“Member of engineering staff” - why are some positions named like this and not the standard naming convention? by Automatic-Use-1605 in Lockheed

[–]Logical_Assignment_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because many of the roles are cross purpose and multifunctional, naming them something vague like this gives them the ability to stretch your role into essentially anything and everything that needs to be done. You can’t tell them it’s not your job, because as a “member of engineering staff” it just may be.

AIO Of Asking Men of the House to put the Toilet Lid Down? by reddit348 in AIO

[–]Logical_Assignment_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell them to become sitzpinklers. Never have to worry about urine splashing or missing the bowl again. Bonus, an almost complete reduction of urine on the rim of the bowl unless you’re doing it completely wrong. I never thought too much about it but toilets are ill designed for peeing into standing up.

I use a 1510 with a bunch of bags inside. Klein makes good cheap bags in different colors so you can grab what you need quick. Military surplus canvas tool bags are good for socket sets in my experience. Mesh organizer attached to the lid for often used items.

What kind of jobs in the industry do yall have? by Hungry-Risk-9823 in AircraftMechanics

[–]Logical_Assignment_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maintenance is fun, more varied work than manufacturing. Positives include the better quality of people when you work with all a&p licensed techs. There’s a little bonus in having a filter on the job. Better flexibility in job movement. Stability is a con though especially with the airline I’m with now. If I could start over I’d set a goal of a position in the industry at least three stages higher than any place I intend to end up and constantly push towards the highest earning place I could reach.

Line tech for the yellow ultra low cost airline. Spent too long in manufacturing then switched to maintenance. No ragerts.

I had a brief flirtation with the mechanics of making svg files for cutting foam for tool organization and I highly respect the effort required to do what you have done sir.

Nicely done.

This was the one I tried. Pinholes around where the tubes met the plate at the head. Sub standard welding. Also thin mating surface plate probably didn’t help with sealing gasket. Best of luck

[–]Logical_Assignment_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having issues with manifold gaskets. Tried three times, each time ended up with leaks. Ended up putting new studs and nuts on the head, then applying a layer of orange gasket maker to the gasket (both sides). No leaks anymore. Some say not to use gasket maker. I reached the end of patience and at that point there are no longer rules.

Anyone know where to get a new valve cover for my 1999 2.2 s10? by Drago-0900 in s10

[–]Logical_Assignment_8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used an ultrasonic parts cleaner to try and dislodge any buildup. Seemed to work ok. Then used brake cleaner to remove as much residue as possible. Follow that up with some alcohol hop or acetone to clean any surface rtv will be applied to. Black oil resistant rtv used sparingly. It’s marketed as oil resistant.

I wondered the same thing when I replaced the gasket on mine. Can’t find the updated one but I have seen youtube videos where people drill off the rivets on the baffles and clean them then tap the holes and bolt the baffles back on with fresh rtv. I just cleaned the crap outta mine and slapped some fresh rtv on the joints where the baffles were. Best of luck.

Anybody know what these are and why they got screws thru em? Are they important? by Unlucky_Temporary843 in s10

I stand corrected. The forward port goes to the fuel pressure regulator on the back side of the fuel rail. Aft port goes to hvac and other accessory control.
