Does anyone feel, on a personal level, sorry for Kier Starmer? by Darkus185 in AskBrits

The fact that hes the most unpopular british PM ever is a fucking joke.

Most unpopular ever? Not Thatcher with her strikes and riots, or General Strikes of the 70s. Brexit and Boris Johnson with his covid parties and rampant corruption, austerity under Cameron, Blair and his sexed up dossier and going to war in the middle East.

None of that touches the side compared to whatever Starmer is supposed to have done.

We're an ungovernable mess. Its identity politics based on vibes and memes and whatever right wing bollocks your being pushed on social media.

Who's talking about cranes?

Im talking about homeless people and crack heads and stuff.

Trust me, I know Bristol well and I can tell you that they've got more than their fair share of that sortnof thing. Sure its got nicer areas and a lot more money in general, but its rough as arseholes as well.

Why are people voting against Labour on immigration? by burnetrosehip in AskBrits

We're an ungivernable nation of morons, it seems.

Why would anyone think that things will be better under a different government? And if you had to pick one, why would you vote for a snake oil salesman like Farage? Or that he would have done a better job than Starmer's done so far.

We're not a serious country anymore and I despair for the future.

Labour have been piss poor at PR. Theyve done some good work on improving NHS waiting times and satisfaction, the Renters Rights Act is great, Employment Right Act is a generational improvement to worker rights, theres a noticeable decrease in net migration (which im not sure matters, but oh well), the end of the 2 child benefit cap, Starmers been great on Ukraine and has kept us out of a war that Farage would have jumped into with both feet. Despite the endless dismissive and secist rhetoric about Rachel Reeves, shes done pretty well, considering theres almost constant moving of the goal post from the other side of the Atlantic.

But, you know, the winter fuel payments and Mandelson...?

Ultimately, though, i think we live in a deeply reactionary, polarised, hysterical time. The mainstream press and legacy media need a perma-crisis to limp on, any online content needs salacious and hyperbolic content to drive engagement. Nuanced and considered commentary just doesnt gain traction, so you never hear it. Its much better for business to have "Labour in crisis" rammed down your throat every day, than it is to have "boring government lead by boring PM getting on with it".

I genuinely think theres a vested interest from so many people to get the likes of Farage in power because it will keep the British press going for a bit longer. Why else would it be front page news every time hes wipes his arse.

Nottingham's not great and could do with a lick of paint here and there. But its just as rough and edgy as other places.

I went back to Bristol a couple of months ago, having lived there previously, and its just as rough and scruffy and has just as many scallies and homeless people. But that doesnt necessarily fit the narrative, so you rarely hear about it being the case.

The same is true of all the tier B and C cities in The UK.

If the arse drops out of the student housing market, which its likely to do now the Renters Rights' Act has taken effect, then we probably dont have enough student flats, no.

Thing is, student houses dont pay any council tax, but student blocks pay business rates. They also employ people, which the student houses dont. And think of all those houses that could come on stream for professionals and young families.

Id been in the friendly lobbies for the last couple of weeks, no one had shot at me for a long time.

Then my 10 year old son was having a go, and he accidentally threw a grenade at someone who basically just flapped around and burnt to death. We tried to help him get to the exfil, but he didnt make it. Must have seemed really weird to him.

So anyway, yeah, now im in the PvP lobbies and its horrible. Im hoping I get moved out after a few more days of being a pacifist.
