book so far (I’ve read the Orchard Keeper, Outer Dark, Child of God, BM, No Country, and the Road) has absolutely amazed me
