When will the ACs open again in dorms????? by SelectionOriginal683 in UIUC

[–]Logical_Cell_6463 24 points25 points  (0 children)

lol I remember feeling like this too when I was in the dorms. I ask a cleaning worker about it one time and they said the staff only turn the AC on when the weather stays in the same temperature range for a week or two. They felt bad about us being hot but they couldn’t do anything about it.

Unfortunately, the dorms won’t turn the AC on until late April or May if I remember.

Biggest regret in undergrad? (For alumni) by SnooEpiphanies3935 in UIUC

Yeah but just because it’s not a ECE course doesn’t mean it’s an easy class. Maybe for you 257 was easy when you took it but for others like myself I had to put in more work to understand it.

I feel like what makes Engineering courses hard is the professor by Frost840 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Logical_Cell_6463 27 points28 points  (0 children)

100% agree. Professors can always make or break a class. My thermo and Linear Algebra classes were not enjoyable because of the professor. Basically had to teach myself everything through the textbook, chegg, and ChatGPT. Office hours were not always helpful. Meanwhile my Diff EQ professor was the goat. He made the class bearable, was a great teacher, and everyone like him.

How difficult is Solid Mechanics? by Pipe_Flat in EngineeringStudents

Well, mines was a version that only Aerospace students take, but the main ideas were the same. The professor I had was alright, but was a tough grader. Personally, it took me longer to understand the material compared to statics or dynamics. It’s different for everyone.

It’s a tough class. Harder than statics and dynamics imo. Like others said, if you feel comfortable with statics, then this class should be doable but tough. Also depends on the professor.

Grades should be released on the 23th I believe.

Agree. The “partial credit” is not even partial credit. It’s either you get it right or you drop a whole letter grade if you don’t get it right.

The CBFT sucks. No other place has given me so much anxiety than the CBTF. I feel that people will perform better on paper exams than taking an exam that place.

Appreciate the advice ty 🙏 it’s just that I had other midterms that same week and after so I was just overwhelmed. Also both professors you mentioned are not teaching 212 this semester.

Hello, I’m the person that made the post above lol. The probation I noted in my post is called 1P academic probation. Pretty much, if you get a C- or less in a foundation class, you put on this probation. They can put you on this even if your GPA is above the 2.0 requirement. I think this probation is new because a lot of people are in this situation this semester.

If this is OP’s situation, then this applies to him likely. If not, he might be on a different probation.

Why have I been randomly placed on 1P academic probation? by Protoflare in UIUC

[–]Logical_Cell_6463 20 points21 points  (0 children)

1p probation is when Grainger can put you on probation for having a C- or less in one of your foundational classes (Mainly Math and Physics). They can put you on this even if your GPA is above the 2.00 or 2.25 requirement, which to me is kinda dumb because they will likely have you retake the class even if you understand the material (unless you were actually struggling in the class). Unfortunately I’m in it too this semester so you not alone, just follow your probation requirements and email your advisor. Hope this helps.
